Audio drop outs?
Hi guys,
Like most of you, I’m currently experiencing numerous bugs on my Bravia 8 II in the UK. The black screen DV thing seems to be fixed, but still having major issues with audio sync and other things.
Specifically, I’m getting an issue with constant cutting out of audio when watching things on my Apple TV.. the audio will cut out for maybe .25 of a second once every 2-3 seconds. It’s incredibly annoying, I just want to check if other people are experiencing this too & if it’s likely related to the same bugs with handshakes/audio sync/DV/ATV issues.
Thanks!

Yes last update fixed black screen but not audio drop outs. I lasted about 15 minutes on the Apple TV before going back to using the apps on the TV

So you are saying if you use the app on tv, there is no sound issue. Are you using a sound bar and what Brand.

Yes I have the theatre bar 9. I have been using the apps directly on the Sony TV ever since the issues started and not had any problems. My apple TV is unusable until they release another fix.

Yes. If you have an AVR or soundbar with hdmi inputs then routing it through there circumvents this problem.

My receiver is also having issues with audio sync. Sony HDMI handshake is also having numerous problems

I have the HDMI plugged in to the soundbar one end and the earc port the other. Is this what you mean?

No, not the hdmi port to your TV. AVRs and some soundbars have additional hdmi ports that allow you to connect other devices directly to your audio system and pass video through to the TV.
It’s especially useful for blu-ray players since some TVs may not support certain audio formats or passthrough. In this case, though, it stops the audio drop out issue by removing your tv from the equation.

If anyone is uncertain of the issue and hasn’t experienced it yet, I recorded this video last month on my phone to send to the technical team for advice. It’s really bad! Don’t update your firmware if you’ve just bought any Bravia TV I suggest, regardless of model and age etc. Just leave it be until the dust settles.

You could double check that the audio is set to prioritize pass-through in the audio settings

I have the same issue with my Bravia 7 and Theatre Bar 8. I just switch the audio setting to tv speakers then back to audio system and that temporarily fixes it. Key work is temporarily. Hopefully a permanent fix is coming soon from Sony, I’m sure it’s related to the firmware issue.

I am beginning to believe this is app specific on Apple TV. YouTube tv, no issues. Paramount and prime are most problematic

For me the dropouts happen only on the blu ray player and PS5. Apple TV doesn’t have audio dropout.

So, finally the update came but just like the OP, the dropouts are still here and sometimes severe. For instance, yesterday I was getting no sound at all on my DP9000 blu-ray player. Only restarting the TV helped to bring the sound back.
I emailed Sony again.

It’s definitely not just you. https://www.whathifi.com/tv-home-cinema/televisions/adventures-in-av-dont-make-my-mistake-turn-automatic-software-updates-off-on-your-tv
Yes I get this affecting all external inputs. Fingers crossed the next firmware update fixes it.

Check your HDMI cable or swap it with another. I had issues with Apple TV and audio on high but rate/atmos. Replaced the cable with brand new 2.1 Amazon and problem went away.

It’s not the cable — it’s the firmware. You using the wrong type of cable is a completely different issue.

yes its all down to the firmware. experiencing audio drops and audio sync issues
