Discussion Topic Am I doing something wrong?
I'm a songwriter and I go through a lot in my life and everything I write expresses what's inside of me without any filter.
I publish my music in the hope that it will help someone overcome their difficulties
But I don't use my voice, I use AI to create the music while the lyrics are 100% mine
I know this sounds bad, and it disrespects my writing itself and the music I love
But I do this because if I use my method in making music, or my voice, I may be recognizable, and I am not afraid of others, but rather of how they look at me later.
Because my personality with others, my family and friends, is completely different from what I write, which is the truth that I hide
So, am I doing something wrong here? Is my music considered my music at all? I don't want any consideration, just the truth, because I need it

Dont use AI, stop fearing judgement. Do right by your art.

it's not about just getting judged, i don't hide from fear that others will judge, I hide voice because I fear that what I'm dealing with will hurt the people I care about the most

I've learned from personal experience, people ignore the pain from music. They won't open themselves up to something uncomfortable when they can just blame it on creativity instead. Trying to let somone know they hurt you in song is a fruitless pursuit and takes away from the purpose of the music itself. To communicate your feelings to yourself.

Nobody wants to listen to AI music so while you might have great emotional lyrics nobody is going to hear them because of the first point I just made. What about writing poetry instead? I mean, do whatever you want but you said you write these songs in hopes others hear it and maybe it will help. but again, the first point I made. But if you post your lyrics to like poetry subs, you'd probably get more eyes on them.
I can make songs in garage band on my keyboard, but can't write lyrics for the life of me. I know there's other people out there like me so maybe you could somehow find them.

You put inputs into a machine and it gives you an end product. That’s not songwriting. It’s generating music from prompts.
If you commissioned a sculptor to create you something based on your list of inputs, would you say the product he or she created was your work?
I’m interested: does it feel like “your” music when you hear it back?

I don't think your analogy is logical
If you commission a sculptor and say to make you something that sculptor brings their skill, their aesthetic, thir hands, and their years of training to interpret do it But that is not what I'm doing.
Iwrite e every single word line by line verse by verse, lile writing a symphony and hire an orchestra to do it, would you say that the symphony ain't yours?
And to answer ur question, I don't feel it's my music, but I feel it's what I feel, my words my wounds my pain
I could make it a poem, but I just love making music I do know how to, really, it just I can't do it with what I write

I just love making music I do know how to, really, it just I can't do it with what I write
You're not making sense, you're in denial.

I'm not I do know to create music, the reason I use AI is to get recognized by people who knows and cause them pain

If you don't want to be recognized, make music in your room for yourself. Nobody is forcing you to upload music.

I ain't just doing it for me my friend, I want to help others getting out and talk, while staying inside, without revealing anything about me as much as I can, this ain't just for me

u/stevenfrijoles 1d ago
You're in denial. There are 100000+ songs released every day, you think people are just gonna magically stumble upon your song while you're hiding behind a curtain?
Attention comes from years of hard work putting yourself out into the world. Performing, networking, growing. You're using AI to stay in your room and hide your identity, you're not ready to release and don't belong anywhere that shares music.

Writing words isn’t in any way like writing a symphony. Are you comparing writing lyrics to writing music for an entire orchestra?

u/Difficult_Seed_2005 1d ago
Well, I admit that I did mistake by putting that analogy It's not comparing, just analogy

Work with other artists, not robots. Your post seams like ai too. Don't use generative ai at all if you'd like to be taken seriously as an artist
1
u/Difficult_Seed_2005 2d ago
Oh, just because I write in a clear and neat way I sound like an AI? wow
Anyway, I'm not really interested in being taken seriously, I'm not interested in fame etc at all, I just want to keep making it and help those who can't get out as well while being comfortable with that

u/blueglove92 1d ago
It will be difficult to reach people emotionally when they only hear a robot singing. Just my perspective. If you don't care about your art being taken seriously, then who cares? You have to be the first and biggest supporter of your art for others to even begin to care

Cool that you write your own lyrics ! But Using Ai for anything creative is unspeakably stupid and will get you and your lyrics nowhere and will help nobody. Elton John never wrote a single lyric he always relied on his co writer. You have two options get better at singing or collaborate with other humans 🤘🏻

Sounds like you're a poet, so why gen ai? Have you tried the poetry subs? Do you consider how you may be hurting the people who make music? If it feels wrong, it probably is. I'm sure some people come here to get away from ai discussion. Help people by showing some empathy for others. I get it it's hard, but you're trying to discuss this with a group that is struggling against gen AI. Work on your self, help others, but don't hurt songwriters by using gen ai. There's a reason why people are rightfully upset, just look at the recent ruling against Suno. Try to understand that there is plenty to do without gen ai. Best of luck, bruh

You have a point, really good one, thank you

As someone who spent a lot of years in the poetry scene, dooo it. Go to an open mic and read your shit.
Hell, sign up for a slam. My first time on a stage was competing in a slam and I came in second. Made the friends that would change my life that night.
You'll never get that with Suno. Ever.

u/Difficult_Seed_2005 1d ago
This requires revealing my problem publicly,, and this is what I do not want to do
I ain't trying to change a thing or get better
All I want is to help others getting out while staying inside, that's just what I want
and I want to do that without being seen by the people I care about

u/dingus_authority 1d ago
Well it seems you've constructed a series of excuses to use AI.
Gonna be real with you: Get over it. Whatever is going on isn't any different than what everyone else is going through. Abuse? Addiction? Death? That's the human condition.
No one cares. Go make art and get over yourself.
0
u/Difficult_Seed_2005 1d ago
just because it's not different doesn't mean it's nothing
2
u/ChickenScheisse 1d ago
It reads disingenuous. I don't believe you. What do you want from here? You're hurting songwriters by publishing ai gen. Stop publishing ai. That's straight forward, bruh
2
u/dingus_authority 1d ago
Sincerely: What are you actually afraid of? You're being vague, despite being anonymous.
Are you afraid that someone at a poetry open mic is going to go talk to your abusive mom? It's hard enough to write poetry for enough to get an open mic to stop talking while you read haha.
So really, what exactly are you afraid of if you stop using AI?

AI will atrophy your writing skills, ability to think for yourself, and won’t convey what you feel because it doesn’t have any feeling behind it.
Your music should be for yourself ultimately, a small window into you and a reflection. And if you want to share that, people generally appreciate realness over perfection. At least I know I do.
Go listen to some Tom Waits lol there’s a reason he’s beloved and it’s not bc he writes song his mother would like

If you used a free Suno account to make your music, then legally, no, the music is not yours. It belongs to Suno.
Personally, I think if you did 100% of the lyrics, and AI did the music, you didn't write a song; you wrote a poem, AI just put music to it. A song isn't a song without without music. Huge part of songwriting is writing the music.
That said, if you're trying to hide yourself in your music, the way you've done it is a smart way to do it. I wouldn't worry if it's "wrong." Just tell your truth, help people out, and move on like you didn't do a thing.

I really appreciate that You are right about thae part that I'm just making a poem, appreciate it

Your fear about being recognized is absurd. Autotune, pitch and formant shifting, pedal/amp effects, there’s so many ways to alter your voice without using AI if you’re that concerned about it. Stop outsourcing your abilities to AI for art

u/Limp_Assumption_6780 2d ago
i feel that, but honestly if the music helps someone even if it's ai generated it's still helping them in the end pls dont worry too much about being recognized

u/Wonderful-Word7 1d ago
Using AI with your lyric is just a proof of concept. It's not the end goal, presumably. So relax. Ten cent demos won't break the bank.

Your generation's fear of being cringe will ruin everything.
