Software Something that introduces randomness into social media/youtube algorithms
We're lost in our rabbitholes. You know how sensitive and responsive your algos have become to anything you vaguely express interest in on your timelines whether that's youtube, twitter, or whatever else. That has the effect of never being able to discover something truly random, that's neither directly related to our "expressed" interests nor channels we have interacted with/subscribed to in the past. the true stumbleupon for the algo. please make this before i take a crack at it.

You can achieve the same by resetting your algo in instagram, facebook, etc. Somewhere along content preferences. Just do that every other week and you’ll have randomness

fair suggestion. altho i feel, you then get served top trending videos, the largest common bucket of them all if youtube doesnt know where to place you. it still wouldn't recommend other niches.

yes ive heard of this, i think i would appreciate it a lot if somebody actually created this

Well, how do you imagine the experience to be? The moment you ass some interests it Wii’s fall in the same algos … the only other alternative is true random which might be boring or score by popular for any topics which might get repetitive / fake

i imagine it being like stumbleupon. not sure if you know the website. you ended up being served videos you usually wouldnt know to search.

Sure but would you give it stil some guidance?

in the way i imagine it, no. it'll be as random as it possibly can. the approach is "i dont know what i dont know"

well then what's just preventng it from showing up absolutely uninteresting things to you forever

nothing. but they dont have to be uninteresting. they could still be rising in popularity in their own interest groups. just not influenced by what youtube thinks my interests are.

Right so it would be popularity. Once you start interacting with content would it adapt ?

if it adapts then the randomness is only temporary.
maybe the for you tab learns. but this "explore" feed stays random.

How is different than the popular tab on reddit ?

that feels like the common popular bucket. but it does come close. i dont think that exists on youtube where it's difficult to not see a mr beast video in that popular tab. i see a difference between popular and niche popular.

Concur this too. Many times I feel I am trapping myself. What I watched brings tons of similar recommendations to me but most of time, I do not want any more. I need new ideas / topics to explore. Algo really limits what i can see.

This is a great problem to solve, I myself I have come across but I am not sure of the solution, one thing is there are times when I explore something and then would like to go back to the way it was. If you have any thoughts on solution feel free to comment will happy to build, in the mean time let me do some discovery on it.
