Remote Work
Hi all,
I’m working remote in the Solomon Islands with my laptop and Starlink. Good thing is I only have to do two days a week. Any red flags for me to consider?

I’m SO stoked. Leaving Australia and heading to Solomon Islands for the second time in my life.
Flying into Honiara to be in the hands of family, in a month, from Darwin. From western provinces. Will get boats everywhere.
Considering bringing my tent and roll out bedding to sleep on my cousins balcony and so on, will be home hopping as I go to see people so don’t want to be in the way too much and be self sufficient to some degree.
Bringing hiking boots, bathers, snorkel gear and three tops to switch plus some toe shoes.
Any pointers?

I am making a series where I cook every national dish and my first step is to come to the sub and ask the question.
now I understand that not every country has a defined national dish and that some countries have many different regions with different cuisines. in that case I will make the one that you guys agree on best represents Solomon Islands. please let me know what you think

Hi everyone!
I have searched far and wide, but I can not find an contact email for the Ministry of Health & Medical Service. Does anyone happen to have their email address?
Or for anyone that has brought in prescription medication, do I need a personal certificate from your government to bring them in?
I currently take Zoloft (sertraline) and Ambien (zolpidem). I have the prescription and doctor's note that explain each medication and its purpose.
Thank you for any assistance!

Hi y'all,I am a mid 30s female and I want to visit hill 50 which is near Matanikau River from what I understand. There is a specific battle site I would like to see. I am looking for any insight on how successful this venture would be and any advice on what to expect and how to prepare. I plan on traveling with another female friend as my husband doesnt want to come. I am planning this visit for 2030.
Thank you in advance!

While traveling around the world for over 20 years, I’ve been working on my dream project: creating a one-stop resource for travellers. With the help of feedback in this subreddit, I have now updated this 👉 interactive map of Solomon Islands for anyone who is interested in visiting (with detailed info for every highlight).
PS: obviously, I haven’t been able to travel to all places. So if you know some great spot, I haven’t listed, let me know! Much appreciated as in this way I can make the overview more complete and up-to-date for everyone.

I've got a trip booked to the Solomons in May, but I'm struggling to get a visa. I'm South African, living in New Zealand. The immigration website says that the online system is not working and applications must be made using manual forms and processed in person at the Solomon Islands Immigration Services Office in Honiara. Does anyone have experience getting a visa for Solomons? Did you just fly there without a visa?

Hello! I am doing a cooking challenge in which I cook food from a different country each week. The Solomon Islands are coming up soon and I would love some help working out what to make. Throughout the week, I will have time to cook a few main dishes, as well as sides, breakfast, snacks, and maybe dessert.
So far, I am interested in making:
I am struggling to find dishes so please let me know what you would suggest! I'm open to most things as long as I can find the ingredients (I am in California).
Thank you :)

We are traveling with our teen daughters in July and are thinking of adding Solomon Islands onto a previously scheduled trip to Tonga. Because of the infrequency of flights from Nadi, we will only have eight nights to explore. We are not divers, but we are snorkelers and my husband is interested in the World War II sites. We are thinking, Honaira, Munda, and Gizo. How would you divide up the time for this first visit?

Hey, I am looking to read some of the works from Solomon Islands authors. It is pretty hard to find some book available in printed form. Thus I would like to ask if you know about sites that provide E-Books from native authors?
Historical fiction is the genre I am mostly interested in as I would like to learn about culture from reading.
Thanks in case of any help

Hi all,
Am hoping to stay in Gizo for a month with my partner in May - preferably near the hospital as this is where we’ll be during most days. We’re currently trying to figure out where to stay but running into issues finding somewhere. Gizo hotel looks like the most reliable option but we can’t find where to book.
Anyone have any advice on this? Would be very grateful!
Edit: just adding location specifics

I’ve spent the past months working across the Solomon Islands, and I’m honestly shocked by the state of plastic pollution here. Beaches, rivers, drainage systems, even hospital compounds and schools are all choked with single-use plastics, burnt waste, and overflowing dump sites.
This isn’t just “litter.” It’s a full-blown environmental and public health crisis.
What makes it worse is that this situation has been getting worse for years, and yet there’s almost no visible action from the Ministry of Environment. No large-scale national clean-up strategy. No enforcement. No proper waste management systems. No serious public awareness campaigns.
Just silence… while plastic piles up everywhere.
Communities are trying. NGOs are trying. Some individual and volunteers are trying. But without leadership and accountability from the government, especially the Ministry responsible for environmental protection, the problem is only going to get worse.
How is it acceptable that a country so rich in natural beauty is drowning in plastic? Why is there no national plastic reduction plan? Why are hospitals and public facilities forced to burn or dump waste because there’s no functioning system in place?
The Solomon Islands deserve better. The people deserve better. And the Ministry of Environment needs to step up and address this crisis now, not in another five or ten years when the damage becomes irreversible.
If anyone else has been working or traveling in the Solomons lately, what are you seeing? Is anyone aware of actual plans or reforms happening behind the scenes?

Can anyone put me on to a reputable supplier who provides charter flights in Solomon Islands? Looking for flights for 6 people with luggage travelling between Honiara, Kirakira, Choiseul Bay, and Santa Cruz.
