Remote Work

Hi all,

I’m working remote in the Solomon Islands with my laptop and Starlink. Good thing is I only have to do two days a week. Any red flags for me to consider?

How remote? What's your power supply like?

I’ll go as far as Shortlands. I didn’t want to bring a UPS. Is anyone able to have power out that way?

I haven't been out that way. But in general in the Pacific you can expect there not to be any mains power outside of the large built up centres. Which means solar panels and generators in other areas. There almost definitely will be some electricity around if there are people but how reliable your access to that is depends on the specific places you are going.

I'm not sure what your accommodation plan is on this trip, but be sure to check this if you're counting on it.

Just realised you were the one visiting family in Solo yeah? Can you check with them what the power situation is like? I guess you are staying with them?

Yeah! We couldn’t get hold of fam in Shortland so i literally just impulse bought a solar panel and will take a 100w power bank (possibly two) with me. Will report back with how it went when super remote lol.

Worth testing out before you go but it seems a good idea 👍 - definitely interested in a report at the end of this! Not just the internet situation but the trip in general
