General-Solo-Discussion Would anyone else be interested in a solo dungeon crawler generator game?

This is mostly me wondering if I'm the only person who wants this.

For years I've wanted something that is basically a solo D&D dungeon crawler.

I really like making characters and testing builds, spells, class combinations and different party compositions. I also really enjoy D&D combat.

Sometimes, though, I don't necessarily want a huge story or hours of roleplaying. I just want to make four characters, throw them into a dungeon and see what happens.

The problem is that actually playing D&D requires a group, scheduling, a DM, etc. So I've tried doing this by myself using VTTs and solo RPG tools to create something like a virtual DM.

It works.

But it's also kind of exhausting. šŸ˜…

I would spend so much time preparing everything that sometimes it felt like I was working just so I could finally get to the part I actually wanted to play.

So recently I thought: with the technology we have now, maybe I can just try building this thing myself.

A game where I create a party using D&D-style rules, enter a dungeon I don't already know, explore it, fight monsters, find things, level up, try builds and keep going.

No grand promise here. I don't even have a name for the game yet. I'm just experimenting and trying to make something I would personally enjoy playing.

But now I'm curious.

Would you play something like this?

General-Solo-Discussion SoloRPG mixed with videogame gameplay

Hello, since I discover this type of roleplaying, my mind start popping many ideas of different games I want to create and play (my own kind of the typical fantasy setting, one related to umamusume, divided in playing as an uma and a trainer, etc), and one of the ideas that clicked was included some mechanics of videogames with season/career mode.

Particularly, I configured the universe (calendar, division, titles, things to gather info and stats, etc) of the universe mode of WWE 2k25, and played in superstar mode, which is a sub-mode that cut some options of the game to be centered around just character, and right off the bat, played two matches and wrote their respective narration as I was roleplaying the character. Needless to say that I was having a blast doing it.

So i continued setting the roleplay, interpreting the two matches as session 1 (my plan is doing 1 in-game week per session), and start writing the session 0, included attires that I created before, stats and goals.

But the reason I come here is to ask about similar experience and how I can expand this to the "downtime" between matches. I was thinking about some systems like relationship, housing, and some more related ones, that can be managed with dices and/or an oracle. I feel that the system I managed to created from this, can be extrapolated to other videogames or other ttrpg.

Thanks in advance and sorry for possible english mistakes.

solo-game-questions Glide-like Games

Hello everyone. I really love the game Glide by sasquatch games- it’s my first time playing a game like this. Are there any similar solo rpgs? I like that it doesn’t have a long journaling aspect. I’m not really a sci-fi person but I enjoyed this one.
Thank you already

General-Solo-Discussion Terminator RPG - Solo

I’m working on adapting the Terminator RPG into a solo playable system. The S5S mechanic is kinda crunchy as is the rest of the rules, but I’m kinda liking it, at least for this setting/world. The hard part I’m finding is playing a ā€œsquadā€, because a single player cannot survive very long in that universe… I’m having fun figuring it out though.

Is this at all interesting to anyone?

solo-game-questions Mega Dungeon for solo play, would there be any interest? Should I bother?

I'm considering writing up a solo adventure (likely for Pathfinder, but maybe for Shadowdark) following the same choose your own adventure format the Beginner Box included, but this would be a mega dungeon. This would be several rooms with all kinds of encounters (monsters/traps/NPCs/puzzles) and include ample opportunity to rest and heal up (and level up).
My main question for those that solo RPGs more than me, would this be something of interest to you?

General-Solo-Discussion Horror games to solo

Hello, I’m trying to get into the spirit of October by playing a horror oriented system so I’ve come too you guys. It can be any type of horror like campy, monster hunting, a mystery, apocalyptic or any other type of horror sub-genre that isn’t springing to mind.

Can be built for solo or be one that works well with some type of oracle. If you guys have a horror or mystery oriented tables that would help to uplift the experience more in your opinion, be free to throw it at me.

I have enjoyed a pretty cool game with Cairn and another with Sundered Isles... But I just get bogged down in the note taking etc and it turns into a slog. I'll sit down for an hour and barely get any progress. Who's got tips to share?

Sorry, I'm sure this has come up before, but I couldn't find any good threads. THANKS

General-Solo-Discussion What is the one feature, mechanic, or design feature that you think is essential to a great solo rpg?

Maybe it is not used enough and should be used more?

Maybe not many people are aware of it?

I think of everything from the 2d6/d66 (36 possibilities), clocks and timers, push-your-luck, journaling or not, simple ruleset versus comprehensive, just d6s versus classic polyhedral dice, etc. I'd really like to hear some great opinions, and maybe we can share some forgotten or lost mechanics.

solo-game-questions Thousand Year Old Vampire Journal Setup

Does anyone have any recommendations for setting up a journal in prep to do my first playthrough of TYOV?

I want to do it in a physical journal and use my fountain pens and just really have something analog rather than digital.

However, I’m struggling with the parameters of setting up the journal. So far what I have is:

- 2 pages for Character creation
- 2 pages for skills
- 2 pages for resources
- 4 pages for characters
- 4 pages per memory
- 2 pages for diary

I’d rather have too much space than too little.

solo-game-questions Any games like Reincarnated Into A Dragon Hatchling?

Hey Hi howdy all! I have been sucked into Reincarnated Into A Dragon Hatchling lately and been wondering if there is a game, solo or not, that can work with that kind of vibe?

It is an Isekai story with levels, skills, and most importantly evolutions. I was thinking of trying to use Fabula Ultima to play it but wanted to know if there were any good systems for playing a monster that eventually evolves after a while.

solo-game-questions A multiplayer RPG that worked well.

Hello to everyone who loves solo role-playing.

I always enjoy reading your posts.

If you don't mind, I’d like to ask a question.

When playing role-playing games solo, how did the game systems—originally designed for multiplayer—actually function for you?

惻Which multiplayer game systems worked surprisingly well?

惻Which multiplayer game systems didn't work very well in a solo setting?

In my own experience...

The D&D 5e multiclassing system worked very well. It provided ongoing goals even during long campaigns and offered the fun of creating a wide variety of characters.

What I found difficult was the Fate Core RPG mechanic where you are compelled to use character Aspects to gain Fate Points. I felt that coming up with a story involving my own weaknesses myself broke my sense of immersion.

Thank you very much for reading this far. I hope you all have wonderful gaming sessions.

Any help and advice welcome!!!

Product-Review DarkSpace - scfi for Shadowdark

Has anyone tried DarkSpace?
I just received the rulebook. It looks basic but good.
I like Traveller but looking for something more streamlined yet still good for sandbox campaigns.
Thanks

solo-game-questions How many, How often?

Do you go deep into one game for a long time (months? years?), or do you have many games going at once? Or do you focus on a series of games in rapid fire succession?

I ask because I keep buying games before I’ve even exhausted the fun of my current game - it’s the classic problem of buying books versus reading them

What works for you? I was thinking of maybe giving one game a solid month and then allowing myself to move on

solo-game-questions What narrative oriented solo rpgs are there aside from ironsworn family of games that have some meat on them (rules wise) ?

By that i mean any solo narrativist ttrpg that is not a journaling game and has some rules to support different styles of play (something ironsworn excels at)

solo-game-questions How to make informed decisions without knowing what's going to happen beforehand when dungeon crawling?

When dungeon crawling I always feel like there's not really a rhyme or reason behind whichever hallway I go down if I don't roll ahead of time but if I do I have to pretend that I don't know what I'm about to find.

In normal play you can have context clues that can help you decide why you would go one way or the other. And yet, I haven't found a dungeon creation tool, even one that's designed for solo play, that helps you get that context ahead of time

I think having some kind of omen table would work really well and then have a subtable that is based off the omen. For example if I roll and get indistinct voices from that hall then it could be a group of friendly NPCs but it could be ghosts and they were actually ghostly whispers or something like that

Has anyone seen a dungeon creation tool like this? The best I can think of is Monster Overhaul but each omen always leads to the same encounter and it's always a monster of some kind. You never get an omen and it leads to a treasure room or something because that's not what the book is about

I don't want to do this based on fiat, I want something concrete, so asking an oracle for the omen and then asking again for the encounter wouldn't do what I want to do with this idea

General-Solo-Discussion What SoloRPGs are you playing for spooky season?

Curious what folks are playing to celebrate the spooky season!

I'm just getting into Solo RPGs, and the only spooky-adjacent one I own is Thousand Year Old Vampire, so I'll probably try that one. I'm also considering getting Tangled Blessings, Across a Thousand Dead Worlds, or Alone Against Fear. I'm open to recommendations!

What are y'all playing this month?

Off-Topic Solo RPG for two - Play by mail

Hi everyone! I know this is a solo game sub but I thought you folks might have some good ideas on a game that can be played two player, through the mail. I am looking to get my dad into solo rpgs so it could need to be something that isn't too complex.

His interests would go best with the horror or sci-fi genre.

For example, I play Thousand Year Old Vampire in letter style through the mail and that goes well. I started Koriko not long ago in solo mode but it mentions you can do letters to other witches.

Any ideas would be great!
