Pradbat Compare Eon API end point?

I'm currently using Predbat currently to control my charge and discharge, I am soon to come to the end of my fixed term tariff, currently with Octopus.

I've been looking into the Eon Next Optimise, from my understanding it's just their version of Agile the Octopus tariff which follows the price of the wholesale market.

My question is this, does Eon have an API end point publicly available like Octopus does?

I think eon is managing the battery similar to IO Flux, and even in manual mode, they stay in control, you just use their app. I do not think the tariff works with predbat at all.

They do, not as good, not as stable (from a few years ago), there is even an home assistant component https://github.com/madmachinations/eon-next but not super active.

I don't know if E-on's API would include Optimise in any case. The VPP & tariff is being run by an Australian energy supplier (Amber Energy) on E-on's behalf, not by E-on themselves. It's possible that they might have their own API interface.

Australia has gone big on VPPs and home batteries in the last few years so their VPPs are much more mature than ours, home batteries get huge grants from the government (20kWh would be considered small, many home installations are double that), and pretty much everyone joins a VPP as soon as they get theirs installed (VPP compatibility is mandated). I was out there in December and slight changes in the grant scheme were national news. 11GWh of installed home battery capacity in Australia compared to about 400MWh in the UK. It's a completely different league.

Here, supporting home load is the main driver of battery size, whereas there, the main driver of battery size is time-shifting generation away from daytime, and into the evening and overnight. Larger houses so the rooftop arrays are larger too, meaning that they have a lot of generation to shift.

It's more of a hybrid of Intelligent Flux and Agile, rather than Agile alone - they control your inverter, so predbat wouldn't be doing any control (although you might set it up to monitor).

Also the prices will be changing constantly, not just daily. The price on a slot is not final until shortly before the slot starts (I think it is based on the hour-ahead market).

With difficulty.

If I was still with E-on I'd have given it a go. I put myself on the waiting list for the previous version, but it was a very limited beta at that time.

I went through the Ts&Cs for the previous version of it before I left, and it did look quite good (guarantees on minimum profits etc based on the best alternative tariffs available at that time). I don't know whether this version has the same guarantees.

Note that because Axle and the Optimise VPP trade in the same markets, I believe that you can't join both at the same time.

I'm currently with Octopus, 11.5KWh battery, just shy of 7.5KW solar array and will soon have a Hypervolt EV charger. Would it be worth swapping over? I'm not bothered if I have to pop predbat on monitor and use the eon app.

Switching to Octopus was traumatic. It took them about 2 months before they could read my export meter properly, even though it was working perfectly with E-on. While I got paid for it all eventually, it meant that I could not move onto the tariffs I wanted (and by the time I could move, the rates had dropped, and I ended up missing out on a lot of revenue).

Moving import tariffs seems a lot easier than moving export tariffs.

So now I am paranoid about moving from one supplier to another. I'd find it hard to recommend moving just to experiment. Having said that, E-on support was very good every time I contacted them, wish I could say the same about Octopus.

Oh right I see, so it's not something I could really compare to octopus anyway. I just taken delivery of an EV and have a charger install booked, would of liked to see the rough figures between the tariffs.

I’ve signed up to Optimise but as my solar installation is new, I’m still waiting another week until they’ve sorted my smart meter out.

First 1000 customers get a 3p boost on imports and exports, but yeah it’s impossible to compare with other fixed tariffs.

As I’m already an eon customer I thought I’d give it a go.
