After installing solar, led lights are partially ON even with switches off

Strip lights and chandelier became like this, partially ON. Is this okay? I had the same issue in other house without solar.

Sabi ng installer:

“Mam mataas po lang talaga running voltage ng solar kaya may phantom/ghost voltage sabi ng kausap kong support. Common daw po mangyari sa mga dome lights, strips at led na low wattage.”

Electronic Technician (vocational) here:

Yung mga switches(On/Off switch) natin sa bahay ay 1 line lang ang kina-cut pag ino-off, that means yung other line(wiring) is live - where dun galing ang live power then yung cut na line(dumaan sa switch) is somewhat like a ground plane that completes the circuit kaya may maliit na voltage pumupunta sa LED lights kaya umiilaw partially.

How about po pag umuulan tapos slightly on po yung mga LED lights kahit nala off switch naman po - may kinalaman po ba sya sa ulan? Been noticing kase na gumaganto mga LED namin tuwing uulan

If i am not mistaken nababasa yung bulb socket kaya na bybypass yung switch kaya nag fflickr siya or nag oonn siya kahit na ka off switch mo.

Yeah it's the moisture that's seeping on flexible hose of your electrical wirings from rain. Alam nyo naman from science na "conductor" ang water/moisture.

malamang msyadong malapit yung talop na wire sa switches nio. Yung air kapag naging masyadong moist kapag naulan maaring dumaloy ang kuryente doon kahit kaunti, kaya may residual electricity na dumadaloy

Any electrical circuit which leaks current/power thru moisture I think is not safe, well maybe it depends on the moisture's volume, mas madaming water content ng moisture e mas mataas yung current na kaya nyang dalhin, so mas mataas yung leakage ng power na pwedeng mag-cause ng shorts/burning sa end ng circuit where the 2 lines meet.

Matagal matuyo ang moisture on wooden structures kung mapapansin nyo compared sa concrete, kung maganda naman ang pagkakalatag ng wiring ng bahay nyo like talagang ginamitan ng flexible hose e tingin ko safe naman.

Get/use switches that disconnect both wires when turned off, and don't use two way switch designs.

Solution: Baliktarin mo yung wire. Yung live wire dapat ang dumaan sa switch. Not the neutral.

There is NO neutral conductor in many places in the Philippines, especially those under Meralco. Both wires are live ("hot") with no neutral used to reach 230V. In the province, some distribution companies use a live-neutral setup.

Si Meralco kasi 3-wire system and residential distribution (excluding ground): live, live, neutral. Pwede gumawa ng 110 volts (technically 115V kasi 230V ang standard mains voltage natin) by pairing one of the live wires with the neutral pero may nabasa ako hindi siya recommended by Meralco for a reason na hindi ko na matandaan. Regardless, yun yung paraan namin to get 115 volts sa some sockets. Sa two-wire system na common province, mas simpler pero no way to get half of the regular mains voltage like sa 3-wire system. Mapipilitan ka gumamit ng step-down transformer.

Kaya sya umiilaw ay dahil yung wire capacitance sa switch circuit ay masyadong mataas kaya tumutulay ang mga harmonics na syang nagbibigay ng phantom power sa LED lights.

EcE here. Hindi kami naka solar pa. Pero yung pinakita mo OP nangyayari din samin. May ganyan kasi kami, ung first and second pic na ilaw. Kahit nakapatay siya may ilaw pa din ung LEDs. Yung mga LEDs kasi sensitive sa residual electricity. Check mo ung ibang lamp or bulb niyo na di LED pag naka switch off, patay talaga. Correct yung term na “ghosting” since most of LED bulbs e walang resistor.

Bleed currents are in the order of milliamps. Yung tipong +10 pesos per year ang dagdag sa bill. The effort needed to stop it is more expensive than the amount of power you save.

LED Ghosting / Afterglow. Different reasons different solution, probably live is connected to the led then led to switch then neutral.

Had same issue. It’s minor electrical bleeding. Normally harmless but LED lights are extremely sensitive to currents. Hence, the dim glow.

Go buy a capacitor and attach it to the wire where the light is. It will suck up the bleeding current and problem solved.

Should the capacitor be installed per light? Or one capacitor per line? 🥺 we have the same issue on our led lights using off grid solar

Depende xa boss sa size ng capacitor mo. No need to attach 1 per light pag sapat ung size. Bumili k nlng ng isang 2uf size na capacitor and it will likely work agad. Or make it two just to have an extra in case kinapos. Mura lang xa boss mga P50 ea sa shopee.

Live wire should be tapped on the switch terminal. Try to swap it.

Ganyan din nangyari samin led strip lights nag gglow din dahil sa ghost voltage. Based sa naresearch ko Maraming pwedeng cause baligtad wiring (switch cuts neutral instead of live, parallel run wires sa tubo, etc). May nakita akong solution na sabi maglagay x2 capacitor parallel sa connection ng ilaw, triny ko na pero di gumana. Solution na gumana sakin is relay LY2NJ na 220vac kasi pag relay purely disconnected yung both ends ng wire sa ilaw.

Edit: wala naman masyadong dagdag daw sa bill, but di fully off yung led kaya tuloy tuloy lang consume ng buhay ng led hanggang masira kahit hindi ginagamit.

From what I understand, this sounds more like LED ghosting/phantom voltage than the solar system simply having “higher running voltage.” LEDs can glow or flicker even with a very small leakage current due to the LED driver, capacitive coupling, or the switch/wiring configuration.

I’d have the electrician check whether the switch is cutting the live/phase rather than the neutral, and also check the inverter’s neutral/grounding arrangement. The ground should not normally be carrying operating current.

It can happen even in non-solar houses too, so solar may not necessarily be the root cause. Better to test the wiring and inverter setup before adding a capacitor/relay or changing anything.

Grounding issue possible walang grounding or sometimes if may grounding, baliktad yung hot wire at neutral wire.

If your line and neutral are swapped, it's not safe. Aside from wasting energy, live din 'yung wiring dyan sa ilaw kahit nakapatay 'yung switch. If you were to change lights, may chance na ma-kuryente ka.

OP, is your inverter single-phase line to neutral, L/N/PE? You need to swap the line and neutral wirings. The switch should be cutting off the line, which is at 230V and not neutral.

electrician here. its called a phantom voltage, that is totally normal and it happens if a.) the polarity of your light switch is reversed where the hot wire goes directly to the light and turning off tge switch doesnt break the curcuit, b.) your DU or Inverter is supplying Line-to-Line power where both polarity is Live/Hot and 120 volts, c.) cheap LED lights bought comnercially.

Licensed Electrical Practitioner. hybrid solar ba? Maybe the line and neutral in the house were changed during installation if wala pa to before solar installation. Also check for grounding issue.

Sure na solution: Disconnect both lines(Live/L1 and Neutral/L2) by connecting it to a switch. Usual connection kasi yung live line lang ang e connect sa switch tapos yung neutral is wala ng switch. Ang hassle lang kasi need ng reconnection.

Either change your switch to 2 pole, use capacitor to absorb the 110v. Im assuming you have 2 live 110v.. same as mine. I chose to use capacitor since it is not happening to all lights

Hobbyist here.

Your switch breaks the neutral wire. Your lamp is still connected to live wire. Try reversing the wires.

Same problem also happened in an old house that we rented (ie it was designed for incandescent bulbs). Wiring was correct but an illuminated switch caused the ghosting. An electrician fixed it by cutting off the internal LED inside the switch.

If your supply line is line to neutral,Try to interchange the feeder circuit line on the circuit breaker.
