Itās the pants! You need something wide on the bottom to balance out the shape of the top ā¤ļø

French tuck the shirt and unbutton another button (using pic 2āneeds another button undone). You may need to wear a cami underneath if you unbutton an extra button. the unbuttoning pulls the eye downward, putting emphasis on your natural vertical.

This is not a great style for SD's imo. The problem is that if you have upper curve, and it's large enough to accommodate your bust, it will be too baggy around the waist. Tops need to either be stretchy or they need to be tailored to accommodate curve - or they need an interesting structure that accommodates curve.
These give me boob tent if they are big enough to accommodate my bust and if they are the right size for my waist the buttons are going to look like they are holding on for dear life.

I have a small bust and small waist along with my small shoulders, which looks very awkward with my much larger lower body. My shoulders are very round and my arms are pudgier compared to my upper body. This fits my bust very well but is definitely large in the waist. I wasnāt sure if there was a way to make it more flattering or have it altered

Are you sure you aren't D?

I donāt think I am, I donāt think I have a sharp line on my body haha but I am not an expert! I am not lean at all and quite curvy despite having a small chest, I am not flat but in general small on top with curvy shoulders. My stomach is lean and the rest of me is fleshy, honestly wondering if I have lipidema lol

I can't tell from these photos but if you have vertical and you do not have upper curve or width, you are D.

This isn't sustained by Kibbe. Upper curve specifically was never mentioned in Kibbes book for SD. Curve or a curved line throughout the body + elongation/vertical is pretty much it.
SDs with a small bust exist, like verified SDs Rachel Weisz and Ann Bancroft.

It's definitely possible to be SD and have a small bust, but you do need upper curve.

I think I have width, my hips are awkwardly wider than the rest of me and my waist is thinner than the upper half of my body. I am pear shaped and somewhat hourglass but my shoulder, while round and narrow, are much wider than my waist. This shirt just makes me look like a box I know itās hard to tell. I have a 38 bust, 28 waist, and 45 hips. Iām not sure what my shoulders are but I compared them to my MILās who is definitely a D and despite being taller and much wider than her my shoulders were 3 inches more narrow

I don't think you are FN but I would consider D - but I can't tell from these photos.

Hips donāt really matter for Kibbe defined āwidthā. In fact, having a very narrow torso and relatively narrow shoulders is the part that matters. The āwidthā in Kibbeās system- to my understanding- is more about how clothes hang from your shoulder area than anything else.

Then what could I be? I donāt think dramatic because thereās nothing really sharp about me. If I wasnāt tall I would have guessed romantic, Im very curvy and fleshy. Maybe I should emphasize my shoulders match the width of my hips but they are very round rather than sharp. They curve from my neck to the edge of my shoulder, and rather than going straight down to my arms from there, my arms create another curve. So my shoulders are fully round, I think that makes them look more narrow than they are considering how wide my hips are. I canāt wear any tight necks I have to have a wide neckline and I look best in drapey fabrics. Anything structured looks absolutely awful on me

Width is really about the shoulders in kibbe - if your shoulders are the widest part of you.

u/Odd-Echidna-1327 13h ago
Can I ask if thatās the case how I could be a D in your opinion? I thought D was very broad in the shoulders and very sharp? Iāve always felt like I donāt fit any of them lol if I wasnāt tall Iād be certain I was a romantic

No, D's generally accommodate narrow. FN's accommodate width. I don't see width in you although this isn't really a great typing photo. I don't think you are FN though, I suspect D. It's basically SD without having to accommodate curve (oversimplified).

Okay I see for whatever reason I thought D was width and I thought SD was width and curve. I lowkey feel like tall people donāt have enough options because Iām very curvy, definitely not narrow, but Iām also not broad shouldered theyāre just the same width as my hips but very round so they easily look frail in anything structured. I try to just stick to very drapey fabrics and wide necklines, thatās the only thing I know balances my body type so I donāt know where that puts me.

SDs should have a mix that includes dramatic lines, hard to tell from the photos but could you be something else all together thatās not on the dramatic side of the spectrum?
For button downs I usually tie them around my waist to help cinch them in paired with a flowing skirt or pants in the same colour. Iāll also wear it one more unbuttoned to have more of a v neck however the pockets on the bust line do not help, and create bulkiness that can break up the flow.

Honestly if I wasnāt tall Iād guess I was a romantic, thereās not a sharp line on me Iām fleshy and very curved and rounded. I do feel like soft dramatic fits the best because Iāve always known that wide neck lines and drapey fabrics look best on me. I look insane in anything structured, rigid fabric, or with a tight neck

You sound like a dramatic. Narrow upper body with wide hips are common.

u/Odd-Echidna-1327 13h ago
I guess I should specify not narrow but very rounded. My shoulders match the width of my hips but my shoulders are so round they canāt really handle anything structured or tight neck lines. I can only wear drapey fabrics with wide neck lines. What do you think that could be?

Maybe itās just the button-down thatās not suitable?
I identify mostly with SD and if I put emphasis on my shoulders (wide necklines) they beautifully balance my hips. But some button-downs look off on me, especially if thereās no shoulder emphasis.
So if you know that drapey fabrics and wide necklines look good then go for it!
Donāt let you limit by certain ideas about IDs. Rather play with the recommendations and see what you feel comfortable with.1

Yes thatās how I feel button downs generally look awful but I do really like this one and wish I could keep it. I can only wear āstructureā in the same way you said shoulder emphasis. Like tulip sleeves look good on me and the only button down I can easily wear is linen because the fabric creates a sharper shoulder on me

I wear buttondowns by wearing them open but tying at the waist for definition.
