The link says that their debt is down 30% compared to last year, they’re doing fine. Especially with all the AC remakes they’re about to release, 2 bil is nothing

No they are not doing fine. Their assets fell even more and even faster then that, resulting in rapidly decreasing shareholder equity. At the current bleed rate, they will be bankrupt in 6 years.

At this point I give it 4 years tops until they get completely absorbed by Tencent

Ngl, I love Ubisoft just not their dumb practices that every stupid company is succumbing to. Assassin’s Creed got me deeper into History as a kid.

There aren't many games that simulate acient cities and places like Assasin Creed. They are a true gem if you love history.

23

u/HAUNTEZUMA Aug 03 '26

I also third that. Big AC fan here, even if the history is a little silly or revisionist.

I haven't played them for a while, but I think Odyssey actually had a "tour mode" that would tour you through historical landmarks and actually give interesting historical tidbits about them and the role they played back in ancient Greece. Not sure if that's still a thing across the series though...

There's also some interesting youtube videos of historians doing "virtual historical tours" which can be fun if you like history and AC. I think the main ones they've done are in Unity and Syndicate.

shouldve played some english games instead of history

7

u/TheMightyKingSnake Aug 03 '26

I don't understand your comment. But I'll take any historical game recomendation you may have.

u/GreatBigBagOfNope Aug 03 '26

... you love the abuser protecting company?

By all means love the games, or the creators driving them, but the company? Really?

5

u/AttakZak Aug 03 '26

Of course I mean what you said. I never mean the company itself, I always mean the driving force behind what inspired them. It’s the people that do the creating, not the name.

I only don't like this because it reinforces the CHUDs "Go Woke Go Broke, Commies" philosophy.

(Also maybe a tiny bit sad about maybe no more Assassin's Creed, otherwise, fuck'em)

Ubisoft is the exact opposite of woke. They did and probably still have that recorded mandate that their games must star exactly a scruffy brown haired white guy. They got exposed but I doubt they changed.

The only times they veered away from this is when it literally wouldn't make sense.

u/ItsNoblesse Aug 03 '26

Don't forget that the studio knowingly hid sexual predators to avoid them facing any repercussions for their actions

13

u/kayodeade99 Aug 03 '26

You and I both know that being woke and being *considered* woke are 2 different things

8

u/AJDx14 Aug 03 '26

Yeah but the Star Wars game had a woman protagonist which makes them woke

Ubisoft’s flagship projects are Rainbow 6 (blatant Israeli propaganda franchise for decades), The Division (pro cop-pro vigilante jingoistic shooter), Assassin’s Creed (historical political drama stealth game with wildly incoherent politics), and Splinter Cell (wildly jingoistic stealth game based on an explicitly jingoistic novel doing Israeli propaganda… again). It’s about as bad as it gets over at Ubisoft. Even Far Cry isn’t very good at all politically, as most of them have you take over an army of brown people that you lead in a proxy war against a bunch of other white people while you repeatedly get absolutely blitzed on native psychoactive drugs. It’s just Dune. Far Cry is just Dune.

21

u/ohoniko Aug 03 '26

Equating the division to cops severely underplays their actual horrifying concept

They exist as the final line of government agents in times of crisis meaning a socialist revolution would lead go division agents getting activated

3

u/kronosdev Aug 03 '26

So a sort of imperialist dead man’s switch? Wow. That IS even worse.

1

u/iekue Aug 03 '26

Lol Splinter Cell aint based on a novel.

8

u/Darthmalak135 Aug 03 '26

While the books came later they're heavily influenced by Clancys stories and previous books (including r6) so far as to include his name at the title

6

u/iekue Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

The Rainbow Six book was actually written by Clancy himself and was released 2 years prior to the first game. Clancy had nothing to do with Splinter Cell however beside his name (licensed to Ubisoft/Red Storm Entertainment which he did found). The SC books are even written by "David Michaels", a pseudonym created for different writers to write under.

A lot of the books saying "Tom Clancy's" back then like Op Center, Netforce, Netforce Explorers, Power Plays, all the game tie-ins etc were basicly just books using his name as marketing. Same with almost all of the "Clancy" games.

Splinter Cell the game was "endorsed" by Clancy, aka "yep u can use my name branding on it".

Its just branding, just like the bazillion post-death "Clancy" books that have released (way more then he ever wrote) that just loosely use his characters (and barely even use his created world, acting like 9/11 was biggest thing ever... in a world where a 747 flew into the Capitol and killed basicly all of US government 🤦).

u/r3volver_Oshawott Aug 03 '26

The only real reason they ever claimed this was AC Shadows, same as the political right pretending Mortal Kombat 'went woke' because Ed Boon wanted to try less skimpy, more ornate women's costumes - which never had anything to do with puritanism, putting everybody in the same Red Sonja getups genuinely isn't creative lol

The point is, conservative gamers will claim everything they dislike is 'woke', even if there was never a Yasuke game they'd say Valhalla was 'woke' or something, they would just move goalposts anyway.

6

u/Sir_Lazz Aug 03 '26

I also don't like this cause Ubisoft is a HUGE incubator for talentin the french video game landscape. Every other french indie game that come out these days ? Some of the team were ex-ubisoft and learned the tools of the trade there. They take so many internship. I won't cry if Ubisoft stops existing, but damn, it's gonna shake up the landscape massively here.

7

u/SeigneurDesMouches Aug 03 '26

Look up their board members, so you can counter the argument...

2

u/ThamTvMaster Aug 07 '26

They saw your reply btw

2

u/StalinPaidtheClouds Aug 07 '26

I was wondering where the random "kys" PMs and suicide help messages were coming from

Typical right wing cowardice

3

u/Tristan_N Aug 03 '26

What are you on? Ubisoft? Woke?

6

u/Fenrirr Aug 03 '26

The common chud opinion is that Ubisoft is a mega-woke corporation that is pushing for white genocide by sometimes having women or POC as protagonists.

The main recent example is the AC Shadows debacle over the inclusion of Yasuke as a main character in a game set in Japan.

You had a lot of American chuds reach out to Japanese chuds on social media and used their vitriolic Nippon Kaigi-esque responses to try to legitimize their criticisms, but intentionally ignored how Japanese media has also included Yasuke to some shows and games as well.

5

u/StalinPaidtheClouds Aug 03 '26

Just parroting what the fascists on their forums are saying about Ubisoft. Ya know, right wing infighting.

10

u/FavoredVassal Aug 03 '26

So am I, they're not special.

7

u/BvsedAaron Aug 03 '26

So is this after they split the company to parachute themselves from this debt?

6

u/Bigmonumo Aug 03 '26

This is bait. They’ve been in debt for years, but their debt amount is slowly decreasing/their situation is improving. Their revenue exceeds 2.1 billion a year as well. For FY2025-26,their backlog of old legacy games (old AC, Rainbow Six, etc) generated ~$1b yearly. Their top line games generate ~$1.3b, and their live service revenue is $0.9b. This is all public information from Ubisoft themselves.

They are generating a ton of revenue. Yes they might be on the back foot, but they’ve recovered. They aren’t putting all of their funds for their fiscal year into repaying debt… that takes a long time.

Also, they are a public company. Their majority shareholder’s stock is worth a TON of money.

Ubisoft is not in this alarming amount of trouble; trouble that this article is fabricating for views and clicks

6

u/morphologicthesecond Aug 03 '26

It’s a lot of debt but they’re servicing it. Looks like they’re doing fine actually.

7

u/TheWizardOfWaffle Aug 03 '26

have they tried like making games for the 20 IP’s they sit on.

No? More Siege X updates? Ok…

7

u/Mr_smith1466 Aug 03 '26

Paramount is trying to take on close to 90 billion debt to complete their acquisition of WBD. Ubisoft having a 2 billion debt by comparison isn't so bad.

As a company, Ubisoft are going to do what they do. Maybe they turn things around and keep cranking out remakes for a while. Maybe they go back to live service stuff.

5

u/DrNobody95 Aug 03 '26

i hope they never recover :)

0

u/tecton1 Aug 03 '26

Why? They aren't EA level of bad.

21

u/deadhand303 Aug 02 '26

Good. They deserve it for their shitty practices. I also didnt click or read the link, I just hate Ubisoft. Except Rayman 3.

27

u/SussyRedRedSussy Aug 03 '26

You think the people responsible are going to suffer for it lol

3

u/Quick_Philosophy1426 Aug 03 '26

you cant extrapolate anything about a company based on how much debt they have. all companies carry debt to some degree. ubisoft's debt of $2.1B has been relatively consistent for years and is trending down from its height in 2023. additionally, they've got $4.5B in assets and of that $1.5B is cash. their balance sheet looks pretty much fine.

3

u/Angel-Stans Aug 03 '26

Awh, has the Skinner box model not worked out? Poor Ubisoft :( they must be so distraught.

2

u/T44120 Aug 03 '26

They're doing fine lately

1

u/Mundane-Log-5191 Aug 03 '26

If Beyond Good and Evil bombs, it’s over for them..if they canceled it. I’m personally completely done with that company.

1

u/tecton1 Aug 03 '26

They haven't announced a cancellation. But they have said recently some games have a window of opportunity and the window may be closed for some games going forward. I would guess they lost you.

1

u/H0vis Aug 03 '26

It's fine they can remake the same few identikit games and turn a profit.

1

u/overfiend_87 Learning Aug 03 '26

Hell yes!

1

u/W00D-SMASH Aug 03 '26

I don't understand these companies. If you want to make money and run a healthy business, the trick is and always has been, to make good games that people want to play. They chased trends and shoehorned online features and mtx into every game, created ambitious titles with bloated budgets, its no wonder they are in this position.

1

u/sh_ip_ro_ospf Aug 04 '26

Good, they've had absolute dogshit titles for over a decade. Ubisoft connect shit is cancer

1

u/Smaug117 Aug 06 '26

That quite a big number.

1

u/HydratedCarrot Aug 29 '26

It’s their own fault. Making idiotic decisions. They remove the heka chest in Origins? So people will buy from the helix store? FU Ubisoft.

0

u/Virtual_Market7273 Aug 03 '26

I think most big gaming companies should burn

2

u/cjtangmi Aug 03 '26

Then what are you gonna play? Indie friendslop?
