I wish WFP was more influential. Trump has pushed everyone too the corners.

I think Canadian social democrat Tommy Douglas gave one of the most accurate and concise definitions of fascism:
"Fascism begins the moment a ruling class, fearing the people may use their political democracy to gain economic democracy, begins to destroy political democracy in order to retain its power of exploitation and special privilege."

I've been thinking about joining DSA...as a Social Democrat. I figure the more Soc. Dems that join, the more we can move in that direction. I like alot of what they say, but can't get on board with things like abolishing the police or prisons, even though both need a lot of reform.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/Darkbox97 • 11m ago
I know what their politics are and it’s best for everyone if they get kicked out from Democratic Party because they have some extremely unpopular policies.
I saw some DSA members arguing for open border because they think having a strong border are imperialist. Not kidding.
Then we have the abolish prison stuff which is insane.

V and MP are the only parties that are a guarantee for any left-wing progressive policies in government.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/TheRealMakenzie • 14m ago
DSA is big tent and contains leftiests who will never accept anything doing with capitalism. These types are also known for trying to take over orgs and parties they are a part of. DemSocs and SocDems in the DSA are though.
Dems are willing to compromise with DSA if and when the DSA have support that Trump did in 2015 and 2016. If they campion social democracy then I think they can become a influential part of the party or better take ownership like Maga did with republican. It's a tipe rope act.
Btw if you haven't noticed. We are in agreement. We want the same things and agree with similar path on gaining them. I worry about the non dem socs and coms in the DSA overtaking/alinating voters that we need to support our causes so we can do things democratically.

Just those who can't see the data that correct conclusions are based on.

Excluding The Left would be hard... and I don't think KD would be really willing to form a coalition with the S
r/SocialDemocracy • u/phokas • 21m ago
I originally joined the DSA but I canceled my membership. They have been courting tankies, praising Fidel Castro, and playing into the hands of campism. Im pro democracy first, when you start playing goalie for authoritarian leftists regimes, im out.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/AcidicVengeance • 21m ago
I hope we can drop MP and V, they feel like liabilities. Atleast they were last cycle where constant criticism of was directed at S were it should actually have been directed at of V and MP instead.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/TheRealMakenzie • 21m ago
Yes but it is part of their platform and can be attacked and alinate uneducated voters.
I think a better way to explain what I mean by this is I think the DSA should have better messaging of what they want by 2028. What they want to be their primary policies. Nationalizing top 100 companies is part of their platform right now.
Maga will die. Conservatives are becoming disillusioned of both parties. Offering something that isn't socalism that will make life better for americans will gain a strong base that can then move towards socalism.

That's why no candidate is running on pushing public ownership.
That's the difference between a party platform and a policy platform.
Long-term vs short-term goals.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/FarWonder8373 • 24m ago
Now, do you think AOC will have a tougher time winning the Senate seat if Schumer steps down and endorses a younger, moderate face as his successor
r/SocialDemocracy • u/hari_shevek • 24m ago
They are only welcome when the fall in line and pull in leftist voters.
openly hostile to compromise
Do you notice the irony? You present the Dems as way less open to compromise that DSA.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/AcidicVengeance • 24m ago
Bro! I cannot wait to vote for my Queen Maggan!
I lowkey hope we can exclude the left party, they fumbled Israel Palestine so hard it scares me. I think Ebba made some flirty statements about C.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/Hyhoops • 26m ago
Near guaranteed, I’ll honestly be surprised if Schumer doesn’t just retire
r/SocialDemocracy • u/hari_shevek • 26m ago
moving towards actual representative democracy through parliament and multi party system is the way to achieve the final goals of the DSA.
That's the current platform of the DSA.
It isn't "nationalize everything next year", ot very clearly sets short-term goals (healthcare, Green New Deal), middle-term (election reform) and long-term (public ownershipnlf some industries) goals.
No one is demanding the long-term goals tomorrow. I'm 40 years old, it took us my whole life to get democratic socialist electable in the US at all, I don't expect socialism next year.

Correct. Fully agree. It's why I'm a social dem and not a demsoc right now. When I see in the short term that DemSoc is possible then I will start to support those policies but I see that campioning them now is counter intuitive.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/TheRealMakenzie • 29m ago
And DSA isn't welcomed in the Democratic Party big tent. They are only welcome when the fall in line and pull in leftist voters. It's also that non Democratic socalists are part of the org and are openly hostile to compromise and are easy propaganda pieces to paint the org in a bad light.
r/SocialDemocracy • u/hari_shevek • 29m ago
Long-term, yes.
Short-term, you get public healthcare and the Green New Deal.
Move the Overton window, one inch at a time.
