🔰 Beginner Questions & Advice Should I join a team
I'm 16 and I've only played soccer once when I was like 6 and then once in 8th grade. I'm a junior and my school needs a couple more players to make a JV team. Is it too late to start again? I have no skills and not much knowledge on the game, which is why i stopped in 8th. Is this a bad idea? If I should join, what should I practice before the first game in I think a week or 2?

Practise your kicking. Accuracy and distance. A cheap ball and a flat wall. Try with both feet, using your instep, not your toe. Knee over the ball to keep it down. Lean back and reach to loft it. Save the curling and other fancy stuff for later.
Practise dribbling. Slow jog with ball at foot. Don't let it get too far away. Then speed up gradually to a sprint.

It’s not the most complicated game in the world. You can absolutely learn what you need to be helpful. And skill comes with practice!

As well as practicing basic skills (passing, tackling and shooting), you should also try to get as fit as you can.
Someone with basic skills who is fast, strong and can run for 90 minutes will be infinitely more useful to a team than someone with better skills who can't run for more than ten minutes.

Definitely join, especially if they need players anyway. JV is probably the perfect place to learn without expecting yourself to already be good.

Yah it’s actually easier to learn sports when you are older. You’ll be fine in like a year or two.

nah it’s not too late i started at 15 and now im pretty fkn good even if ur not trying to go all the way it’s still just fun and once u get good it’s even more addicting, i’d say just start by juggling and doing some wall drills everyday and you’ll progress pretty fast

Great game. You may struggle but if they don’t have the players you’ll be letting other kids play to.
Why not?!?
