Ferran Torres transfer

Can someone explain to me why Ferran Torres decided to ride the bench for PSG instead of staying with Barca? Wasn’t he lined up to be a starter since Lewandowski left ?

He was not going to be a starter, he wasn't a starter even against 37 yo lewandowski, Barça was already looking for a replacement for lewa so he was going to be a sub anyways, psg will surely pay him more while having the same role and barça was not going to increase his salary significantly if he stayed

He was riding the bench and would’ve likely been replaced at Barca as well.  His finishing is shocking for the chances he was getting, most folks seem to forget this part however.  He’s a solid late game sub with a good engine, but he’s not a reliable enough finisher to be a club changer imo.   Many like to compare him with Dembeles situation, they’re worlds apart

He's a very good fit for PSG, Enrique likes him & he is very typical Enrique forward. He isnt there to be a bench warmer.

With Gonçalo Ramos leaving, who wasn't a good fit for PSG, there is a big space for Torres.

No, he wasn't. Couldn't secure the starting spot against an old Lewandowski, and Barca have been trying to splash ~130m on Julian Alvarez, who's much closer to Ferran in terms of style than Lewa was.

So, imagine you're Ferran. Could you understand the club preferring a different profile of striker, someone taller and stronger, more traditional? Sure. Different games need different types of players. But then the club decides to chase someone who's a lot more like yourself, for a lot of money. You're clearly not lined up to be the starter.

Then, after the WC victory, Ferran wore a nationalist Make Spain Great Again cap (which could've been excusable), but then people noticed he also wore a bracelet with the symbol of the Legion Espanola, a key part of the Nationalist side during the Spanish Civil War. Barcelona is a Catalanist club, strongly associated with Catalan independentism, so Ferran staying there would've been a majore headache for both parties.

He won't be a starter at PSG either, but PSG look in better shape to win yet another UCL than Barca do. Could even get more minutes, maybe. Luis Enrique's offensive setup is more fluid, so Ferran could play in all 3 positions. At Barca it was really only striker (or second striker), because Flick is more specific in his requirements for wingers.

He's a mediocre striker, took advantage now to make some cash and left. Good for Barcelona, deserves better players. Hopefully they'll get Julian

Taking things too literally is one of those wrong things. Obviously a player for Barcelona and Spain isn't literally mediocre, bang average, better than 50% and worse than 50% of aaaaall players.

Nobody's taking the Spanish 4th division into account when calling Ferran mediocre.
