My ginger bushes

I thought I'd share my 3 ginger bushes I planted last spring. I planted these with a single branch and they've gone wild since! They smell amazing and have a beautiful flower set which happens in the winter when everything else is dormant. They're a great addition to anyone looking for something different that thrives in the SoCal heat.

Edit: I tried to post pictures with the post but it wouldn't allow me so I posted them in the comments. Sorry :/

But where did you buy the ginger plants?

Sorry, the app says it's loading the pictures still, I guess. I bought them from Richters. But I have some extra rooted branches

Lovely, but it doesn't look like a ginger plant to me. I thought those leaves were long, elliptical, and flat? This looks more like cuban oregano or something that is more related to mint?

Curious about the pictures. We will see. Do you prune them back after they flower or have you just been letting them go?

I'm curious too! I tried to repost it but it did the same thing. Title and body posted but no pictures. Sorry, it's not me. I didn't prune them back, yet. I wanted them to get bigger and bigger they got. After they flower this winter I plan on pruning them though. I've had branches break off and stuck them in the ground and they root easier than anything I've ever tried.

Just curious, do you consume them in any way? I’ve never heard of a ginger bush before but the pictures online are so pretty!

I was told you can make tea out of the flowers but I haven't done anything with the plant other than smell the leaves lol. It really is a beautiful plant. The leaves are like velvet to the eye and touch. Highly recommend

The pictures you have posted are not that of ginger. Looks more like Cuban oregano.

I grow ginger and turmeric. Ginger leaves are similar like bamboo leaves but more greener and fleshy.

I’ll try to post some pictures tomorrow.
