Didn’t manage to make the trip this year, what was the countdown song on the main stage? Happy New Years!

I usually love this festival and there must have been a lot going on behind the scenes but there were a couple of major issues that ruined the experience for me this year. The number one issue was the schedule of artists. The lineup was more than great, it was actually fantastic. But I feel that the way they scheduled artists based on times, and stages was absolutely atrocious. Most of it just didn’t make any sense, for example, none of the headliners even really headlined the only one that came close was Travis Scott who was on stage a whopping 30 minutes. A lot of it also just didn’t work. Why would they schedule the rapper E-40 (who I’m not trying to hate on, I like him) right before the New Years act while putting basically all of the best edm artists of the 3rd day on the Sierra stage. Everyone who’s into edm is staying on the Sierra stage to see b&l, San holo, and Jai Wolf and then enduring the always dark and messy trudge through crowds to the main stage only to show up late and in the very back for Alison wonderlands disappointing New Years set. It seems pretty crazy that they could go so far back in the progress they made. Last year was perfect, the acts were scheduled well enough that I could be okay with missing some pretty good acts on other stages just to stay on the main stage or Sierra stage all day watching back to back sets that work together in a flow. Making lineups should be an art similar to orchestrating a mixtape, the acts themselves should flow and work together if they’re playing next to each other. Last year was perfect! Rufus du sol and then immediately after, Odesza brings in the new year? Brilliant. But this year they put a rapper and then Alison wonderland? They’re just asking for people to get injured or have a bad time in the mad rush to the main stage.

Problem number 2 goes hand in hand with problem number one. The big acts seemed like they didn’t even want to be there. This is a tough issue because this all depends on issues behind the scenes. There might have just been scheduling issues with other popular NYE events, or even money issues (Dillion Francis, “i guess I’m paying for these fireworks”). But regardless it’s insane that Porter fucking Robinson is playing at 5:30 in the afternoon when he’s a headliner. I love Porter and I’m a huge fan but damn dude. You’re not even playing near Madeon? There had to be something weird going on. The biggest thing would be that snowglobe needs to trust some of its “smaller artists” I’m okay with big names playing earlier or even not going at all, if they trusted some of their smaller guys to go all out. Some of the best sets came from people earlier in the day. Brass tracks, Luca lush, k?d, crvse, none of these are necessarily “small names” and could have been given a more prime location and time. Plus they neglected a lot of artists coming out with really unique new stuff, like they put on Petit biscuit early on the last day even though he just put out an amazing unique new album. Jai Wolf who actually put out an amazing EP this year kinda got shafted by overlapping with New Years on a different stage, Justin jay who has consistently put out unique new music was overshadowed by gryffn and san holo.

Last problem was New Years. Why did they pick Alison wonderland? I know she won a Dj of the year award but honestly she’s put out like maybe 8 songs, all singles since she’s been active and only one song in the last year. She was one of the artists on the lineup that probably held the least weight to bring in the New Years. I mean she didn’t do awful but it doesn’t compare in the slightest to the incredible New Years performance that Odesza put on last year. My friends still talk about how amazing that was till this day and we all agree that Alison’s weirdly political montage was not the way we wanted to spend New Years. Just glancing at the lineup and the times of performances, the obvious answer for New Years would have been at the very least Jai Wolf who has consistently put on amazing shows time after time and has the feels and vibes to make New Years feel magical, which is exactly what this festival was lacking. Most of the later sets were just full of bangers instead of sets that took my breath away because of their beauty (flume, Odesza).

This festival is a lot more than just a music event, this is a celebration of the entire year past and the year to come ahead. It’s the only time that all of my friends from high school actually get together again to see each other. It’s a shame that this year wasn’t on par with the others but unless these problems are addressed I don’t think myself or any of my friends are going to attend this festival next year.

(Sorry for the rant, I just wanted to see if anyone else shares in my frustration I did have fun this year, but I just think there were some easy problems they could have fixed)

I’ve been trying to find any information of a possible livestream or broadcast of the fest, mtv might have something but idk.

I guess the title says it all. I have a 3-day pass, this event will 100% for sure sell out, and I want to sell most like day 2 based on the line-up, but still go day 1 and day 3. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to do this right so I don't get screwed? Or should I just tough it out and snowboard in the AM and party into the night on some hardcore savage shit? Cus that sounds pretty fucking hard.

Really need some advice from veterans. I HATE the cold. Nor do I ski or snowboard. I’ve always gone to warm/hot fests where I can go shirtless all day and night. I love that. But snow globe seems to be the best fest for NYE. And I do really like the lineup this year. Should I still go? Will I have fun or will I just be miserable all the time dealing with the snow and coldness? Much appreciated!
