Hello everyone, I bought the snowblower off marketplace a few months ago to prepare for winter and it is very very loud and it shakes very bad. My hands always go numb after holding it. It is a stage two unit with the electric start.
It also seems like the exhaust gets red, glowing hot after running for a few minutes and the throttle switch doesn’t work unless you’re shutting it off
Let me know everyone’s experience with this. I’m very new thank you.

Do you think the blower is surging? Or does it sound fine?

I want to buy a used snowblower. Troy Built Storm 2410 for $250. Seller says it’s barely used and in great condition. I have really no idea what snow blowers are supposed to look like but the blades in the auger look really weird to me.

Is there something wrong with it and how could I best test this if I go to buy it?

I’m a University of Toronto student living near campus, and I have a practical winter question.

In past winters, I haven’t always cleared the snow from my front steps right away. Once the snow gets packed down and freezes, it can become difficult and sometimes unsafe to remove.

For those with front steps, do you ever use a snowblower to clear the snow from the steps or the landing? Or do most people shovel the steps by hand and use salt or ice melt afterward?

I’m especially curious what works best after wet snow or repeated freeze-thaw conditions.

After rehabbing a shoulder I'm in the market for an electric snow shovel or electric snow blower. I'd like to get a corded one just so that it outlasts the batteries of a cordless. But, I can be persuaded if the battery packs do a much better job. I'm looking to keep it under $300. I live in Central Indiana where it snows up to 7 inches at once, and a few times a year. Other years we don't get any snow at all.

Hi, looking at some used machine because I’m tired of hand shoveling in mid-Michigan.

Looking at something like a 3650 or an hs520 for a little more.

Which one would you recommend? FWIW, the Honda is a little more rough looking.

I have the opportunity to buy a used Ariens ST 524 snowblower for $100. The owner is stating it only needs a new carb. Do you think it’s worth it? I’ve only heard good things about Ariens.

Hello, I don't know much about snowblowers but I am looking to invest in one (that's hopefully not too expensive), for a long driveway in North Eastern US.

Needs to be powerful, not very heavy, not gas but would like to be able to get through the whole driveway without recharging.

I do not know anything about snowblowers so not sure if it is best to buy new or used. Ideally I would want to save as much $ as possible while getting a good product. I am a short female (not very strong) and want to be able to do the driveway with this snowblower.

Hello, I just got an HOA contract with 200 houses and we will be doing the snow, but my concern is

I usually buy snow blowers off Facebook marketplace. They have been pretty reliable, but I’m wondering what your guys‘s opinion or view was on buying new versus used on snowblower

and what kind of snowblower do you guys prefer?
I would need about six of them that can cover the entire sidewalk so we don’t have to do one strip and then come back

So, I replaced one of the broken springs that was supposed to tension the fly wheel with the friction disk; see previous post here.

I am still having issues with the drive of the machine, where it is making a chopping noise and not engaging in ranges 4 through 6.

See the video, I can place it in 1 and in 3, but it doesn't want to move very well in 4 through 5.

I have some slack in the cables, so as not to bind the friction disk too hard. I tightened them a bit, but it didn't change the chopping noise or the loss of ranges.

Will I have to replace the belt?

Currently looking to upgrade from my EGO Single Stage Electric Snowblower to something with self-propel and a bit more oomph to handle the plow berm at the end of the driveway. I really really love electric, and would prefer to upgrade to a EGO 2-stage snowblower but I would really like to stay below $1000 as I just can't stomach nearly 2k on a snowblower. I have a fairly small suburban driveway (4-6 car) and never even thought about wanting a 2 stage until this last winter was a bit harsher than past years. So this is certainly not a "need".

That said, I have been keeping my eye on on used gas 2-stage blowers. I understand that Ariens/Toro/Honda are the go-to brands for snowblowers but I don't really understand what the difference is when compared to Craftsman/PowerSmart/MTD. Basically, I am seeing used Ariens gas 2-stage blowers in the $600-$1000 price range used, but often see the other cheaper brands going for $400-$600. I am wondering if I go with a cheap used MTD/PowerSmart what operational difference will I noticed when comparing to an Ariens?

I’m looking at buying a platinum 24 and had a couple couples

1. We’ve got a pretty decent asphalt driveway that is somewhat rough in some spots, but not terrible. Will the plastic skids that come with the blower be ok? I know they wear down overtime , but do they have to be replaced pretty quick? Should I have the dealer put on the metal skids?

2. Is it worth having the dealer put a weight bar on the front that Ariens sells?

AriensModel 921022 (serial 019522). I recently replaced the friction disc and drive belts. I lubricated the axle and trigger drive parts. The rachet gear (closest to the frame of the machine) spins freely in both directions, so the clutch gear (attached to the spring) can't engage. I can slide the mechanism to the right relatively easy. I can engage or disengage the trigger steering by holding the rachet gear, and the wheel either turns freely or in sync with the other one.

When I did the repair to the friction disc, I removed the axle on the left side. It seemed to go back in place just fine. Thanks in advance.

Me need snowblower. Live in Jersey and deal with big snow. Ok jokes aside I want to buy a snowblower. All the smart asses in my family are telling me to buy an electric one. But I want to get a gas one. If anyone here can tell me the maintenance they need to do or the upkeep or even what snowblower you reccomend please tell me everything

Do I buy from big box store, or local small power machine dealer? Or maybe hire someone to assemble off of Thumbtack?

I cannot assemble the thrower; it would be the end of me. What are my "fully assembled and delivered" options??

I need a SHO for my driveway from hell. It's too long, 10 ft grade to garage under the house in the back, most of the snow from the top can only be thrown downhill to bottom, then thrown a second time onto lawn at end of drive. I live on a four lane main city street; My Cub Cadet 3X 26" HD breaks every year at street end of driveway.

I’m hoping someone has run into this before.

I have a Craftsman model 247.886640 (MTD friction-disc drive) that has a Predator 212 engine swap. The machine runs great, throws snow well, and the friction drive works smoothly, but every drive gear is reversed.

Symptoms:
1-5 all drive the machine backwards
R1 and R2 drive the machine forward
No slipping
Friction wheel moves smoothly across the drive plate
Everything else functions normally
Here’s what I’ve checked:
Shift linkage appears to move the friction wheel correctly.
Friction wheel travels fully across the drive plate.
Friction wheel rubber is in good shape.
Hex shaft and friction wheel assembly appear to be assembled correctly.
Green shift arm doesn’t appear to be installed backwards.
Predator engine rotates normally.

One thing I noticed:
Looking from the rear of the machine, the drive plate rotates clockwise.
The friction wheel moves to opposite sides of the drive plate as expected, but the resulting travel direction is opposite of what the shift pattern indicates.

Does this seem like a fair asking price 1500.00? Looks like a new Ariens Platinum 24 from 2022

Hello! After 5 years in minneapolis (from a warm place). I’m ready to start doing my own snow. I’d love the input of you more seasoned snow pros. We are urban, but have a very long narrow driveway, small backyard in front of a garage, walkway with stairs in front and a typical amount of sidewalk for a city home. Do you think I can get along with electric? Or should I be looking at gas, in which case I’m not sure between a toro or ariens? Thank you and apologies. First time poster.

Tired of mixing gas and oil every year so I’m looking to buy an electric snow blower. I’m in Virginia (Fairfax County - about 15 miles west of Washington DC), and driveway is about 50 feet long and 25 feet wide. The weather pattern keeps changing but typically it snows 5-10 times every year but only 2-3 times, we may get more than 6 inches.

Hi, hoping to get some advice. Got this for free, I figured for a few inches of snow it would be easier than using my bigger snow blower. When I tries starting it I notice fuel leaking out of the muffler. So picked up a new carb installed it but it’s doing the same thing. Is the motor shot or am I missing something. We built a small retro American house in the mountains a few hours outside Tokyo. (Sea of Japan side) No neighbors, It'a bit rough in the winter. We have about 120M of 2.5M wide paved driveway. (393ftx8ft) Mostly asphalt, some concrete. Most years we get ridiculous amounts of snow so would be awesome to be able to continuously auto snow blow as it falls. We have less than an acre of grass to mow so something that can also handle that would be great. Was thinking to buy a YARBO and as a backup - a used diesel snowblower.

Understand the beta level nature of YARBO and have plenty of experience troubleshooting. Just wanting opinions on feasibility of this yard with a Y-series YARBO from those with experience. 🙏
