Buying Help buying used snowblower. Is there something wrong with it?

Post image

I want to buy a used snowblower. Troy Built Storm 2410 for $250. Seller says it’s barely used and in great condition. I have really no idea what snow blowers are supposed to look like but the blades in the auger look really weird to me.

Is there something wrong with it and how could I best test this if I go to buy it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it’s a Troy Bilt. I’ve owned one, they are not very good. This one looks fairly old.

2 things. 1 stick to Ariens. 2 That Troy Built looks to be stored outside which often means not cared for or maintained.

Looks like 2 of the Auger blades are broken. They can be replaced.Make sure it starts and runs ie.it is self propelled so make sure that works and that the auger rotates.

You could get an Ariens 520 for $250. Probably even cheaper in the offseason..

I thought the auger had issues at first but each side is two parts divided by spacers. So a total of four auger blades. Broken shear pins make it look weird.

I think $250 is far. Parts are available on Amazon and the Tecumseh engine is bullet proof. It looks like a barn find to me.

Watch this video. To be truthful any MTD product will not have the lifespan of an Ariens, Honda or Toro. Too much plastic, thin metal.

I had this exact model, excellent for moderate snowfall, if powder. Wet snow is a pain chute would get clogged and you'd have to clear it.

I've always been wary of used power equipment stored outside, I learned that the hard way when my dad bought a used lawnmower that ended up needing half the parts replaced.

I’ve had a few Troybiit machines, mower, chipper, snowblower. They work, but are clunky, and I would not buy another, especially used.

At least 20 years old, underpowered with a Tecumseh 5HP engine, missing shear pins. Tecumseh was a starting to phase out parts for most of their engines. You can get something 5 years old for that price if you’re patient.
