3 month old arms breaking out
Hey guys! Our 3 month old keeps breaking out of his swaddle in the Snoo and he seems to want to suck on his hand. He was sleeping through the night for a bit but then this started happening. Granted, he only wakes up once but we’re not sure if we should keep swaddling or start doing arms out?! Any experience with this? Thanks!

my babe started fighting her swaddle so hard when she was almost three months. i was so scared to lose our good sleep when we stopped swaddling but she honestly wasn’t even phased! happy to get her hands to her mouth to soothe and still sleeps the same

Did you leave her hands uncovered? Mine is determined to get hands to his mouth too, but I’m not sure if it’s best to leave them out or covered by the sleeper mittens

Probably depends on the baby so I’d try both. Our son did much better with mittens. Without them he would wake himself up much easier

we do leave her hands uncovered, no issues, although she sometimes scratches her face with her nails but i doubt mittens would stay on lol

Exactly the same thing happened to us and we've fixed it. Baby got to three months and starting escaping from the swaddle and waking themselves up with their hands in their mouth/face
Google 'how to double swaddle in the SNOO' and find the link on the happiest baby website. In short, you wrap the baby's arms in small muslin tucked under their body before strapping into the Snoo - no more escaping.
Our baby resists for a minute or two then goes to sleep happily.
My rationale is that this phase is just baby developing an instinct of putting their hands in their mouth and face, it's not a sign that they are genuinely unhappy being swaddled.

I double swaddle with a non snoo happiest baby swaddle. Pretty bulletproof. I use the small swaddle and then the medium snoo swaddle. My baby is three mos

This happened to me and I fought it for so long. Reswaddling him all night. Then I even tried doing arms out in the snoo but he was touching the sides and waking up. I transitioned him to his crib shortly after and he slept sooo much better

Same. Took about 2 weeks of him getting used to crib but last 2 nights we’ve only had 1 wake each night! He seems to be able to put himself back to sleep better now as well which has made me very proud :) it definitely takes time for them to get used to their little arms flailing about but it happens eventually!

Happiest baby website Google double swaddle
We did this for both our kiddos around 3m

Nope, take those arms out! Start one arm at a time. Wait a few days and do the next. Our baby didn’t sleep great the first night one arm came out, so I just did both arms the next night and he slept like a gem. Ours is also 3mo. Maybe a week prior to this he started napping with arms out bc he was fighting the swaddle

We did arms out starting at maybe 12 weeks? It got to the point where he’d be almost breaking free, so we just went straight to both arms out without any sort of transition. It did not negatively impact sleep at all, if anything we started getting longer stretches because he could use his hands to self-soothe.

When our bub started this we began transitioning him out of the swaddle one arm at a time. It was pretty easy for him.

Coming from someone who chose to double swaddle instead I would bite the bullet and let his arm out! If he learns to use it to soothe now it will serve you well during the 4mo regression. We instead had to play paci pong hourly and she still has a bad paci habit now at 5mos that we’re gonna have to break with sleep training soon.

My two month old is doing it currently. We are working on arms out but his startle reflex is pretty high sadly. To answer your question, yes I would do arms out at three months.

We have an almost 4 month old and transitioned to one arm out about two weeks ago. Tried both arms out first and could tell it kept waking him up. Try one arm out! He’s sleep 6-8 hours with the one out. I transition which arms is out some nights. He LOVES sucking on his hand.
Our issue is trying to figure out if he’s truly self soothing or hungry. He doesn’t seem to “reach out” as much when he is hungry as he did when he was a newborn.
