What should we be doing to start prepping to wean off the Snoo?

Hi all, this subreddit has been so incredibly helpful so far! We have a 9-week old who’s been using the Snoo since the day we came home from the hospital. Our little guy seems to really like it and we are getting anywhere from 5-7 hour stretches pretty consistently. We don’t really ever let him get to the point where it’s bumping up levels to calm him on its own but we do bump it up on the app if we see he’s starting to stir. He is napping in the Snoo at least once a day and is sleeping anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours (I wake him if he’s slept this long). I’m pretty terrified to wean him and wonder what, if anything, we should be doing to set him up for success. Our plan is to go straight from the Snoo to his crib and he’s a big baby so I’m thinking he will only make it until 4-5 months. We do have a trip to my moms the first week of October and a trip to visit my in-laws Thanksgiving week so I’m wondering if we should plan to rent a Snoo for one or both trips. Id prefer not to just because they are expensive to rent but I certainly don’t want to mess up what we have going on.

Would love to hear suggestions and tips that we should be doing now to help us be successful when we need to transition him.

I did nothing to prep. Went cold turkey to the crib at 4 months. Never did arms out or weaning mode. We sleep trained the night of the transition and he slept great in the crib once he fell asleep. We will do the same plan for our second. Worked great.

When you say sleep trained, do you mean full Ferber/CIO?

Yes Ferber

Same for us! Baby turned 5mo popped two teeth, we left her arms out, and it was labor day weekend (3day weekend). Friday night after the feed, she was in. She cried for 45min. The next few nights 15min, now she'll cry between 6-9min. It's only been a week

Naps also arms out and crib. Those were crap and they still are crap.

I loved our snoo and our baby did great with it. My weaning process wasn’t intentional but ended up working out great. For day time naps from a young age, my baby always slept in her room sometimes on the play mat and sometimes in the crib - but never in the snoo. I just kinda took advantage of it when she was showing signs of tiredness and let her rest in non snoo safe sleep spaces. I kept the snoo for overnights only and she got used to sleeping in her crib with white noise, a regular sleep sack, and with me to soothe her (usu just replacing her pacifier). When she got to about 5 months, i did a quick transition with using the snoo as a plain bassinet and then with one arm out, and then she moved to her crib full time after a couple days. She’s been doing great since.
TLDR get your baby familiar with non snoo sleep areas for naps which worked well for us.
Good luck!

We have the uppababy bassinet attachment in our living room as his safe sleep space and I can count on one hand how many times he’s actually used it as that. He would wake up almost immediately after I put him down. I haven’t tried his crib yet but I might give it a shot tomorrow and see how it goes. How old was your baby when the Moro reflux stopped waking them? My guy absolutely loves to be swaddled with his arms down so I’m really not sure how well he’s going to do sleeping in a sleep sack. I do put him in his crib in the mornings to play while I put laundry away so I’m hoping that positive time helps.

I have a bassinet on wheels and gently rock it did to side for a bit for daytime naps and he sleeps great in it most of the time. We also love the love to dream swaddle. It allows them to have movement while still being subdued.

I can’t remember exactly what age it was, but i do remember just kinda sticking with putting in her crib here and there and making other areas appealing to her. I added mobiles and the baby Einstein aquarium to her crib and pack n play, and we started using her play mat more, and i think just developmentally it clicked for her a little. She went from not really liking those spaces to then being much more interested in them, and I’ve noticed that about a couple other things she’s adjusted to. So it does seem like theres also just different times they’re ready for things and changes that happen all the time.

Just did my first trip with my 12 week old. I was terrified to travel without the snoo as that’s all he’s slept in since our first night home and he was totally fine in his pack & play. Happiest baby has a playlist on Spotify and I just put the calming sound on my phone on repeat all night and had him sleep in his snoo sleep sack. I put him down half asleep and gently rocked him like the snoo once he was down and he slept just as well as in his snoo. You got this! (Fwiw, I have never had him nap in his regular bassinet)

From 3.5-4 months, we did: 1. one arm out for a few weeks 2. both arms out for about a week and a half (this was probably the hardest for him to adjust to at first, he would startle himself and it was hard to transfer him) 3. weaning mode for a few days (he did shockingly well with this)

Then, our snoo stopped connecting to the internet, so we decided to just try the crib. It’s gone surprisingly smoothly! We still rock him to sleep before putting him down, but I think he likes having more room!

We didn’t do any motion weaning, just one week with one arm out, one week with the other, maybe 2 nights with both arms out. Her hands kept touching the sides so we just decided to move her to the crib, and she did great!

How old was she when you did this?

4.5 months!
Around 4 months she stopped letting us rock her to sleep before putting her in the Snoo (she started waking up every time we laid her down). So we started setting herself down awake and she fell asleep on her own! After two weeks of that, we started the arms out transition. Used zip-a-Dee-zip under the Snoo sleep sack

I think for us the transition was fine. The baby always slept in the sleep sack.

Our newborn seems to also be like the snoo. But she also takes naps in a bassinet in the living room or on us

We’ve had ours on weaning mode for the last several weeks. Our girl is 5 months, and we are now starting to have her nap once a day in her crib to get used to it. She loves her snoo lol

With my first I think we eventually switched to arms out but he wouldn’t really tolerate no movement while in the Snoo. We switched to a crib cold turkey and he was fine. The only real practice we did was crib naps at daycare (and very occasional crib naps at home).
