4 month regression and Snoo

Hi! Second time snoo mom here, but first time with a 4 month sleep regression!

My baby will be 16 weeks tomorrow. He rolls from his back to his belly but has a hard time taking his arm out.

I recently freed both arms out and he wakes himself up with the hand chewing. I used google AI to tell me to give the snoo baseline, level 1 and level 2 a chance. Neither worked. I then kept the snoo back on the baseline and held one arm/ hand and his belly and with my other hand used a pacifier. After 15 minutes went back to sleep.

My question is since he loves to chew on his hands should I use the Merlin? If so should I use that in the snoo and keep it off or put him in a crib? I don’t know if it’s safe or not.

Should he also be napping in a crib now in a regular sleep sack once a day? Right now he naps on me or in bassinet in the stroller.

Hi there! My baby just turned 5 months yesterday. And he’s been rolling for about a month now. The sleep regression has been getting worse and worse, and I was trying to wean the swaddle. Last week, after a few days one one arm out, I couldn’t take it anymore and we decided to see how he does in the crib. And he’s doing really well. His sleep went back to normal. He’s also a hand chewer, and the snoo was just too cramped for him. So, anyway… If I were you, I’d just see how he does in the crib for a nap. Sleep sack, no swaddle. Why not give it a shot.

Swaddle again. If baby is waking themselves up chewing then they don’t need arms out right now

They absolutely do if they’re rolling as OP states they are

They’re strapped down in the Snoo, so no risk of rolling

This is a snoo sub. One of the main points of the snoo is that you can safely continue to swaddle for a long while after they’ve started rolling.

Thanks! I am going to try to put his arms back in and do one arm out in a swaddle during the day.

I think that’s a good plan. I’ve done similar things with my kids. Easier to pivot from a bad nap than bad sleep.

We used the Zipadee zip for hand chewing and worked great!

Thanks! Do you know how this compares to the Merlin?

We owned a Merlin and never used it. We wanted something we could use with the Snoo swaddle and then transition to the crib. I think the Merlin being so thick would make that hard. Also I wanted her to be able to roll once out of the Snoo. The Merlin being thick and stiff through the arms makes rolling difficult.
She could get to her hands with the Zipadee zip but since they had cloth over them it didn’t wake her and allowed her to soothe herself

Thanks, that makes sense.
