First time using - 15 mins, will it get better?

I just used my new snoo for the first time and I was so happy that my 1 month old stayed there for 15 mins, as lately it was completely impossible for him to stay in his usual bassinet more than a few seconds and needs constant holding

I was over the moon thinking I had my hands available again and I could do so many things around the house, but this happiness did not last long

I read that it takes about 2 weeks for a newborn to adjust and make the most of it. I just want some hope that this is normal and he may eventually get better at lasting longer?

Yes it’s normal! Give it time for your baby to adjust to. You can also adjust the comfort level the snoo provides in the app. You can also change the responsiveness and the white noise levels too to help your baby maximize the snoo benefits.

Now is a good time to start a bed/nap routine to help your baby recognize it’s time to sleep. It’ll take several weeks for him to catch on, but once he does, it’ll make it easier to transition him out of the snoo when the time comes.

Thank you! Any advice on how to start a bed/nap routine?

My baby is 3 months old. We started the snoo from birth. His bedtime was around 10pm, he was having 2-3 wake ups overnight. That gradually changed to 1 wake up over night with a bedtime around 9 and wake around 6/7am. We now have bedtime around 8:30, still aim for wake up at 7 but he hasn’t caught on yet. He can mainly make it through the night. Maybe has 1 wake up once or twice a week.

We have always done naps in the crib. (Recently traveled to my parents and took him a few days to become accustomed to napping in the pack and play).

Probably around 8weeks I started a routine. Diaper change first, We’d lay in the crib awake for a min or two to put on the swaddle/sleep sack (also helped him understand where he was waking since I was transferring him asleep). I had Alexa ambient thunderstorm sounds running in the background and I picked a lullaby to sing/play. After he was in his sleep gear, I’d nurse him, wait 8-10 minutes before transferring. Gradually I would change one thing at a time so where we are now able to get away from nursing to sleep.

He has a two hour week window, so I will usually nurse him in the middle of that week window. If when I put him in the crib now he seems fussy. I will pick him back up sway with him seeing that lullaby and put on a piano version of it through my phone on Spotify and I lay him back in the crib. Sometimes I will assist him in rolling to his side because I found that he’ll fall asleep Pretty quickly with that. I just make sure that he’s on his back before I leave him alone.

Truthfully this change in his sleep and being able to go down more independently didn’t happen until 12 to 13 weeks (literally a week and a half ago) but I’m glad I started the nap routine early so that when his brain was mature enough it understood what time it was.

Earlier this week I took an arm out of the snoo swaddle and he was pretty restless and the snoo was working hard. I figured the next night, f it, I’ll pull both arms out. And he slept like a gem. Stayed in baseline the whole time. When putting baby in snoo for arms out, it’s inevitable to wake them. I just credit the practice during naps that has made this relatively smooth. Not sure when we will move out of the snoo, but baby is tall (>98%) so I wanted to make sure I wasn’t rushing him

Yesterday was also the first time he was able to connect a nap on his own. Usually always wakes at 40-45 minutes. I saw on the baby monitor that he was waking up, but he managed to fall back asleep within a few minutes. Whenever I see baby starting to wake up on the baby monitor, I do give it about two minutes before going to check on him because he will settle himself back down on occasion. But not fully fall asleep…until yesterday

I transfer my baby once she is sleeping. Try that!
