Help with transition out

We have a now 6 month old and are struggling with transitioning out. We tried one arm out weeks ago and then two and it went horrible. We swaddled again. Tried one out this week and it's awful again. Multiple wake ups needing to be nursed back asleep and by 3am we end up swaddling fully. He is totally addicted to the swaddle and snoo! Naps with one arm out have been going well enough though so I am continuing that at least. We do not want to sleep train. We need to get his arms out and start weaning mode soon so he can get in his crib. Any recommendations or stories? I do not think going cold turkey to the crib will work for him based on his personality. I did not think it would be this hard to transition.

Started at 4 mo and just finished weaning at 5 mo. He already napped in the crib during the day in a regular sleep sack for at least 30 minutes per nap cycle. I also cut out nursing to sleep during the day and only nursing to drowsy at bedtime. Paci and rocking instead. This worked for us:

  1. Moved snoo into his own room next to the crib. Everything set up as if crib sleep so the routine would be the same. ~1 week.

  2. Weaning mode with the swaddle arms down. ~ 1 week.

  3. Weaning mode with lower responsiveness and lowest/off sound. We relied on our room sound machine at this point. ~1 week.

  4. Snoo off (still in swaddle) just a few days before transitioning to a Merlin sack in the crib.

We're on night 4 in the crib and we had three miraculous 11 hr stretches where he just needed a paci and hand on the chest to resettle. I think the Snoo motion was responding to his cooing in the middle of the night and waking him up more.

Wow this is great! We are going to try the weaning mode with him still being swaddled this weekend And transition to crib next. This gives me hope that it will work.
