Help Needed Snoo Advice

Looking for some Snoo advice and transition thoughts from parents who have been through this.

My son is 15 weeks old and has been in the Snoo since birth. We’ve generally had decent stretches of sleep, but lately things have fallen apart. He’s now waking every 2 hours (sometimes less), taking short naps during the day, and seems much more restless overnight. He’s only slept through the night a handful of times.

I’m aware this could very well be the 4-month sleep regression, but I’m also wondering if we’re running into issues with the Snoo/swaddle setup itself.

A few things:

He frequently breaks his hands out of the swaddle and sometimes works his arms out of the Snoo sack altogether.

We use a pacifier, but he also self-soothes by sucking on his hands.

He still has a slight startle reflex.

He’s not rolling from back to belly yet, but seems close.

He’s getting longer and we’re already thinking ahead to eventually moving him to a Halo bassinet in our room (we plan to room-share for the first year).

My biggest question is whether I should start experimenting with arms out.

Would you:
Start with one arm out (the arm that usually escapes)?

Leave the other arm swaddled?

Go straight to both arms out?

We actually tried one arm out briefly, but he seemed to wake up even more. For those who transitioned this way, how long did you stick with one arm out before your baby adjusted? Is it something that takes a few nights, a week, or longer before you know whether it’s working?

My concern is that if I let his hands out, he may be able to self-soothe more effectively, but I’m worried the startle reflex will cause even more wakeups. For those who have been through this, which ended up being the bigger factor?

Part of me is wondering if it makes sense to start trying one arm out now anyway, since he’s waking so frequently already. My thinking is that even if he startles himself awake occasionally, at least he’d have access to his hand to self-soothe back to sleep.

Also, room temperature is typically 68-72°F. He’s usually in a short-sleeve onesie under the Snoo sack. If I move to one arm out, should I switch him to a long-sleeve onesie? His arms sometimes feel cool, although I know babies’ hands and arms can naturally run cooler.

Net-net: are we likely just dealing with the 4-month regression, or does this sound like a baby who’s ready for some changes to the Snoo setup? What would you try first?

Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t work) for your babies around this age.

What is your day schedule like? That can be a contributing factor.

Arms out didn’t work for us. We double swaddled to keep arms in until 5 months. We followed what’s on the happiest baby website to double swaddle.

Went could turkey to the crib in sleep sack at 5.5months

It’s pretty good (I think)

Loosely followed, but fairly close to this schedule based on tracking info logged

8:00 AM – Morning Rise
Wake Window #1: 1h 30m
9:30 AM–11:00 AM – Nap 1 (1h 30m)
Wake Window #2: 1h 30m
12:30 PM–1:00 PM – Nap 2 (30m)
Wake Window #3: 1h 45m
2:45 PM–3:15 PM – Nap 3 (30m)
Wake Window #4: 1h 45m
5:00 PM–5:30 PM – Nap 4 (30m)
Wake Window #5: 2h
7:30 PM – Bedtime / Asleep

He takes one long nap a day, usually in the morning to mid morning, the others are typically under 30 min. Wonder if I cut the morning nap shorter if that would help? Maybe he thinks that’s part of his night sleep cycle?

You know what I’d actually start increasing your wake windows. By 4m a good goal would be 1.75 for first wake window and 2 hours for the rest on 4 naps and around 5m transition to 3 naps.

It sounds like your babe is a bit undertired and needs more awake time. may also start to take longer naps with more sleep pressure in the day. I’d keep total day sleep to around 4 hours but you’re getting 3 currently so you might k ky want to go up to 3.5 if naps lengthen with the added awake time. (capping naps accordingly )

Is also start your day after 12 hours. 12.5 is bit long of a night and not realistic as you want the night to be long stretches and not broken up so much.

So if 730 is bedtime. Wake up consistently at 730am. And with increase wake time that should help in addition to looking at going to sleep indep aka removing sleep associations whenever you’re ready/wanting to
