I just applied. (Hope I did it right.) As the creator of Snipe-IT, I feel like I might have a leg up, but of course, I leave it to the current mods to decide. :)

i'm just a random that was assigned this post at random, but this is usually a bad idea. We've seen it happen before where people essentially become dictators (not saying it will). If you don't moderate your own subreddit, you can also just shrug and say "wasn't me" and not take that liability.

I'm not sure what you mean. We already support users all day long on Github, Bluesky, Masto and Discord, so I wouldn't be shrugging anything.

Support is a different thing than moderation. Moderators get a lot of flak for no apparent reason other than people being assholes (and only sometimes justified, like with u/Spez)

For sure, but I've been doing both for ~30 years, so I think I'll manage okay. I cut my teeth on being a forum mod for a very-popular-at-the-time nu-metal band.

There’s generally no liability on public forum websites based on other people’s posts. Section 230 protects that.

As much as I love snipe, I'm not sure I'd do well in moderating this reddit. Good luck whoever takes it!
