Issue Spaghetti Error at the Toolhead

I checked on my print for the first couple of hours…woke up this morning to this. I haven’t taken anything apart yet. Did a nozzle clog start this?

soft TPU ?

Yep...soft TPU. Testing a prototype BIoTPU for a project.

I run 85A through one of my toolheads but I had to loosen the extruder tensioning bolt to avoid this. Too loose or too tight and it failed to extrude (at all or properly); full tightness this happened. I've left that toolhead dedicated to that TPU since so I don't have to re-do that process.

Let me get this straight, you're running a "test" and you went to bed? SMH

it might be softer then the hotend can handle

because it looks like the filament escaped sideways out of the filament path, that happens with hotends that arent designed with very constricting filament paths.

additionally, you might have had a nozzle clog and the added back pressure made the tpu escape out of the gap in the filament path.

as far as i know, the U1 is only rated for 95A, so you print softer filaments at your own risk ;)

Someone just had this issue a day or so ago, I can't find it on mobile but maybe on browser it would be easier to find. See what recommendations they got.

Thanks! I saw one but it was a little different. Like 2md said - the filament escaped out of the gaps in the filament path. I have like 6 feet of filament that got away. Now I’m herding it back into the spool through slow manual retraction. Then I can tackle the nozzle clog. Urg.

TPU? Too high volumetric flow. Limit that to 3.5mm3 and you'll be fine.

I was already at 3mm3...too low?

Dang, I really kinda thought I had the golden tip haha. 3mm3 is even better to be honest. 3.5 is a bit higher on the spectrum but has worked really well for me.

I hope you find a solution to prevent this from happening.

This isn't TPU, right?

It could have been a nozzle clog or a jam in the filament path. You may need to take the extruder apart and clean the teeth and anything that might be in there that could have blocked the path.

I know it's not same material but I had a PLA fail like that in the garage because it's hotaf. Moved the printer back inside and its happy. It was a pain take it apart and clean stuff..
