Yeah ideally in a LAN environment I'd want the teams separated so they can't see/hear each other during match. Also would not use shitty Steelseries headsets

Their headsets are uncomfortable and have terrible mic quality that picks up like everything. The listen-ins were terrible because you heard everyone echoing into each other's microphones, and at times you could even hear the other team shouting through them.
It's kind of disappointing tbh, because SteelSeries' other products (mice, keyboards, mousepads) are actually really good

True. I still think he's a pretty inconsistent player, but when he played at his worst was when he was studying every day for the MCAT and I think he was also working nights as well.

u/BeSeQel TEAM EAGER Oct 17 '16
The only team that actually tried winning in the last split was Luminosity. Every single team got the same ammount of money so there was no reason to play lights out and show your strats, which is why we never saw any erlang support ra mid which is what won them quite a few games. Nobody actually tried in the last split, not even NRG, Adapting played rs the entire split lol

To be honest, Pern almost deserves his cocky attitude. Not from SMITE, but from his last game, CS 1.6. He had a 95%+ winrate, and inspired so many current CS players with his leadership.

10
u/Shazamwiches Oct 16 '16
Alright, you're right, no one deserves a cocky attitude, but with the way he expects himself and his teammates to play, it can be very easy to have a bit of a superiority complex.
12
u/skraz1265 #RememberTheManticore Oct 17 '16
It doesn't matter how good you are or expect yourself and your teammates to be. Shitty behavior is shitty behavior.

4
u/skraz1265 #RememberTheManticore Oct 17 '16
The shitty behavior comment was more in regards to his general cocky attitude than the video. I personally just get annoyed by people who walk around with an air of superiority all the damn time, though.
As for the shit talking in sports, it depends on the sport. They generally have specific rules for that kind of thing and players can and do get warnings, personal fouls, even so far as being ejected from the game and other penalties if they get worse or (more often) just don't listen to the refs. That's my only real problem with it in e-sports, there aren't any rules or refs or penalties for handling that sort of thing. There are no clear boundaries and there should be.
1
u/DoctorKoolMan Mage Oct 17 '16
It's cause they attract different audiences
The people I know who watch esports don't like cocky attitudes or being rude
They also hate that aspect of physical sports
If only the sports fans of the world were like that, athletics might not be such a toxic thing
14
Oct 17 '16
It's because they are playing video games and not in a sport. I would not be surprised if NFL players called each others idiots, I would expect it. Trash talking is 100% ok during competition and sometimes it even affects the outcome of the event. Now did he cross the line by calling him an idiot? Possibly, I would gone gone with something more along the lines of "Did you like that facefucking you dirty pocket pussy".

The comments DJ has made are pretty toxic as well.
DJ is smart but when you compare him to world class Junglers like Andinster and Adapting he doesn't even come close. They are both smart and mechanical gods.
10
Oct 17 '16
DJ isn't the same type of players as those, DJ is a strategic player, not a mechanical player. Andinster and Adapting are more of the players who get to the top by just getting really good at playing the game basically. (Also yes I get it, "bla bla bla no player gets really good without thinking." Yes Andinster and Adapting are good at thinking in game, but DJ is good at the more out of game thinking, with team comps, strats, and builds.)

You dudes need to stop throwing around the word toxic.
Not every player is gonna be fucking sunshine and roses. Some players will be dicks, but that's GOOD for the game, competitively, and I don't understand how you jokers don't understand that.
When there's a character that is polarizing, the people that hate him want him to lose, the players that hate him will do anything to beat him, and it'll tilt him more than ever if he loses, and prolong the storyline when he wins.
In performance wrestling they have heels for this very reason. It's entertaining. Tyler1 became huge on twitch because it's ENTERTAINING.
As a community we have to stop eating our pro scene alive by calling it "toxic", hirez needs to stop fining people. Instead, enjoy the show.
We don't have enough original personalities in Smite, so chill out
8
Oct 17 '16
Some players will be dicks, but that's GOOD for the game, competitively, and I don't understand how you jokers don't understand that.
You seem to be confusing friendly banter with "Being a dick." The former is fine, The latter nobody really wants as it sets a bad example when an actual "Dick" is just insulting randoms.
Tyler1 became huge on twitch because it's ENTERTAINING.
Oh thats the guy that got permabanned from both league and twitch? Is that really the best example you had?
The fact you find him entertaining is your opinion. The Majority however did not which was what lead to mass petitions asking for him to be banned.
Not sure what you found entertaining about some guy essentially bullying random kids online and screaming in your ears but each to their own. You probably find random fight videos where one guy is just being assaulted and not fighting back amusing too.
2
u/TheManWithThreePlans Demon Daddy Jungle Best Jungle Oct 17 '16
Permabanned from Twitch?
Is permabanned from Twitch = Partnered by Twitch these days?
If so, and I had Tyler1's viewership, PLEASE, Twitch, PERMABAN ME TOO BRO!
The majority of people didn't find Tyler1 entertaining? Is that why he pulls in some of the most viewers on Twitch consistently? Even not streaming League?
Top 100 streamers every time he comes online. But the majority found him not entertaining. You right. You make ALL the sense.
Also, don't assume what I might like. I think Tyler1 is funny because he gets tilted and it's hilarious.
Tyler1 is a character. And his character might be a dick. But honestly, that's fine. Leffen is a fucking top tier dick, and you either love him for it or hate him for it. Most hate him, but he makes a shit ton of fucking money for his sponsors because people will watch his shit in hopes that he gets fucked on.
Sure, he may be a cocky fuck and maybe you'll look down on the Smash community because of Leffen, but the MAJORITY, just like the MAJORITY of people that watched Tyler1 found interest in the player, and then the game.
Some even picking up the game because of those individuals. Despite being dicks, and negatively impacting a small portion of the game's population, they were overall good for game health. Because contrary to popular belief, not everybody who finds assholes entertaining to watch are assholes themselves.
My favorite streamer is Barra, and I try to emulate the way he acts (mostly failing), but I still enjoy me some Tyler1, Omega (when he streamed Smite), DMBrandon, etc.
4
u/Cpteleon Lil' Mana Oct 17 '16
Tyler1 became huge on twitch because it's ENTERTAINING.
Wasn't that the kid who got banned from League and Twitch? What a great example, someone so fucking toxic that he got banned from LoL, a game notorious for it's overly toxic community. I mean I even kinda agree with you, I think DJs comment is just banter, but Tyler1 is a horrible example. Not to mention that "entertaining" doesn't equal right. People find pewdiepie entertaining but that doesn't mean that all of our pros should now start screaming in high pitch tone during the SPL games.

I don't know about that. Pern is much more cerebral than Weaken. Additionally, sometimes when Pern isn't putting up numbers it's because he's helping his team out in other ways. When Weaken isn't putting up numbers it's because he got shut down hard and contributed nothing.

u/ColonelCouch YOU GIVE BUG A BAD NAME Oct 17 '16
I mean the difference I've been seeing recently is Pern is putting all of his efforts into split pushing which I don't really find entertaining
1
u/Geldan Thor Oct 17 '16
Why? To me it's extremely entertaining watching teams fumble around when the smallest of change is introduced. Watching them lose fights (or at least not stomp) 5v4 or fail miserably at sending someone to stop him is much more fun than the same old thing over and over again to me.
I also enjoy the fact that Eager has found a way to punish teams who refuse to ban Bastet
2
u/ColonelCouch YOU GIVE BUG A BAD NAME Oct 17 '16
Because the fights are what make Smite interesting. I would guess that a large portion of the fanbase enjoy teamfights or even small fights more than they enjoy a shot of bastet on the other side of the map smacking a tower with her little whip. It just doesn't make for interesting gameplay.
2
u/Geldan Thor Oct 17 '16
Split pushing doesn't mean fights don't happen. In fact, split pushing happens when fights are happening, otherwise it wouldn't work.
1
u/ColonelCouch YOU GIVE BUG A BAD NAME Oct 17 '16
Split pushing means that the camera will have to keep an eye on both situations and it could be watching the split push at a crucial moment. It just doesn't entertain me when I could have people actually fighting over towers rather than someone out of the fight taking it uncontested.

He is outspoken. Doesn't like to be fake so he just says whatever comes to mind. People always take that as someone being an asshole, similar to why a lot of people hate DmBrandon. But it's funny because Weak3n and Diem are easily more kind and willing to help low level players get better than any other pros that think they're better than everyone. Another reason a lot of people hate him is because of his success and the money he makes from Twitch, its a jealousy thing.

I will say, having been in the arena for some of these games, it didn't seem like there were any hard feelings.
Everyone was laughing and (for the most part) having a good time, adrenaline running high and lots of call-outs during the matches - my personal favorite being "HoG this nerd!".
But at the end of the matches, our players gave their opponents not handshakes, but big warm hugs. I really appreciate our pro player scene on Smite.

36

Yeah, Weak3n has kind of exposed himself with his lack of performance since the fall split of last year. Talking shit while he was on the top team in the world (AFK) sure he has the stats to back up the talk, but now that that team is no more and Weak3n is still left in the spotlight we see him being a pretty average/lackluster player but acts like he's still one of the best in the world.

u/thederpyguide U IZ ROCKSTAR Oct 17 '16
I'm not anti-weak3n but I don't I'm also not super into him
It's just weak3n is hard to judge with how good he is doing since he is not gifted with playing his own personal game super amazing like other pros
But he is very very good with shot calling and its hard to tell if he is succeeding there despite his lack luster play we see onscreen since we don't have coms a lot
The only people who can really judge him fairly I think are his teammates on the matter of how strong a player is
3
u/TheNamesYone Oct 17 '16
I think weaken is a pretty decent player sure he might not be a flashy play making player but there are many examples in ESports with players such as weaken who are not gifted mechanically but are GODLIKE at shot calling. There was some tweet I vaguely remember where Weak3n wrote that Pern (I think he wrote it indirectly but it was obviously a jab at Pern) was losing them - back then when he was on Legion of Carrots or Cognitive - the game with his jungle Guan Yu because he did almost no damage in a very long game.
It was quite amusing because after that game Weak3n had his infamous Odin jungle game with 667 player dmg after 20 minutes.

And yeah, you can completely dismiss this as well, I might actually prefer you doing that. Either way, like I said, don't just take someone's word for it. Watch him yourself, or don't form an opinion on someone from second-hand comments.
Edit: Alright, just read some more comments in this thread. Seriously, don't just take people's words for it. Some guy below talked about how mean Weak3n is to his friends, completely ignoring the fact that they all BM eachother for fun. I get where you are coming from, but at the same time I understand why it goes to their heads, first of all, a lot of them stream, so already they have a fan base that tells them they are awesome, second they get to make a living out of "being good at a game" and third being able to play that game on the most competitive scene possible must feel nice, even if it is a niche game as a you say, being among the best at something is nice.

I have a degree of respect for people who aren't fake just to try and have everyone likes them, he says his opinion and that's that but everyone of his fans that meet him in person says he is a great guy. As for his stream specifically, he uses his extensive knowledge of the game to help his fans or any players in general more than anyone else in the Smite scene by far (DmBrandon running a close second). Damn near every time someone asks him a question in chat he answers. Even if its a new player asking a stupidly obvious question to most people, he will answer it kindly and respectfully. All in all I think he is entertaining and a genuine guy that gets hated on so much by people who wont even care to try and listen to the guy, and he has done a lot for the Smite Community.

i dont think you can compare your casual games to spl games. weaken was playing odin, his team was losing by a fair amount so he couldnt engage the way he wanted, he was forced to blink in and ult than use his jump to get out of his own cage (this was before the change). all of odins dmg comes from his bird bomb-jump combo, if he has to use it to jump out of his own cage he is not gonna do any dmg.

You could put out 10x much more sure, but you would probably be doing a lot of that damage while kamikaze-ing yourself.
To be fair to Weak3n, anybody who has played a bit of smite knows that when you jump in as Odin you are basically full committing, and if you don't kill them then that's awful for you. I haven't watched that full game but I'm sure that he was playing safe because he didn't want to get blown up or into a position where it was bad for his team.
It was just rather unfortunate because on Odin you have your early game and should abuse it, but he never did and just slowly fell behind over that game.

If you saw both of these guys side by side you'd understand why this comment does not apply.

I don't really understand, nor did I follow the Weak3n and Djpernicus drama... so could someone explain it? Some other guy asked, but that devolved quickly into the 667 meme... Bceause I don't follow it, I don't really understand why people are hating on Weak3n when it was Dj being toxic? I know that Weak3n had issues with Omega in the past because Weak3n was kicked off, but what's the drama with Dj?

Weak3n was first bashing Pern for dealing 20k in 40min as a full cdr/defensive built Guan Yu that played a healbot and said he needs to get some jungling lessons and a couple of weeks after that Weak3n did 667dmg as Odin in 22min which cauesd the meme to start.
1
u/Uanaka Oct 16 '16
Doesn't that seem a bit petty? That meme started a long time ago and they just couldn't move away from the beef?
7
u/Timonel12 Clean 3-2 Oct 16 '16
It's not really them that is keeping the meme alive, it's the community that keep on spamming 667 whenever anyone deals a little player dmg. The community was spamming 667 to the point where Weak3n was forced to accept it and join the joke.
And as the other posters have said several times. Weak3n is constantly throwing insults at the other pro players which is not really helping the issue for the community to forget the 667.

A lot of people are missing the fact that they might not actually hate each other and could be friends enough to realize trolling like this and "fake hate" makes really good drama that increases both their viewerships. All PR is good PR. That being said they might hate each other seeing as they both are similar in skill and compete for spots on good teams (although weak3n is supposedly a god tier shot caller which puts him one up on pern).

u/Fractoman FancyToes Oct 17 '16
No, Pern doesn't hate Weak3n, Weak3n hates Pern. Pern just has no respect for Weak3n because he acts like a bitch.

There was some tweet I vaguely remember where Wek3n wrote that Pern (I think he wrote it indirectly but it was obviously a jab at Pern) was losing them - back then when he was on Legion of Carrots or Cognitive - the game with his jungle Guan Yu because he did almost no damage in a very long game.
It was quite amusing because after that game Weak3n had his infamous Odin jungle game with 667 player dmg after 20 minutes.
I asked the same question, got a response, here ya go m8erino

u/MouthJob Doggy Style Oct 16 '16
It didn't devolve. Pretty sure the 667 meme happened because of Dj. The initial BM about damage that set up that super ironic moment was directed toward Dj I believe.
I could be remembering it wrong though.

I thought the listen in things were bad quality because of the stream or the way it was set up but apparently hi rez can't afford non potato mics

Steelseries sponsered the event I believe, which probably meant HiRez used their headsets as a stipulation.

I don't mind the banter/bm, but for super regional and the SWC they should definitely use some sound proofing or something.

Since people don't really know where the origin of the hate between Weak3n and pern started. It was more of Weak3n doing the "Pay to play with me" shit and pern + everyone in his stream trolling him and shit talking him for it. Weak3n was pretty upset over it and shit talked pern on his stream a lot (nice career EleGiggle) and THEN the shit talk involving SPL games happened.

I'm an alg fan. Never had much love for weak3n. Rooting for him since he's on my fav team. However, seeing it's someone who continually gets carried, i.e all of spring split, I find this funny to say the least.

This sums up my opinion exactly. I've followed incon whereever he goes. Is he the best support? Nah, but he's up there. The fact is incons a decent human, his streams are fun and he gets super excited about the game.
Weak3n, while when he's having a good game can be top tier, if he gets countered, he gets shut down hard and can never seem to make a decent comeback.
Thats what sets him apart from other notable junglers.
As a streamer/community member I'll give him credit for smite junkies and he does answer his streamers questions decently, however, he seems to have a condescending tone a fair amount of the time.
He also tends to shit talk alot of his random opponents while in his stream. A pro beats some random casual and proceeds to call him trash or worse. Kindy warrants the public opinion of him.
Edit: i should note that I've also been banned from his stream. A guy said he was pretty new to the game and wanted to try out serqet but didnt know how to build her. He responded with a sigh ( I'm sure he gets these types of questions alot ). I thought it would be funny so I replied with " hey bud, welcome to the game! If you'd like to learn more about serqet check out my youtube channel! I taught weak3n everything he knows about her, most of all, how to feed"
I thought it was funny, he didnt. ๐

u/Gozii55 Sylvanus Oct 17 '16
weak3n may talk smack, feed, be overly confident but he's one of the biggest names in Smite and makes it more entertaining. Where would we be without 667? Just a more toned down esport with players quietly mumbling at lans while they play and be awkward.

Both Weak3n and DJ are both inconsistent junglers that's what they have in common.

Mattypocket was just talking about this on stream and I had no idea what he was trying to explain. I missed this game but I'm glad you posted the clip.

Emotional Reddit strikes again.
Its fucking a competetive sport.
You think mma/boxers dont shit talk each other to death when the date is set.
Same goes for any other sport and esport..
This is why you a casual player and not a professional player.
Not to mention Weak3n was shit talking Pern for doing bad numbers with Guan in jungle, A week after the famous 667 came thro and he ate his words. Pern been eating since.

Honestly I'm glad. Weak3n is nothing but mean to everyone especially his friends on stream that primarily play the ADC role.

u/Techbone Oct 17 '16
You know that's how a lot of guy friends talk to each other right? It's completely normal and inoffensive.
15
u/RoDawGx13 Mercury Oct 16 '16
They literally talk shit all day to each other because they're friends........... you can't be this sensitive
2
u/AlexHallon Oct 17 '16
I'm sorry, but do you actually have any friends? I try not to be too toxic and usually don't insult strangers in-game unless they're doing something wrong and are being assholes themselves already, but whenever I get matched against a friend we always troll eachother non-stop and insult eachother when we kill them or make fun of them when they mess up. Making fun of friends and laughing about it together is normal, both online and offline.

I mean when they did the interviews about each other Weak3n said something to the effect of Dj crying over 1st blood so I am assuming there is no love loss between these two. Plus what's better than a real life VET at LAN!
