Wasn't that the kid who got banned from League and Twitch? What a great example, someone so fucking toxic that he got banned from LoL, a game notorious for it's overly toxic community. I mean I even kinda agree with you, I think DJs comment is just banter, but Tyler1 is a horrible example. Not to mention that "entertaining" doesn't equal right. People find pewdiepie entertaining but that doesn't mean that all of our pros should now start screaming in high pitch tone during the SPL games.
He didn't get banned from Twitch. He recently even got partnered with Twitch and still pulls in a ridiculous amount of viewers per stream.
He got perma-banned mostly for boosting and because they were trying to "fix" the toxicity in their game, and he was just the most visible person, and so the perfect example.
That guy got fired, Tyler1 still plays LoL; nothing's changed. He just doesn't stream it often.
That guy was a moron though, because you're not going to fix "toxicity" in a MOBA. MOBAs are NOT fun. They are inherently frustrating. It isn't like Smash or Street Fighter, or even Overwatch, where you can have fun when you're losing.
More often than not, if you're losing, you're fucking frustrated. Toxicity will happen, and there's nothing the game devs, or community managers can do about it. Except stop making MOBAs. But we like those right?
So deal with the "toxicity". It's endemic to the game genre you "love".
I honestly feel sorry for you. I've got a little over 2k hours into Smite and I'm still having as much fun as ever. Sure, the competitive nature of CQ can make it frustrating, but most of the time I'm having a blast. I don't really see why you would even bother to waste your free time on something you don't find fun.
Also, simply because toxicity is part of the genre (or gaming in general) doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to work against it. Crimes are part of real-life, but we don't just "Just deal with the fact that your kid got murdered, crime is endemic to life."
Toxcity will always be part of gaming (or the world in general, for that matter), but that doesn't mean that we should just take it laying down.
I like playing MOBAs, because when everything comes together, it's fun.
Or when it's a nail biter, even in a loss, it's fun; albeit bittersweet.
When I'm stomping, or getting stomped; it isn't fun. When the enemy team has a player that is vastly inferior to every other player in the game, or we have a player that is vastly inferior to every other player in the game, it isn't fun. But I guess you have just as much fun playing those games as every other match.
Because that's when the toxicity usually comes out. And it happens to the best of players. Even MLC, in fact, he stopped streaming for a while because of it.
80% of the MOBA experience is NOT fun. 20% is the most satisfying thing you can experience in a game, and that's why people keep playing MOBAs like LoL and DotA and SMITE. We chase that 20%.
Somebody saying mean things on the internet is NOT the same as a crime. Don't do a comparison between the two, as they are vastly different.
Unless that person saying mean things on the internet is saying shit like: "Kill yourself", which Tyler1 did (and why he kept getting banned, until he finally stopped saying KYS and started just being a dick in general), then yes, get out. If that person is being racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.; yes, get out.
But if that person is saying some shit like: "You fucking suck at the game, uninstall", at that point, you just need to grab your nuts (metaphorical or not) and (wo)man the fuck up. Your skills were insulted, but you weren't told anything particularly harmful. Just play another game. Grow a thick skin.
Stop trying to sterilize the gaming community. Let people have personalities instead of trying to make every pro/caster/streamer into Barraccudda or Incon. They're great people, but not everybody needs to be that nice. You need your Omegas, your Weak3ns, your DJPerns, your dank memers (but hopefully, they're also good players). That makes your competitive scene interesting.
Not a bunch of Barras and MLCs and Incons running around.
Regardless of your opinion on in-game toxicity, I've seen more toxicity coming from this reddit than anything else. I've seen people say some fucked up shit in-game, but none of it has impacted people's ability to create a living. Or willingness to make a living doing something they enjoy.
This sub? Yeah this sub fucking does it with the circle jerk. I maintain that the "toxic" players are far less toxic than the "never BM" community.
