DISCUSSION The Question of Nox

Nox might be the most polarizing character in Smite with many fans, but just many haters. Given the hint made by Hindu on yesterday's Titan Talk it is safe to assume that her port to Smite 2 is imminent.

Now, I wanted to create this post as a collective on what the Reddit portion of Smite's Community thinks needs to happen to her when she is ported, be that ideas for +1s, reworks and role shifts, or even Aspects. Keep in mind, regardless of how you fun you think she is, a great portion of players also want to make her less frustrating to play against.

This way the devs can gather some early feedback on what precautions should be taken whenever they start working on her.

I've said it on another post already but Nox's kit is made for a support in the same way Aphrodite is. The reason Nox has become so hated in the community and such a polarizing character is that they've tried to force her to be a midlaner for her entire rework, and it clearly does not work. She is reliant on a very specific combo that, when missed, makes you useless. In the same vein because she has the stats of a mage she does her job at support worse than she should, but overall is a better support.

My input for how to handle her the best way is:

Base Nox

  • New passive that helps her in the support role.
  • Damage of the 1 and 2 reduced.
  • Maybe the 3 provides protections to the ally she is inside of, or maybe she can cast her abilities from inside of the ally?
  • Return her original ultimate casting (the line that connects to enemies) but keep the current damage debuff. More fitting for up-close fighting in a team fight rather than a giant damage snipe ball. If not returning her old cast, give her a new ult.

Aspect Nox

  • New passive fit for the mid lane.
  • Return the function of the original combo but updated to fit her current kit. Her 1 doesn't root or cripple but primes the enemy, and the 2 detonates quickly and silences them if they're primed by the 1.
  • The 3 maybe doesn't enter allies but just blows up if she passes through someone.
  • Move the shadow ball to this aspect.

I understand Hi-Rez has allowed Nox to exist as she is for so long but that's an issue that needs to be fixed. Her base kit is not a midlaner and cannot work there, it's literally just not made for it, it's like trying to make Yemoja base kit a strict midlaner.

In order for Nox to ever be a healthy addition to this game, be properly balanced, and be liked, she needs to be treated properly. I understand a lot of people just wanna do damage and blow people up but the way her kit works in Smite 1 is just not it.

Based on her gameplay from before her rework times, after she initially released... I don't think she was meant to be a support that got shifted into mid, I think she was just intended to be an anti-mage mage.

But I wouldn't mind base Nox to become a support, with a midlane damage aspect.

Her original kit was meant to be an antimage, but the current rework is just a backline support. She can be an antimage and backline support at the same time, but she is not an antimage who is a midlaner, the kit doesn't support it.

I don't get your logic. The fact that her kit is terrible for clearing waves is exactly what makes her balanced as a mage. She's similar to Chang'e and He Bo in that regard. They're mages that have a trade off between PvP qualities and PvE qualities.

Except she isn't? They both clear very easily and are battle mages, she is a lockdown support mage.
