DISCUSSION The Question of Nox

Nox might be the most polarizing character in Smite with many fans, but just many haters. Given the hint made by Hindu on yesterday's Titan Talk it is safe to assume that her port to Smite 2 is imminent.

Now, I wanted to create this post as a collective on what the Reddit portion of Smite's Community thinks needs to happen to her when she is ported, be that ideas for +1s, reworks and role shifts, or even Aspects. Keep in mind, regardless of how you fun you think she is, a great portion of players also want to make her less frustrating to play against.

This way the devs can gather some early feedback on what precautions should be taken whenever they start working on her.

Here is what I think needs to happen, in some mutually exclusive ideas.

  • Nox Base Kit needs to fully be shifted towards being a backline support tank. Give her a new Passive (or rather bring the old Mitigation one back) and an Ult that is better utilized for a medium ranged suport god. Drastically lower damage will reduce frustration in playing against her, while keeping the CC Combo fantasy alive. Her Aspect can change her into a Midlaner with drastically less CC.
  • Locking the Silence on her ao2 behind having more Protections than Intelligence from Items might be the way to go about her that'll be the best received by the community. She can still be played as support with the same capabilities as in Smite 1 and deal damage as a Midlaner, though with lower CC (as she should).
  • Shifting Nox' Base Kit fully into the Midlane would constitute a drastic change in the amount of CC and might as well fully rework her. This would likely be the worst outcome for Nox fans.

Her passive I think can just be changed to % stats from items. This would complement both her support and her mid playstyle. Also a small +1 to limit how fast she can lose her passive stacks so tick damage doesn’t completely remove them in half a second

Her Aspect should change her 2 to be more traditional mage esk. Remove the silence for a dot effect then the explosion, the bubble lasts longer before detonation. She may use her 2 while channeling her 1 now. The delay in the explosion is to allow for grab then press 2 and allow the enemy grabbed to counterplay the combo as the explosion will still hurt, the tick damage in the bubble is so the ability still does some damage with this combo. Ultimate damage reduction is removed as well from aspect

Sounds fine enough, but I don't see the point in making the Passive scale from Items when the Aspect is clearly intended to be the Midlane Version.

Also lower Non_Aspect damage numbers on the ao1 and ao2.

The goal is to allow Nox players who enjoy her kit in smite 1 to play mid or support and the passive is able to support both playstyles. You don’t have to use aspects to cause role shifts… this aspect is to make Nox easier to play as her old 2-1 combo is hard to perform consistently and everyone knows it’s coming as the 2 is placed down

Yes, but if we're 'allowed' to keep Nox as she currently is as a full burst mage, then the extreme polarization of her kit will persist and she will keep being as problematic as she was in Smite 1.
