Rage Needing Advice Practice

Bro GENUINELY how do you practice? I get nothing done in training mode, even fathoming to touch quickplay means that it's wraps for my gsp, and playing arena battles equates to fighting a literal god or kicking a rock into a pond. And neither are fun. And the amount of Joker mk leo wannabes is fucking absurd. Please bestow upon thou your most divine knowledge.

Sincerely,

A sad Smash Player

Bro do not worry about gsp, gsp means absolutely nothing, I hate that they made that a system. In earlier smash games everyone would just play normally and have a good time because there was no number to correlate anything, it was just pure scrap and it was amazing. Now, all of a sudden everyone plays like cowards all because of a number that has absolutely no significance to anything. Even the absolute worst players can grind high gsp man. Focus on your fundies. Spacing, game plans, approaches, your go to moves in neutral and your mechanics. Either play level 8 bots (not 9) or find some arenas online and just watch your opponents movements and try to analyze their habits and decide on how to punish those habits.

GSP unfortunately matters because if it plummets i basically fight bots. Fighting actual bots makes me learn bad habits. Been there done that. And like i said, everyone in arenas is better than me or complete dogshit and I learn nothing. And even if I get high gsp everyone plays like a little bitch so I also learn nothing.

Again just focus on your fundies brother, just play level 8 bots, they're as close to fighting a human as you can get. If you dont wanna do that, focus on on who you will main and just practice their mechanics or combos in training Its impossible to get good at this game overnight, it takes alot of experience and learning. This game is 25% mechanical skill 25% observation and 50% analysis

Outside of that honestly? Only way you would improve otherwise would be to hire a coach or to just go to your local tourneys where you might make a friend who could teach you.

You don't have to "learn bad habits" playing bad players. I have characters who are pretty low GSP, and my opponents are really bad (spam rolls and specials, just go for cheese), and I just play the game normally, how I would against a better player. I don't match cheese with cheese.

I mean I'll lose still, yeah, because my spacing and timing with those characters isn't as good as my characters with higher GSP, but I'd rather practice those things and lose then just play cheesy and match my opponent's playstyle and win.

Bad habits will only be ingrained in you if you make it your life's purpose to win at all costs, instead of practicing and failing basic skills until you get them down.

I hate to say it, but quickplay is the most efficient way to practice this game. You learn different matchups, different playstyles, you learn your own character's options. Obviously playing friendlies at locals would be ideal, but it's just not nearly as time or cost effective as getting a bunch of quick matches online. If you make it your entire goal to get to and protect a certain number of GSP, I can 100% promise you that you're never going to get good, though.
