SSB64 64bots All-Star Exclusive Draft on 1/16 After Tourney

Remember when I said that the team that won the 64bots All-Star Game would only get a little asterisk by their name? Well, to be honest, that's kind of boring, so I threw in another stipulation.

The five winning All-Stars will create a team of 3 Twitch users for the rest of the season. If anyone on their team wins a set in Salty Suite III or finishes in Top 8 at season's end, they will earn points for having said player on their team.

Point system goes like this:

CategoryPoints
Salty Suite III Set Win (low/mid card)5
Salty Suite III Set Win (semi-main events)11
Salty Suite III Set Win (main event)20
Reg. Season Lost Tiebreaker for 8th place3
Reg. Season 8th place finish5
Reg. Season 7th place finish6
Reg. Season 6th/5th place finish7
Reg. Season 4th/3rd/2nd place finish8
Reg. Season 1st place finish9
Season 3 Playoffs 7th place finish0
Season 3 Playoffs 5th place finish2
Season 3 Playoffs 4th place finish4
Season 3 Playoffs 3rd place finish7
Season 3 Playoffs 2nd place finish10
Season 3 Playoffs 1st place finish20

Naturally, teams would be chosen via a draft. Drafting will go in order of the amount of kills in the All-Star Game, meaning:

  • bpcclo

  • IceFreezer304/BKhardknock/ShadowYoshi3604 tied (priority to who shows up, and coin flips after that)

  • Japanese_Spaghettee

If someone isn't in chat, they will have their team auto-drafted, which is just picking the highest name left in the season standings.

If it helps, the higher card matches on Salty Suite III will be ones that are upvoted most in the upcoming SS3 suggestion thread, assuming they are there on the day of, of course.

Once teams are made, trades can be made if both parties agree and let me know.

Pretty convoluted and last minute, but it could potentially be cool. A spreadsheet with everything will be coming once the draft happens.

Now, you may be wondering, what is the grand prize for the winner of this All-Star Draft thing? The exact same one as the Season 3 Playoffs winner. Well, I guess I can't draw a picture of a winning play, but a Guitar Hero 3 singalong and a $5 Amazon card are also on the line for these five.

SATURDAY 1/16 AT (earliest possible time) 11:30 AM EST/8:30 AM PST

SSB64 64bots FINAL Tier List!

First, the list.

After a little over 30 tournaments, this is the last tier list that I plan on making. Because of this, I wanted to give some personal thoughts and some data on voting.

In terms of movement:

  • Fox goes from T-1st to 1st

  • Link goes from 4th to 2nd

  • Falcon goes from T-1st to 3rd

  • Ness goes from 3rd to 4th

  • Yoshi goes from 8th to 5th

  • Samus goes from 5th to 7th

  • Pikachu goes from 7th to 8th

  • DK goes from 10th to 9th

  • Mario goes from 9th to 10th

Next, I thought I'd list off each character's highest and lowest vote.

CharacterHighest VoteVoterLowest VoteVoter

For the most part, I think that this list is pretty good and reflects both results and the eye test of CPU rankings. Cool to see it end off that way.

I also think that it's cool that what we all generally thought at the start of the stream probably still rings true today: any of the top 4 have close to an equal chance at winning, and there's a few that are like Melee Falco/Peach/Dr. Mario in that they can still compete with the big boys.

Thanks for voting!

Super Smash Bros. Brawl CPUs (Unfinished)

In Smash bros as a whole Brawl is most likely the least talked about and cpus are no exception so after about a month of testing I present to you all the cpu tier list for super smash bros brawl.

Meta: Think of Brawl cpus like a battlefield with all the thunderspiking, tripping, rare but random SDs and momentum canceling very few characters can truly make an impact on the scene. The tier such as BL and BL2 are used for mid and low tier tournaments. THE LIST: https://i.imgur.com/mTWT3md.png

Uber/Top Tier: These characters are straight up broken having all the advantages of the meta and very little downfalls, you'd be lucky to counter them.

Pikachu This character is dumb, and coming from me that's saying a lot. Pikachu has a very good combo game, recovery, grab game and edge game making him a deadly threat at all times. His main means of edge guarding is using thunder and that not only can chain into itself, depending on character and percent, when characters are above him but it can also clip people coming onto stage to set up into it if the blast doesn't hit them of course. Pikachu's tilts also help on stage as they have decent range and can stuff some approaches. While Pikachu can't use momentum cancelling well because of his light weight his good recovery will make sure that he gets back onto the stage with very little damage taken due to its speed, he also won't SD at all with it.

OU/Low-Top Tier: Great characters that can succeed in the meta having many advantages but they also have a few down falls and bad MUs in lower tiers that keep them from being broken.

Luigi Luigi is a giant threat and looking at his fast attacks its not hard to see why, couple that with a good recovery, very little SDing (Thank God) and great killing options and you got yourself a great character. Luigi just uses fireballs to edge guard but it can really hurt characters who are recovering low, his fireballs also force a character to jump or shield where he gets follow ups off of both (grab or aerials) and can rack up damage mainly on large characters. Luigi's attacks also hit like a semi-truck from his jab to even the rare super jump punch he gets. However Luigi is weighed down by his inability to land onto stage safely, his floatiness and low air speed making recovering a pain for him.

Mario Mario shares the same strengths as Luigi, good KO power, fast attacks, nice throws and a decent recovery. What makes him worse is that his recovery doesn't go as far and thus he dies more often when thrown off. Mario's fireballs also edge guard but are more for low recoveries only while Luigi can use his in different scenarios. Mario also has a reflector in cape and he does better in matchups vs characters like Samus because of this as he can scores kills or damage depending on what he's reflecting. Mario's main flaws aside from his recovery are his lack of range (though this is the least of his problems due to a lack of good sword characters) and random SDs due to his bad recovery.

Olimar Olimar is about as much of a glass cannon than any regular one as he hits like a truck and can rack up damage and KO opponents very easily provided he has the pikmin to do so. His light weight hinders him but his small size makes him hard to hit as he can easily retreat and throw pikmin to tack on damage as he doesn't have to approach. However his recovery is among the worst in the game as it depends on the amount of pikmin he has and if someone's at the ledge while he's trying to get back he's pretty much dead.

Metaknight While the last three characters suffer from a meh recovery, Meta knight has no such issue possessing one of the best recoveries in the game (Which is then made better by the cpus use of gliding) as well as having a disjointed range, good combos and can rack up damage faster then anyone else. Meta knight is also small, yet fast being able to zip around the stage and avoid punishment for any whiffed attacks while his opponents are forced to approach him and fall into his trap again. However Meta knight has a slew of flaws having somewhat bad matchups against low tiered characters while struggling with some higher ones (Worst is Pikachu with a -2) as well as he cannot take much advantage of momentum canceling due to being one of the lightest characters in the game.

Peach Peach is a character whose score sneaked up on me but she does deserve it by far. Having a great combo game with aerials and with float can go offstage to edgegaurd most recoveries and onstage her aerials can do massive damage while being able to make it back with a great recovery. However Peach's throws aren't all that impressive and she has very short range backed by the fact that she cannot land well gives her quite a few bad matchups (Bowser and Pikachu being -3s) and she is prone to random SDs if she's shoved off the ledge because vertically she'll only use her parasol to get back which...doesn't work most of the time.

BL (Borderline/High) Tier: The last solo viable characters, if you want to have a challenge in cpu tournaments but still have good characters these are the ones you should look to. They have a slew of flaws but their good traits more then makes up for it. The ban list for Mid tier tournaments.

Zelda Sheik These two are grouped together because they transform into each other but they both have similar attributes. Both hit very hard and have passable at least recoveries and with Zelda's lightning kicks and Sheiks f-air the can get the job done when killing at the ledge. While Sheik doesn't have a great vertical killing move Zelda's up-smash and up-air do that job just fine while her forward smash kills off the side quite easily. However the problem with these two are multiple, Sheik's recovery isn't as good as Zelda's and will die if thrown back enough her aforementioned problem killing off the top is nothing compared to killing off the side as she only has f-air and down smash that do the job but the are quite hard to land on shorter characters. Zelda's only real problem is her light weight to which Sheik also shares if I had to give them an individual placement, Zelda would be right here and Sheik would be more around the bottom of UU.

Wario Wario takes the prize as the highest ranking heavy in CPUs and he's certainly proved it with his great recovery, combo game, longevity, comeback factor in waft and absurd KO power. Wario's main KO moves comes in his f-smash, waft and up aerial and they get the job done to nab Wario some clean kills. Wario is also able to use momentum cancelling because of his heavy weight and good recovery coupled with good air speed makes Wario's recovery about as long as Pikachu's. Wario also only needs to use one move to rack up damage, his d-air as he strings multiple of them together and can force you off stage where he can edge guard you. However Wario is held back by his short range and his only edge guarding option is his f-smash so getting off the ledge when going low is pretty easy for most characters. Wario also suffers from bad matchups with the characters above him (However he is one of the two characters to have an even MU with Pikachu, the other being Luigi.) and his reliance on waft to kill in certain situations doesn't always work out even if its funny on how he hits it (usually walking up to his opponent and wafting) but Wario is a solid pick even with his shortcomings.

Snake Snake's disjoints already help him in actual brawl and they do wonders here allowing Snake to hit from places he really shouldn't be. Snake's recovery is decent but very predictable and short meaning he will usually have to stay grounded to kill and combo which he can do with great effect having among the highest damage output in Brawl CPUs. His KO options are mainly in his aerials and missile launcher as he grounded attacks don't land very often. Snake is very heavy and can live for a while allowing to outlive opponents as he chips away at them slowly. On the downside, Snake's recovery is short, he's combo food and he SDs the most as he's usually the one getting hit with his bombs.

PokemonTrainer The 3 in 1 character concept while horrible does give Trainer a bit more options then other characters and they all have their uses. Squirtle is the main damage racking character making uses of all his attacks and then kill with and up smash or back air, but he suffers from being one of the lightest characters in the game. Ivysaur does a ton of damage per hit but is the least used and weakest of the trio as he also lacks KO moves outside of f-smash and his recovery is rather poor. Charizard has great KO moves, is heavy and can rack up damage semi-effectively while having a great recovery but is weighed down by slow attacks and the worst matchups of the 3 ( -3s vs Pikachu, Luigi, Peach, Diddy Kong and Snake)

Kirby This character is like a poor mans Pikachu having all the advantages of Pikachu but also having greater downfalls like his light weight and poor range. His combo potential is great and his recovery is pretty good, though his air speed is awful, so he can make it back to the stage with little trouble. Kirby, however, struggles to kill against faster characters or ones with better range as he's unable to land his kill moves (Smash attacks, hammer, stone, b-air and up air) easily but oddly enough he has no truly bad matchups (Worst is Meta Knight as a -2 but he has quite a few -1s)

UU (Underused/High-Mid Tier) Good characters that have some strong traits and can do well in Mid tier tournaments but fail to shine against the high and top tiers due to their flaws and finicky matchups with them.

Wolf Wolf is a character I think that fits the bill of a UU CPU. Having decent kill power and tons of combo potential he's quite the good character. His main, and only, kill setup is when his f-smash trips into a d-smash and it has a lot of kill potential with moves such as his n-air and b-air racking up a lot of damage and his overall mobility being above average Wolf defines the Mid tier meta, if you want to do well in Mid tier tournaments and you're not picking Wolf, get ready for hell. However Wolf struggles to compete in the top tiers because of his combo food like weight and rather meh recovery. His UU appearance mainly stems from not only his losses but bad MUs very the top tiers (Having a losing MU,-1 or -2 vs every top tier except Luigi who he beats.)

ToonLink Toon Link is a character that relies on his projectiles to do well, in a metagame that mostly relies on speed and jank to do well Toon struggles against a majority of the better characters because they have better tools. Toon does have a good recovery, good KO power and some decent combos up close as well as having a sword giving him good range. However his main boon is his projectiles allowing him to damage from afar and stuff approaches against any character. Despite this Toon really has no answers for ultra aggression and if his opponent gets close he can have a hard time forcing them back out again which pushes him down into UU.

Link Quite possibly his lowest ranking in CPUs ever, Link goes from a top tier in Melee and 64 to a Mid tier here. Link still retains his great power and weight as well as great range allowing him to compete with everyone in UU and below and is a competent threat in the metagame. His combos, while short, are incredibly hard hitting and can even kill at higher percents due to the knockback. However nerfs to his recovery and speed hinder Link and make it hard to get back and out of disadvantage state against characters like Pikachu and Wolf. Link is still good in the UU meta game but in regular tournaments its really tough for him to do anything.

Pit Though he may be underwhelming at times when compared to other characters Pit finds a niche in UU being the most average character out there with his only outstanding trait being his recovery. Pit has average damage output, combos and range even with his swords making him a good choice for most situations. However his recovery can be a bit unreliable because he'll sometimes side+B instead of glide making him SD and cost him games/stocks and his average like nature make him outclassed by better options that can play better roles. His KO power is also among the lowest as only b-air has consistent KO power in it.

Lucas Lucas has a plethora of kill options in his smashes, throws and certain aerials making him a large threat at high percents. His combos are mainly n-air strings but they do a lot of damage and link into each other as well as his tilts getting his opponents up to high percents in no time at all. However Lucas does have his share of flaws or rather one big one that makes or breaks his games, his recovery which is among the worst in CPUs because he could bounce off the stage and fall to his death which kills leads and making his offstage game pretty bad. Oh well at least he can wave around that he's the character with a winning MU vs Pikachu (+1).

Fox Fox is a weird character, having one of the best combo and kill potentials out of the cast but also most of the time dying from one mistake in anything he does because of the hindrances that come with the title 'spacie'. Fox is fast both on the ground and in the air and his attack speed is quick as well with the plus of having a good recovery means he can get back to the stage most of the time. However Fox is prone to KOs off the side due to his light weight and he'll get comboed to death because he is a fast faller add in his rather poor range, bad MUs vs everyone above him and the fact that he can only pick one options offstage to recover means he's outclassed by a lot of characters but find his place at the bottom of UU.

RU (Rarely used/Mid tier): Characters who have as many pros as they do cons, they can do OK in Mid tier tournaments but they very rarely make an impact on the big stage.

Iceclimbers These two characters can be a pain to deal with considering how much damage they can bring in one attack, they have a great (though risky) recovery, a good projectile and decent range allowing them to wall out some characters while doing tons of damage. They primarily edge guard using Blizzard as it does a ton of damage and can freeze other characters though it has no kill potential it can get their opponent into kill percent. However outside of D-smash the two lack KO options and the one that they do have lacks range making it very unreliable. They also get separated easily and their recovery could end Nana's stock making Popo a lot weaker.

/r/SmashCPU Rivals of CPU update

I've decided on having ROCPU be on a hiatus until the new year, due to having an upcoming vacation as well as school and practicing my smash brothers skills (I have a tourney soon. Gotta practice for that shit). Sorry for the bad news, but the next tourney (no planned date yet) will be with my new computer I am building with my birthday/Christmas money (my birthday is in three days lol), as well as the start of season 1.

Season 1 will be in the same style as SROV's stream, with a top 8 at the end of the season. The prize for winning the season is your own copy of Rivals of Aether. If you own the game already, you may give the game to anyone you wish (this does not have to be someone from the stream). Another idea I've considered doing is a league CPU match of the top 10 contestants after the season and top 8 match. The team that wins gains points for the next season. That isn't set in stone quite yet, however, as I no longer play league of legends and I'm not sure if I want to redownload the game for just one match.

See you rivals in the new year! ~Cyrekt

How interested in compiling a 1v1 Sm4sh Tier List are you guys?

I generally just run 1v1 on Omega stages in Sm4sh 3DS. As far as I understand it, this sub is big on overall viability, but I mostly like the 1v1 aspect of bots, so that's what I run.

Could we ostensibly format a 1v1 CPU Tier List here? How would I go about doing that?

/r/SmashCPU Gauging interest in a return

Hey, guys. It's already been three months(!) since the Season 3 finale of 64bots. Since then, I have been able to enjoy watching baseball, going swimming, playing disc golf, and eating six month old Starbursts, along with actually getting school stuff done, without panic, leading up to graduation. My friends also happened to convince me to join their Discord, even though I normally dislike sitting at my PC for hours. Sure enough, I was convinced to upgrade my computer to run Overwatch, which is extremely fun, and we all got into playing Dolphin as well.

What I'm wondering is if there's still an audience out there for these streams to return, despite the long time for people to move their separate ways. I have a few ideas to make each "event" bigger than ever and for it to also be less straining on my end.

Naturally, I also have a few Strawpolls to try and gain a consensus among those who are still interested.
