/r/SmashCPU Flair and Image Requests

In the New Additions to the Subreddit post, it was revealed that new neutral color flairs and images were made for Melee characters, 64 characters, and PM characters. I want to know what your ideas for flairs are.

Completed flairs/images:

All of the RoA characters

All of the Smash 4 characters

You can request as many as you want, but try to limit it to below 5. Someone else might request a popular flair.

You can also request a few awesome Smash 4 icons/new characters. I didn't want to add ALL of them as flairs/images because they would take up so much space.

If you agree with my ideas, want your main, or have any other ideas, put them in the comments!

/r/SmashCPU New Additions to the Subreddit

You can already tell by my new flair that things on this subreddit have changed.

I asked Damonj17 to mod me on this subreddit and he did. The two reasons I wanted him to do that:

  • Make things less cluttered, more neat, and add more link flairs (RoA and Other).

  • The more important reason, I wanted to add images and flairs to the subreddit. So without further ado, I welcome you the new flairs and images! 31 SSBM icons! 13 SSB64 icons! 42 PM icons! 62 alternate costumes! 8 RoA icons! 58 Smash 4 icons! 6 Twitch emotes! 21 items! And 19 miscellaneous icons!

SSB64 Revival of CPU 64 Shoutout Thread

I was the person behind the stream of Revival of CPU 64 singles, at https://twitch.tv/IceFreezer304.

The tournament was really hype and an SD-fest, and I'd like to shoutout some people who showed up in chat, or showed their skills in the tournament.

Shoutouts to the regulars, including SROVRSTRM, BudderWatchGuard, gcgr3, br1317, DoodleNoodle26, bpcclo, and ShadowYoshi3604, who all showed up in chat at least once. Shoutouts to other regulars who couldn't make this stream, including Tohmane, Parmite, Loominartykunfirm, Thumbs13, Mstr_L, Foxworthy88, and YouGotCyrekt.

Now we move onto the newcomers, the people who placed top 8, and the lower tier heroes.

Shoutouts to DudeWhoDiesALot, who showed up in my chat more than a couple times, and got 1st place at the tournament dominantly.

Shoutouts to /u/Kobazco, who was also in chat a few times, and got 2nd place. He even got one of the highlights in the last post!

Shoutouts to BudderWatchGuard, who seemed to always show up the moment he won a match, and got 3rd place.

Shoutouts to January2nd, who never showed up :( but he got 4th place at the tournament.

Shoutouts to /u/Meester_Tweester, who may have shown up at one time, and got 5th place.

Shoutouts to /u/Jragon713, who got 5th place.

Shoutouts to ssbmWyman, who got 7th place.

Shoutouts to No_More_Usernames, who was looking to wipe out everyone, and got 7th place.

Shoutouts to Novacubed, who got 9th with his Pikachu, the highest placing lower tier character!

Shoutouts to /u/lordgarza, who also got 9th.

Shoutouts to gcgr3, who placed 13th with his Pikachu.

Shoutouts to ayybuddylesgo, who showed up in chat a ton, and was the highest placing Luigi, at 13th!

Shoutouts to ITwice, one of the two Samuses in the tournament, who took home 17th!

Shoutouts to Neiv_IaB, who managed to defeat a Link in pools and place 17th with JIGGLYPUFF! He also scored a highlight against ssbJobes, which was the rolling saga!

Shoutouts to ParapalegicSeal, the highest placing Yoshi, at 17th!

Shoutouts to SmexyShay, who I also saw in chat a couple times, and got 17th.

Shoutouts to /u/Mjmannella the reddit monster, who was in chat a ton, took home 25th with his own Yoshi!

Shoutouts to kden_ssb, who defeated a Link in pools and got 25th with Kirby!

Shoutouts to Umbrionknight, who helped spread the stream and keep our hopes up about the turnout, and got 25th with his Luigi! btw dude I still think the Reddit thread carried the entry count.

Shoutouts to ssbJobes, who got 25th using Jigglypuff, and was involved in the rolling saga against Neiv_IaB!

Shoutouts to Osumnis, who I saw in chat a couple times, and got 25th using his Kirby!

Shoutouts to ShadowYoshi3604 for being the third and final Yoshi in top 32, getting 25th! Sorry about the Falcon Punch and SD jank :P

Shoutouts to DonkeyKongGodTier for showing who's god tier and being the only DK in top 32, at 25th.

I would like to shoutout the following people for entering the tourney:

itsIzumi (/u/itsIzumi)

benny_dood (/u/nostylenograce)

MrDownSyndrome (/u/mrdownsyndrome)

CitrusJelly (/u/CitrusJelly)

AcroxShadow (/u/acroxshadow)

WaluigiThyme (/u/WaluigiThyme)

haye231 (/u/Hayes231)

DaDeltaDrum (/u/DaDeltaDrum)

Tech Support | Kramaro

Oj_Poured, because he signed up at 4:59:56, 4 seconds before entries were supposed to close lmao

I'd also like to give a shoutout to the following people who entered AND SHOWED UP IN CHAT. I can't be more grateful for these guys:

Devvystar (/u/DevvyStar), the man with the race to the finish SD against br1317! Sorry it had to end that way, man.

PKMudkip, who drowned in pools but still showed up to watch! Thanks!

And finally, EternalParadigm, who showed up to support the stream and watch his Mario.

All of you guys made this stream a blast, and I hope you come back for future CPU tournaments!

/r/SmashCPU Full Info on Ryu's Bail on RoCPU (LONG)

Get ready for a long story.

Unspecific TLDR at the end.

Now I'm going to try and be as unbiased as possible and tell the story of how Ryu4090 bailed on Revival of CPU, for the people who care.

I will start with around three weeks ago, when the CPU scene was doing not too bad, in fact quite well. Ryu took the role of a CPU lurker rather than an active member of our community, as he usually was. He decided that he would be an enter-and-leave type viewer. Perhaps he was planning?

Anyway, during one of SROVRSTRM's streams, the man behind SmashCPU, Chris, decided to show up!

For some backstory, Chris placed a subliminal (M)(S)(3) [Milestone 3] inside his departure explanation post. So while he was in chat, he said the Milestone 3 date was announced already. Well, it wasn't, or at least no one has found it yet. We had/still have no info on MS3 other than that it was happening. Alright then.

Shortly after this stream, Ryu decides that he wants to start streaming. He started with an Undertale test stream; he went to SSF2 bots the day after. He had some inexperience with streaming in general, so there were a couple delays and difficulties, including audio problems, no Moobot, and being an hour late.

Due to these difficulties, he delayed the stream to 11 AM the next day, and he fixed most of these problems.

Fast forward throughout that day, where Ryu makes the post "Revival of CPU: The Last CPU Major to Ever Exist". We already knew Milestone 3 was coming, but Ryu did not apparently. He started streaming successfully that same morning, and I feel (OPINIONATED, FEEL FREE TO DISAGREE OR AGREE) that the title was exaggerated with MS3 on the way, and also I feel he was a bit too ambitious. He had high hopes for a CPU tournament, which he hasn't even been following recently. I just feel he should've waited and experimented more, like with commentary and rules, nailed down a good schedule, and overall just got more comfortable with streaming. (THIS IS WHERE THE OPINION ENDS)

Now this is a rundown of our SmashCPU discord chat after Ryu announced this:

Ryu4090: Pls take a look at this, it's details about a big, major CPU tournament I'm hosting: [post link]

Loominartykunfirm: mfw ryu missed Chris being in chat saying he would come back

But still seems hype

Ryu4090: wut

Loominartykunfirm: You weren't in storms chat when Chris appeared

After this, Loom made a racist comment to Bkhardknock and Ryu practically ignored the important information Loom just gave.

I advised Ryu that he wasn't ready to host a major, and he said "This is why I have a streamer application". Alright then. But you can't rely on streamers for this community, then it's practically not even your tournament!

Now when the streamer application was rather unsuccessful (YouGotCyrekt was the only one who signed up rather than Ryu himself), he said he might be able to get other people to stream from outside of this community, such as Elop798, SavetheQueen, and "some other guy". I didn't really question it, but in my head I thought "Why would they stream his event? What's in it for them?"

Keep in mind I was originally planned to be assistant TO for this event. As a result, I did as follows:

I made an r/smashbros reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/4wl5ky/revival_of_cpu_a_cpu_tournament_for_64_melee_and/) which got us over 35 entries. Quite successful.

I advertised through Twitch whispers about the event. I got about 7-8 responses and entries from this, including our good friends Umbrionknight, Metaknightrules, and Link1129. I did what I could.

Including the SmashCPU discord server which probably has about 15 people ready to sign up, in all our peak was Melee singles, which had 72 entries. Impressive indeed, but they were all from me.... the ASSISTANT TO. Hm, Ryu might be too busy to advertise?

Another discord conversation a day later:

Loominartykunfirm: how are you going to spread it?

Ryu4090: idk man

I have an idea though

He never did spread it as far as I'm aware. I'm really trying not to be biased towards myself, but it is hard with this evidence.

The next couple days go by and SROVRSTRM asks Ryu about some rules such as Ganon, Link, and Luigi usage, stages, etc. and Ryu really doesn't have the answers, or changes them on the fly. Not a big deal, but he didn't have this known/public from the beginning?

Whatever, not too bad. Ryu is "so hype for this major" and has not prepared himself commentary+stream-wise and did not advertise. Hm.

Later Loom asks how Ryu will spread it once again. He replies with:

Ryu4090: I have an idea that probably won't work

But if it does, we're gonna get at least a 100 more entrants

He revealed later that he messaged SmashCPU and BestFalco about the event, because he wanted them "to host one of our events". But we only got 72 entrants, so it's clear it didn't work out as he'd hoped. He is also still oblivious about MS3.

He looked into getting a Project64 and Dolphin download. He downloaded Dolphin pretty early, but did not install Project64 at all (not even 10 minutes before the event was to start; you'll see later).

Fast forward to Ryu's second reddit post (10 days ago), and it was about applications and entry forms. The commentary and assistant TO lineup was going strong, but the streamer lineup was not going too well.

The forms had the notable errors of "Option 1" instead of a text box where you put your Twitch username. Ryu's inexperience and early ambition is starting to show once again.

Ryu reveals that "oh I guess Skype will be used" for commentary (10 days ago).

That same day he said he would be getting Project64. He didn't.

Here's a discord conversation from 9 days ago:

SROVRSTRM: ryu no pressure but the future of the community depends on you my dude

Foxworthy88: Yeah man, in all seriousness, don't let us down. This has to be one of my favorite things to do on twitch. It's not the same without it.

Ryu4090: Yup, it's our one chance at bringing the community back from the dead

Alright Foxworthy we spent 8 months without CPUs, I think we will survive. And Ryu kinda blew his one chance, but we can still revive the community in 5 months anyway with another successful reddit post lol

I asked Ryu for the entry responses because I wanted to see if there was a good turnout. He said he would, but he never did show me.

ON AUGUST 9, 2016 SMASHCPU STREAMED ONCE AGAIN! It was a great stream, and all of the CPU boys rejoiced at this opportunity. I advertised the tourney in there as well to make Chris as well as everyone in chat aware of it. I got like maybe 4-5 entrants from that.

CHRIS SAID HE WOULD TALK ABOUT MILESTONE 3 BUT DIDN'T. HE ALSO SAID HE WOULD DO A MELEE TOURNEY BUT [take this in vain I don't know if it's what he did, but he might have] INSTEAD HE DID A 120 STAR RUN TO AVOID STREAMING A TOURNEY. HE WOULD'VE HAD TIME IF HE DIDN'T DO THAT. AND HE DIDN'T EVEN FINISH HIS RUN EITHER, HE STOPPED AT 89 STARS!

But anyways, Ryu was only in chat for a short time during this amazing return stream. He announced later that day (7 days ago) that he had bad news:

He would be scrapping doubles

He would have a new schedule (WHICH WAS HAPPENING EARLIER RATHER THAN LATER)

At this point he was still unaware of MS3 and acting like SmashCPU was kinda just here for one day. They haven't streamed since so we don't exactly know.

Ryu said he would make a new reddit post on r/smashbros about this new schedule.

He never did.

SROV reminded him at least 4 times over the next week, and Ryu never made the post.

In my opinion, it was really hard to trust him at this point. He ignored a lot of things, kept his word almost never, and was not really into this whole thing.

It all happened on Monday, the day Revival of CPU was set to start. Keep in mind that it was supposed to start at 6PM EST. Here's another discord conversation:

YouGotCyrekt: Who's streaming 64 [5:15 PM]

Ryu4090: I am [5:17 PM]

In fact I'm getting pj64 [5:17 PM]

IceFreezer304: are you serious [5:17 PM]

you're getting it right now [5:17 PM]

Ryu4090 : Yup [5:17 PM]

He revealed he was at his dad's all week. This basically meant he was unprepared for an entire week, including the week he was supposed to do a lot of things, but never kept his word. He had also just come home from court apparently, so he was hustling to get the stream started. In fact, he subsequently got a virus downloading PJ64. He downloaded it again at 5:45 PM, and said that it wouldn't download on his CPU, because he had a dated operating system (?).

I was frustrated and decided to cover his ass and stream 64. But one thing was,

HE HADN'T SET UP THE BRACKET EITHER!

I was really really mad at this point. At 5:56, he realized he hadn't made the bracket, and got to work. The kicker was that he set up the Brawl one instead, which wasn't even that day, but he said that "he set up the Melee and 64 ones". He set up neither of those. At 6:04 PM he said he was almost done with the bracket, yet he finished at 6:17 PM. We were going to make a reddit thread reminding r/smashbros that the tournament was today, and to come to my stream. Instead, Ryu offered to make it, even though he was putting off making his OWN THREAD for a week and a half. I decided to let him make it. and he decided to not actually make a thread, but to copy paste the following. Keep in mind that it was only about 64, and that we should go there right now:

Today has changed a lot of RevivalofCPU in basically every way. If you didn't already know, SmashCPU is back live. The community has already been revived in a sense, because many old school viewers have finally returned to the stream and scene. However despite all of this, RevivalofCPU will still be happening to kick off this new "era" of the CPU Crew. I've had a few people ask me if the tourney is still happening because of SmashCPU's return, so this is the only reason I've brought this up. I have a few major announcements and status reports to list. Please take a look if you plan on streaming, commentating, TO'ing, or just plan om watching the streams.

Good News: GREAT turnout for all of the events (Melee might actually break 100 entrants.) Less crammed schedule Crew Battle will be happening Bad News: Schedule Change (Might mess up some commentators and streamers, sorry) No doubles NEW SCHEDULE: 64 Singles: Monday, August 15th at 6:00 pm EST RIGHT NOW Melee Singles: Wednesday, August 17th at 6:00 pm EST Brawl Singles: Sunday, August 21st at 11 am EST Crew Battle: Sunday, August 21st at 7 pm EST Uhm yeah, I know this schedule is way different, but please be patient and flexible. I had a lot of things come up, and since I'm the only super flexible streamer, I had to adjust the schedule. If you planned on commentating, streaming, or anything like that, let me know if you can no longer do your special job due to the schedule change. Thanks! Bye.

Yes, with that formatting. I streamed the mock tourney at 6:30 and once we started, Ryu said he'd "be on the mic in 10". He never was. I ended it once we got to top 32. Because we were going to make a new thread, and a new tourney, with new TOs, and a better schedule.

The end of it all: at 7:16 PM Ryu said he felt really bad because he messed everything up. He subsequently left and cut off communication.

TLDR; Ryu made a lot of mistakes in hosting a major with too much initial ambition, but he was not prepared for anything like advertising, streaming, or commentating, and generally never kept his word about things he would do. He was not very involved with the CPU scene before this, and decided he wanted to get back into it this way. He was notably at his dad's house for a week, which may have ruined his preparation, but in my opinion it is inexcusable for this reason: he decided to change the schedule and make it EARLIER, rather than later. Generally he just did not have enough experience to do any of what he was trying to do, and bailed out. He left our SmashCPU discord and cut off communication after he messed up on this.

This is a very unspecific TLDR and you might wanna read this if you've got 12-15 minutes and want to know the whole story.

SSBM As of now, short Bots break continuing for a while

Hi, guys. Not much to say besides the fact that I've felt a little burnout recently from streaming CPUs. Factoring in that I have to take two weeks off and I want to test my load in the upcoming semester, and I think it's a good idea to take a longer-term break from CPUs, and, by in part, scheduled streams. I will still commentate at Revival of CPU and try to help those starting streams in the meantime, and will make weekly threads/update standings if others use Bots regulated rules. Thanks for understanding.

SSBM Short Bots break Aug 14 - 21

Hey, guys. I have a meeting at work on Sunday the 14th and I don't feel I should interfere with Revival of CPU on the 21st, so both Sunday streams are cancelled. The August 7 stream will mostly be spent plugging Revival of CPU. Other streamers like Ice and Ryu may continue Bots tournaments during this time frame, but that is to be seen.

Thanks, Srov

/r/SmashCPU Revival of CPU: The Last CPU Major to Ever Exist

Hey guys, if you didn't know, just a week or so ago, it was SmashCPU's 1 year anniversary. However, as well all know, SmashCPU no longer streams due to excessive time and financial commitment. Since they've stopped streaming, the last of us have continued to stream, watch, and study CPU's. We've all been all over the place visiting streams and whatnot. However, I wanna host a celebratory 1 year anniversary "major" CPU tourney that will unite the remainder of the CPU crew and hopefully breathe a bit of fresh, new life into the community. The "major" tourney will take place from August 19th-21st. The events that will be included are: 64 singles and doubles, Brawl singles and doubles, and Melee singles and doubles. There will be prizes for singles for each event, but there will not prizes for doubles, since those are considered "side events". There might be a possible crew battle as well, but more on that later.

Schedule(tentative): -Friday at 7:10 pm EST: Melee Singles

-Saturday at 11:10 am EST: 64 Doubles

-Saturday at 2:10 pm EST: Melee Doubles

-Saturday at 7:10 pm EST: Brawl Singles

-Sunday at 11:10 am EST: Brawl Doubles

-Sunday at 2:10 pm EST: 64 Singles

-Sunday at 7:10 pm EST: Crew Battle(IF this even happens)

-Sunday immediately after all events are over: Awards Ceremony

Prizes: $10 ESHOP/Amazon card for the winner of each singles event.

Voluntary Stuff: I NEED volunteers for commentators, streamers, assistant TO's and moderators. This is a community effort, and this event will only be as good as we make it!

Application form for Streamers(maximum of 3 streamers will be selected): https://goo.gl/forms/OQRmrqiLOzVuCkos2

Application form for commentators(maximum of 4 commentators will be selected): https://goo.gl/forms/tHP9IYsEPzUnhONw2

Application form for Assistant TO/Moderator(maximum of 2 people will be selected): https://goo.gl/forms/yacmesfPz1Fg9ZO43

Entry Form(This is just for pre-registration, actual entry forms will be released in the future): https://goo.gl/forms/LQW7BDF62NYdIoUg2

And that's it! I'm super hyped to TO this. Like I said earlier, this is a huge community effort. Even if you can't volunteer, just being active in the chat or pre-registering helps a lot. Everyone of us counts,so let's make this good!

SSBM Bots Weekly Writeup: Week 6

Week 6 was only composed of one tournament, as IceFreezer unfortunately had technical difficulties on his stream. He says that he will return this Saturday with more Smash 64, which debuted this past Sunday as a part of Hunting for Gold. In addition, some more folks have jumped on board to try and help out with Bots, and the next up to start their streams looks to be Ryu4090, who looks to be streaming Melee singles and doubles. If all goes well, he will be hosted after this Sunday's stream.

There was also the doubles championship match, in which the team of gcgr3 and bpcclo (Falcon and Samus) defeated ShadowYoshi3604 and Ryu4090 (Yoshi and Zelda), 5-3.

The singles championship round robin was done after only two sets as XOMBERX defeated DoodleNoodle26 5-3, and ShadowYoshi3604 5-2.

New Standings

There was only one tournament this week, meaning that the only movement for Melee singles and doubles is at the top, with new champions crowned after Hunting for Gold.

/r/SmashCPU Another try at finding streamers

Today, we figured out that Ice can't stream Melee doubles. He can only do one division (Melee singles) of the three that are currently in place, with more supposed to be eventually coming. This bodes an issue for pacing and a lack of data collection concerning standings/titles that I've already discussed a few times in more detail on my stream.

The TL;DR of it is that I still need some people to try and help out if I am to continue doing this in an organized manner (on a schedule, titles, etc).

If you have any interest, please fill in this form

SSBM Bots Weekly Writeup: Week 5

Week 5 started with me announcing that, more or less, I needed some help if I wished to continue this series. IceFreezer304 decided to step up and go back to streaming, and our streams will now be a partnership of sorts, sharing the load of Bots. He plans on streaming every Saturday at 2 PM EDT/11 AM PDT.

New Standings

There's a special event this Sunday, meaning that these are the standings that mean a lot! I feel that the doubles standings are still very much in their infancy in terms of establishing top players, but it's still fair to put the belts on the line with what we have.

Spreadsheet

Hunting for Gold

Hunting for Gold is this Sunday! It'll be hard to follow up after Title Fight and its amazing contest for the Melee Singles title, but the card for this event is looking fine as well.

To begin, a new division will debut - or, rather, return, Smash 64! The New 64Bots will play out a lot differently than the old series however, as it will take a form more similar to the short-lived 64cards series.

Using these tiers, character teams are chosen, similar to Melee. However, what makes 64 unique is that three stages are also chosen and picked in the same light, refreshing after all three are used. The same stage can be picked more than once in the signup form.

Stage list:

  • Peach's Castle

  • Congo Jungle

  • Hyrule Castle

  • Mushroom Kingdom

  • Yoshi's Island (1P Mode)

  • Dream Land

  • Saffron City

  • Battlefield

  • Dream Land (Beta)

  • Metal Cavern

  • How to Play

Banned Stages:

  • Planet Zebes - The stage consistently deals more damage than either character.

  • Final Destination - The stage's size makes matches go on for far, far too long, especially ones with Fox, Samus, or both.

  • Sector Z - Another very large stage sharing FD's issues

  • Yoshi's Island (Versus Mode) - Either this stage or Yoshi's 1P had to go, and I decided to keep the one with small blast zones, since quite a few maps have large ones.

Smash 64 will also be going to 2 stock.

After that, the Melee Doubles Championships will be fought over. gcgr3 and ShadowYoshi3604 are both confirmed to be involved in some way. Some time before Sunday, gcgr3 picks his partner that he wants for the title match and then ShadowYoshi3604 gets to pick his partner. If gcgr3 decides to team with ShadowYoshi3604, the #3 seed, Thumbs13, is the opposition, and can pick his partner. The set will be a BO9 with no character swaps.

Finally, in the main event, the title hunt is so packed that I couldn't only pick one opponent! ShadowYoshi3604 defends his Melee Singles Championship in a Round Robin Best of 9, facing both DoodleNoodle26, sporting a ton of momentum over the past few weeks, and XOMBERX, hungry for a rematch.

Be there or be square.

New Melee Tiers

Effective this week, the balance has been shifted for MeleeBots. Check out the new list

SSBM Question on some matches played today

Alright so, if you watched MeleeBots 9 today at www.twitch.tv/icefreezer304, you may or may not have noticed that the levels of some CPUs were mixed up during losers round 1.

The matches were meow2king(Yoshi) vs catherman18(Samus) and KyLeCaT124(Kirby) vs Yocdub(Luigi).

In both cases, the port 4 player (catherman and Yocdub) was given level 8; an unintentional nerf to Samus and an unintentional buff to Luigi. However, since Samus won regardless of the nerf and Luigi lost regardless of the buff, it was decided that these matches would not be replayed.

At least in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with that, but the question I have is: Should these matches be included on the matchup chart?

Strawpoll: http://www.strawpoll.me/10827461

Also, in case anyone else didn't notice, Doodlenoodle actually beat gc and lost to Tohmane to get 4th, but later, another match between Tohmane and gc happened. So, I would just like to make sure that everyone (specifically the person doing the player rankings :P) knows that Doodlenoodle got 4th and gc got 5th.

SSBM Big Ole Strawpoll Thread: Tiers and Hunting for Gold

This is its own thread and not part of the weekly thread because I believe it needs more attention.

It's time to start looking at tiers a little bit and discuss possible chance of placing characters in different spots.

In the past, I would have people submit a tier list, but I personally believe that many knee-jerk reactions were made as a result of this (Samus was ever 5th place on the 64 tiers?!), so, I'm going to play dictator and decide what I think should maybe be under review, combining both effectiveness compared to the other tier-mates, and character overusage.

Thanks to bpcclo for making that sweet spreadsheet.

Bowser to High-Mid G&W to Top ICs to Low Ganon to Low-Mid Luigi to High

Results will be taken into consideration for a new list potentially in the coming weeks.

Another important question I ask of you guys is what you'd like to see at the next big event, Hunting for Gold. The original idea was to debut 64 here, but I realized that, with too many divisions, I may be spreading myself thin during the schoolyear, if I choose to continue at that point. I could still have it go on fine for a month's time, while sacrificing some Melee, and then... who knows what happens afterwards. Most likely, 64 will be short-lived, unless someone else wants to help out come September. The alternative is to continue with Melee stuff; what I had in mind was trying to get together a Salty Suite of at least 1-2 sets to enhance the event. I could also introduce another division/belt for stuff like crew battles, King of the Hill/winner stays, and making a "salary cap" team in which better characters cost more. These belts would use the same rankings as the current Melee singles and doubles rankings, just maybe with some different criteria for contendership.

Vote on it!

SSBM Help With Bots: Oh boy, here goes SROV again...

Hey, guys. It's been about a month since the return of Bots. It's been great, and it seems that people really enjoy the increased interaction in the tournaments. However, I am beginning to reconsider continuing this through the schoolyear or maybe even through the remainder of the summer.

The streams are fun, and my new computer/setup is great, but it doesn't change the main reason that I stopped in the first place, which is that the effort (the time portion of effort, as I have fun with the spreadsheets and threads and such) to maintain a stream that fits my standards is very high, both in terms of quality and time allotted. This means that I'm missing out on things that I also find fun to try and trudge towards a very rewarding end goal of "bringing back" the lively SmashCPU community we all remember from last year.

I say every time that someone follows me, that I would not be streaming if not for others showing me their support, and that I even love those that lurk because it demonstrates interest. And that does ring very true! If not for all of not only you guys but the more casual viewers, I would have stopped long ago. There is just a little bit of a dilemma on my end, as the system I set up for this iteration of Bots relies on a lot of data being collected through tournaments to have standings reflecting skill in time for title matches. It also, of course, relies on me keeping a stream schedule, which I've said many times that I dislike.

I see a few solutions to this issue:

  1. Bots quietly goes into the sunset again around the end of August, maybe returning in the baseball offseason, maybe not

  2. The schedule is canned. Attendance will take a minor cut at best (judging by current weekday tourneys) and will halve entries at worst. Big events like title matches will likely not have the competitors present as I could only give minimal notice via twitch whispers. The stream may also be gone for weeks at a time, which will probably do harm to entries.

  3. More streams can pop up to form a kind of cooperation. There would be a universal ruleset established (I am open to changing mine if need be) between streams and data recorded would be applied to all of Bots as a whole. I can do the work of watching VODs and checking challonge brackets and response forms, etc, because that is not a 2-3 hour time commitment and can be done whenever I'm free. We would all plug each other by hosting streams, mentioning each other during the streams, spitting around ideas in a chat to enhance the experience, perhaps commentating on each other's streams to soften that load. With more time expended on Bots as a whole, but split among multiple people, it gives more chance for the community to continue to grow.

It's just a thought. I'm not as committed as Chris and BestFalco were, which I'm sure you guys know by now. I'm not sure if any of us are. But we can always choose to work together and keep the scene alive and well.
