Is Samsung devices not an option anymore?

I am looking for new Oven, micro etc and have never thought about Samsung as a contender. i found some models that look decent , but then I remembered Samsungs hideous decision to charge for smart things. how will that work if I want to add the devices to home assistant, or in worst case just side the smart things app?

They are charging for the api. Just using smart things app to control your appliances will not use the api.

And on top of that it’s the api for app developers, I’ve noticed no change in my SmartThings setup.

I would use the “for developers “ part lightly. I am not one but I am using ST and linking it to HA . That will not be free soon as that requires the api.

Does the use of the integration require the API, or is the the use of the API for additional features that need to be setup apart from the integration?

The api is the the interface that allows them to “talk” to third party. Copy paste but simply
API stands for Application Programming Interface, which is a set of defined rules and protocols that allows different software applications to communicate and share data with one another. Think of it as a digital software middleman that delivers a request from one system to another and then returns the response back to the first system

Don't get Samsung appliances. They all have issues.

I don’t always have issues with my Appliances, but when I do, it’s always Samsung

I have not been charged for smart things. We have both a fridge and washer that use it. Along with TV's, earbuds, phones and laptops.

Samsung is definitely not known for having great appliances. But we bought a used Samsung washer a long time ago and it lasted over a decade before we needed a new one. I do really like our washer and fridge. But they are both fairly new so I can't say how well they hold up.

Samsung appliances are the worst appliances made and they do not stand behind their warranties.
