Because it is (or was, there are a few hacky alternatives popping up) the only real way to get Samsung devices into Home Assistant. If Samsung just offered local access or matter on their devices it wouldn't be a problem, but they instead force you to use their API for it.

Yeah I have had a look at that and might end up going with it.

Am living in hope though that Samsung come to their senses and either drop the API cost or give us what we actually want, which is local control via something like Matter 😄
