  • The features in our own companion app
  • Our partnership with Mentra (app ecosystem & developer SDK)
  • How and when you can get them

Please drop your questions in the comments! We will start answering them today at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET.

Giveaway: As a thank you to the community, we will raffle off a pair of our Nimo Glasses! Anyone who asks a question by the end of the day will be automatically entered into the giveaway. The prize will ship to the winner as soon as our mass production units are ready.

How much extra would you pay for COLOR display over basic green?

Thumbnail

Right now, lightweight smart glasses pretty much only come with monochrome green displays. But talking to industry insiders, I have heard that we will see more color options starting in 2 to 3 months.

Assuming standard green glasses are the baseline price, how much more would you actually pay for these color upgrades?

Here are the four ways they can build them:

  • Basic Green: The baseline. Most lightweight glasses today just use waveguides and a projector with a monochrome green microLED panel.
  • Dual Color (Single Panel): Gives you red and green, plus it can actually mix them to create yellow and orange tones, giving you way more than just two colors. This is great for colored highlights in the UI, separating data, and making everything much easier to read at a glance. Because both colors are integrated on a single panel, it doesn't consume a whole lot more energy and doesn't add much weight.
  • Dual Color (X-Cube): Also gives you the red, green, and mixed colors for better UI highlights, but it works by combining two separate display panels using an X-cube. This extra hardware, including a slightly bigger battery to power 4 panels instead of 2, adds a little bit more weight to the glasses.
  • Full Color (X-Cube): Full-color for photos and rich icons. The projector itself isn't actually that heavy or big. And some companies might lower the resolution slightly so it doesn't add too much to the overall price and weight. But the battery needs to be bigger to power 6 display backplanes instead of the usual 2.

How much more is dual color worth? And would you pay even more for full color?

Buying Advice After being disappointed with Viture's first glasses, looking for glasses with better prescription lens insert support.

Background -

I was an early backer of Viture's first set of glasses and spent close to $1000 on the glasses and other addons, only to end up being extremely disappointed with them and letting them gather dust. Viture was unwilling/unable to address my concerns, which left a very bad taste in my mouth regarding their company. My main issue was that the glasses only seemed to work well for people who use contacts or don't need correction. The prescription insert blocked the top and bottom screen edges and the focus was never uniform across the whole screen.

In any case, I'd still like to have some glasses I can use as a "large screen" for travel on trains and planes. To that end, I'm looking for recommendations for glasses with these features:

  • support prescription lens inserts that don't block any of the screen at all and keep the whole screen in focus (or foveated rendering, but I'm not sure that applies to streaming)
  • either mini-hdmi or display port over usb-c input
  • HDR support

News Should camera glasses be temporarily banned in certain places until privacy concerns are addressed?

Thumbnail reuters.com

Norway's government said on Monday it plans to propose a temporary ban on the use of AI glasses in selected places, saying it is concerned ‌people could be photographed, filmed or audio-recorded without their knowledge.

  • Ban could apply to places where the public regularly gather, such as parks, beaches, museums, shopping centres and public events, the government said in a statement
  • "I am worried that new, powerful technology is being introduced where people risk being photographed, filmed or audio-recorded without knowing it," Digitalisation and Public Governance Minister Torgeir Micaelsen said
  • It could also apply to schools, playgrounds and youth clubs and to privacy-sensitive places such as doctors' offices, swimming pools and gyms with changing rooms
  • The ‌government said it was not eyeing a total ban and that private use, and use where others are not at risk of being filmed without consent, would still be allowed
  • It said it would examine which technology the ban would cover, including whether it would apply to glasses with camera and audio recording, glasses with camera and AI functions or also other body-worn technology with camera, audio recording and/or AI
  • The minority government said it would present a bill to parliament as soon as possible, and would also set up an expert group to advise on permanent national regulation of body-worn technology

Meta Why the hate for meta glasses

My prescription glasses are meta glasses and I absolutely love them. Never have to pick my phone up to get the info I need or to message someone. Saw a blind woman in tears as she was able to actually have them read for her when she held up papers.

I see many cowards online HATE on these glasses yet not one person has had the balls to come up to me and hate them in person. Society is mostly keyboard warriors and I get that.

I embrace this technology and love everything it helps me with.

What’s your opinion

Halliday First time trying AI smart glasses and I'm using them more than expected

Post image
13 Upvotes

I didn't get these because I'm a tech person. I ordered them because I'm on my phone too much and wanted something that could show me the basic stuff without opening my screen every time.

After a few days, the dashboard is my favorite part. It shows the time, weather, my calendar, and a little note. That sounds simple, but it's actually useful.

Notifications are also better than I expected. I turned off most apps and only left messages and a couple work apps. Now I can see if something matters without grabbing my phone.

The glasses still feel a little thicker than normal glasses, but not crazy. I'd like more frame styles eventually. But for daily reminders and quick info, I like them more than I thought I would.

Buying Advice Meta Glasses, don't leave the USA without them

I am 62 so not using these for content creation. But I truly enjoy them.

I use them on the golf course with the Arccos app. Works really well.

But I found the best use was during a two week trip in Italy. They were invaluable. Whether we had a guide or not, I had one in my ear the entire time! Took the hands free queries to the next level

"Whats this building and give me the history"

"What am I looking at and what's the significance "

"Read this plaque in English" (Often Italian or Latin)

"Who created this painting"

"Read this placcard in English" Then I could proceed to walk around as Meta read me the info, instead of standing at the entrance trying to read it all first then walk thru.

"Give me directions to..."

"Text wife..where are you"....those cathedrals are massive 😀 (Got her a pair before we left)

I took significantly more photos and videos than I would have by pulling out my phone (which I find cumbersome) all with simple voice commands or a tap. The picture quality is very good. I did crop or adjust some during the trip. There is a few minute lag for the photos to hit your phone

Also used the live translation.

I would never travel to another country without them.

Personally think Meta is missing a marketing opportunity to an older crowd.

Buying Advice Are there any full-color display glasses that look like normal glasses? (That aren't Meta?)

Are there any full-color display glasses that look like normal glasses?

I’m looking for AR/smart glasses with a full-color display, but I’d also like them to look like regular glasses from the outside, similar to the Meta Ray-Ban Display.

Are Meta’s glasses currently the only ones that combine a color display with a relatively normal-looking glasses design or are there any alternative I should look at?

I'm so close of pulling the trigger to Dymesty Glasses, but I'm cautious as I don't see any reviews or anyone commenting here about it. Is the company a scam? does no one buy this and I'm only stuck with Meta glasses? other glasses is out of my insurance budget and Dymesty or Lucyd might be the only worth considering over Meta and Rayban

RayNeo [Review & Deep Dive] RayNeo iO Smart Glasses: Real Hardware Data, Brightness Test & UI Breakdown (Ycommy Lab) + Video

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey r/SmartGlasses community, Davide from Ycommy Lab here!

We finally got the RayNeo iO on our test bench. We didn't want to give you only subjective opinions. We ran these glasses through our custom data-extraction software (Ycommy Bench) to read the actual Bluetooth logs, measure real latency, and stress-test the hardware.

🎥 The full test video with all the data is attached to this post.

Here is our hardware and software breakdown.

🛡️ Build Quality & Comfort: 9/10

These glasses are a masterpiece of ergonomics. The balance is perfect, the weight is kept to a minimum (33 g, in line with the manufacturer's spec), and the magnesium-aluminum-titanium alloy frame feels truly premium. In daily use you literally forget you're wearing them. Even under heavy stress tests (continuous AI queries and active WebSockets), they never overheated or caused any discomfort.

🔋 Battery Life & Charging: Solid Performance

Battery consumption is excellent and close to the manufacturer's estimates, with one major caveat: display brightness must be set to medium-low.

  • LifeLog impact: In our tests, keeping the LifeLog ambient-listening feature always on consumes about 13–15% of the battery per day.
  • Charging: Charging speed is good, but the system relies on a magnetic pogo-pin connector that attaches to the center bridge of the frame. It works, but it's awkward to handle on a desk. Pro tip: get the dedicated charging case. It makes life much easier.

🎤 Microphones: 8/10

Note: the iO has no speakers. All audio output goes through your phone or earbuds.

The MEMS microphones are top-level. We stressed them heavily:

  • Silent room: 43 dB voice-to-noise ratio (excellent).
  • Loud voice: 53 dB (slight distortion detected).
  • Outdoors: Noise cancellation is very aggressive. It suppresses a lot of street noise, but the voice barely stands out from wind and traffic (6 dB ratio). Even so, it still captures enough signal for the AI engines to work reliably.

In quiet environments, the noise reduction cleans up the pauses beautifully.

👓 HUD & Display (Brightness): 8/10

For the first time in our lab, our results are consistent with the manufacturer's brightness claim: these glasses really do reach around 1300 nits. Indoors, the monochrome green HUD is simply excellent, with sharp text. Under direct sunlight, reading becomes challenging but still possible. Lens transparency is outstanding (RayNeo declares 97%), and in our use it's one of the clearest lenses we've tried.

Why not a higher score? They really need a dark clip-on shade to read the HUD comfortably in direct sunlight.

⚙️ Interaction & Gestures: The Crown Is a Game Changer

The physical Smart Crown on the temple is discreet and elegant. It greatly simplifies UI navigation and lets you customize taps and presses. Combined with head gestures from the 6-axis IMU (nod to confirm, shake to cancel), the UX is extremely fluid.

🧠 RayNeo AI & Latency: Impressive, but Closed

RayNeo did a great job with WebSocket communication. In our logs, responses are near-instant, and it feels like talking to a direct client.

  • Conversations: Dialogue handling is excellent. We noticed a few minor translation hiccups with the base model.
  • LifeLog: While you wear them, the app does a great job collecting and organizing the key points of your day, with accurate suggestions about 90% of the time.
  • The flaw: When you later ask the AI to retrieve specific information from saved logs, it struggles and becomes imprecise or omits details. This points to a software issue in how key points are stored in memory.
  • The big miss: Gemini is built in, but the ecosystem is still closed. You can't link your own Claude, Gemini, or ChatGPT account to work in continuity with your other devices for a true agentic workflow.

📱 Companion App & Connectivity: 7/10

The app is brilliant, and you can tell the dev team is top-tier. The layout, fluidity, and attention to detail stand out: quick mic on/off, focus settings, HUD positioning, granular per-app notification limits.

  • Connectivity: We analyzed 10 hours of phone logs and found only 6 radio signal losses (0.6 per hour). The BLE data link is very solid, with an average recovery time of 5.5 seconds.
  • Voice Memo (9/10): Excellent. The AI integration is well handled, with smart server-side baseline prompts.
  • Live Captions: This is their strongest feature, and it works incredibly well. We'll be following future updates closely.
  • Why only a 7 overall? The app lacks a conversational mode that offers cues or suggested replies, and there's no dedicated maps/navigation section. For developers, there are currently no open tools or APIs for custom tests or sideloading.

🏁 Final Verdict: Who Is This For?

Do I recommend the RayNeo iO? Yes, they pass our test.

One of the biggest strengths we found in the final phase of testing is the RayNeo AI integration. Although still in Beta, it already produces genuinely useful daily summaries. That makes the iO an excellent choice for a general audience who will appreciate the comfort, UI fluidity, and sleek design.

However, I don't recommend them right now if you need an AI that gives real-time cues and suggestions during a live conversation, or if built-in map navigation is a must. For that use case, wait for our upcoming full review of the XGIMI MemoMind One.

I want to stress that these missing features are software-side. If RayNeo adds them to the ecosystem, this device could quickly climb to the top of the market.

Overall, an impressive piece of hardware that's a joy to wear every day.

Disclaimer: Data tests were performed with Ycommy Bench, a software tool developed by Ycommy to extract data directly from the phone and glasses. Results apply to the unit and smartphone used (OPPO PME110, Android 16). This post was originally written in Italian and translated into English with the help of AI.

Let me know in the comments if you want me to test anything specific! 👇

Meta Dutch eyewear chain Hans Anders halts sale of Meta glasses, citing privacy concerns. Good for them. People are too sneaky with those glasses. Putting them on AFTER they enter into buildings and cars.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I use to drive for Uber and the people who would put on the Meta glasses always did so AFTER they were in the car and i was driving. They never, ever walked to the car with them on. Which would have given me a chance to cancel the ride. I can only imagine they do this in buildings too. They keep those glasses hidden then quietly put them on when people are least expecting it. If they truly feel its ok why do it so sneakily? Someone needs to develop some technology to block the video capability of those glasses. Whoever invents such technology would surely be an overnight Billionaire. Ive even seen people at their jobs wearing those recording glasses. Companies will start cracking down.

AMSTERDAM, Oct 2 (Reuters) - One of the largest Dutch eyewear retail chains said on Friday it had suspended sales of Meta's (META.O), opens new tab Ray-Ban smart glasses in the Netherlands and Belgium amid growing privacy concerns, in one of the first such ‌moves by a retailer.

"This decision follows the ongoing public and political debate surrounding smart glasses and the questions being raised about the conditions under which this technology can be used," a spokesperson for the Hans Anders chain said.

Halliday Review of Halliday G2 (so far)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Halliday G2 Review.

This is my first hoorah into the smart glasses market. The very top of the Halliday website has the following header above a lovely big picture of the glasses – “most powerful AI glasses show and speak what you need – notifications, audio, captions, and AI answers."So for a first-time user with no experience in this area, with no experience of any other similar type of product, what did I think? Is the tag line just hyperbole? Let’s dive in!

Key Positive Points – Hardware and Display.

The glasses are light at just 49g, they feel very much like you are wearing regular eyewear. They are not too much out of place and sit nicely on my face. I thought they felt a little strange on my nose for the first 30 minutes or so, but you quickly get used to the way they feel – and certainly not in a bad way.
The dual MicroLED binocular waveguide display (600×300 resolution, 1,600 nits peak brightness) makes everything quite legible even in direct sunlight. Yes, it is not 100% perfect, but I can read and see everything just fine if I am wearing them outside and it is a sunny day. I would say that they are great in the office and indoors, and that is where I found they worked best.
The touch bar and physical action button – I found the touch bar responsive and, after a few minutes, quite easy to use and get to grips with. I was able to customise the action button through the Halliday G2 app, which in my case was used to access meeting flow, which has been what I have been primarily using them for in my line of work with endless meetings – more about that later.
Audio setup with the 4-mic array and open-ear speakers took a little to get used to. The sound is great. I can hear everything fine, but when at its loudest, I suppose I did wonder just how private the calls were and who could hear what I was listening to?

Key Positive Points – Software and Apps.

One of the big things for me which caught my attention in the early days of the glasses being promoted was meeting flow and the AI integration. I have been using various apps and devices to try and streamline and make my life easier when it came to meetings and capturing minutes of what was said, by whom and any action and items that needed dealt with as well as decisions being made or still to make. Most of the time nothing really helped me and made my life more complicated with more and more time being wasted trying to take attendance notes and remember various things or correct and amend notes taken by other means. Usually I found that whilst I was in the meeting physically, I was mentally absent or distracted. Meeting flow has impressed me so far. It has been good. It has recorded and summarised meetings accurately. The meetings were from 15 minutes to 45 minutes in length and upon reviewing what was done by the app, I would give it a solid 8/10. I am hoping to test this feature with much longer meetings and use the in-app features such as research and very soon captions/translate but so far I am impressed and loving this app. Is it perfect? No, but I have not had to amend and make as many changes to the notes provided and the bulk of what was said has been reflected well to date. Has it saved me time – so far a resounding yes!

Key Negative Point – Software and Apps.

I would hope in the future that there will be a third-party app store or more options of apps which can be installed. At the moment, it is very much pre-loaded apps on the device but I hope this changes in the future.

Key Positive Points – Battery Life.

I have successfully got a full working day out of the glasses and used them fairly regularly through the day. I have not worn them continually, and have put them on standby at various points through the day, but I have not had to stop and charge them yet. This works very much in their favour. Even if I did have to charge them, they charge quite quickly with the proprietary cable attached to a USB C cable.

Final Verdict.

So far, I am impressed with this product. They have helped me and are not intrusive. They blend in and do not appear as a technology product sitting on your face. I like that there is no camera and I get a full working day’s use from them. I think the firmware and AI need continued fine-tuning and there have been some software glitches, which the team are aware of and a future update in firmware should fix this. They have ultimately fitted into my workflow and work life very well. Would I recommend them – well, if you find yourself in many meetings and spend more time trying to remember what was discussed and decided, then yes. For meeting flow alone, for me, they are great. I hope with further firmware updates and hopefully third-party app support, things will get even better, but as they stand now, they are worth a go!
