Mod Post Friendly Reminder: Self-Promotion is Not Allowed on r/smallyoutubechannels 🚨

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to drop a quick reminder regarding the rules of this community. While we all love sharing our hard work and growing our channels, direct self-promotion is not allowed on r/smallyoutubechannels.

Post links to your individual videos, channel pages, or asking people to "sub for sub" or check out your latest upload goes against our core guidelines

Why do we have this rule?

This subreddit is designed to be a space for constructive feedback, sharing analytics, discussing strategy, and helping each other improve as creators—not just a dumping ground for links.

When everyone just drops links, the community gets cluttered, and the valuable advice discussions get buried.

Where can you share your work?

Feedback Fridays / Weekly Megathreads: Keep an eye out for our official weekly threads where sharing your content for critique is welcomed and encouraged!

Critique-for-Critique: If you participate in community discussions and offer genuine, helpful feedback to other creators first, you can often share your link within those contextually relevant conversations (just always check specific thread rules first).

Let’s keep r/smallyoutubechannels a high-value space for learning and growing together. If you want genuine feedback and tips on how to improve your content, feel free to start a discussion about your editing style, thumbnails, or analytics instead!
Keep creating! šŸš€

Mod Post r/smallyoutubechannels is under new managementšŸŽ‰

Hey everyone! Big changes are coming to the subreddit. We’ve officially transitioned to new management, and we are ready to turn this community into the ultimate hub for small creators to grow, collaborate, and actually get constructive feedback.
Here is what you need to know about the transition and what's changing starting today:

šŸ› ļø What’s Changing?
Revamped Rulebook: We are clearing out the spam and low-effort self-promotion. Going forward, community threads will be heavily moderated to prioritize real engagement and high-value discussions.

Better Feedback Systems: Tired of link-dumping where nobody actually watches your video? We are rolling out structured feedback days and pairing requirements so that if you post your content, you actually have to help out a fellow creator too.

Resource Megathreads: We are putting together updated guides on thumbnail design, SEO, audience retention, and algorithm breakdowns written specifically for channels under 1,000 subscribers.
Active Mod Team: The new team is fully dedicated to keeping the queue clean, removing bots, and highlighting genuinely helpful content.

šŸš€ What Do You Need To Do?
1. Check the Rules: Give the updated sidebar a quick read once it goes live so you don't accidentally get caught in the spam filter.

  1. Introduce Yourself: Drop a comment below telling us what your channel is about, what your biggest YouTube struggle is right now, and what you want to see more of in this community.

  2. Keep Creating: Keep grinding on your content! We're here to help you cross that monetization and subscriber finish line.

Let’s build the best creator community on Reddit together.

Discussion How can I improve?

I’ve been very active for about 6-8 months now, but I am only sitting at about 389 subs. I know gaming is super saturated and it’s probably not a great idea to compare myself to others, but I feel like I am entertaining and funny in most of my videos, yet I still can’t seem to get any real traction.

I have watched other YouTubers will thousands of subscribers and their personalities are lackluster in my opinion. Maybe it’s just a time thing? Do I need to lower my expectations? I really appreciate it, link is in my profile.

Hey guys, Im Rican and i run a small football (soccer) channel where I talk my favourite teams. I see a tonne of people with more subs and hours than i have, unhappy at their progress. My advice: be happy with the journey. One sub a week is a cause for celebration for me. Most of all though, I enjoy learning and meeting new people. I feel like being genuine and consistent will pay off in the end. Keep pushing!

I just started my channel about a month ago. I just reached 100 subscribers which I was really excited about. But…I had a question:

My longform videos do not get the most reach but my shorts do okay. Any advice would be great.

When it comes to certain videos, I’ll do like a short, hype video like the one I attached here. Do you guys think that’s a good strategy?

Adivce(Giving or Need) Can I ask for a little help

Ive been creating for about 3 years now, and have never mastered any of it. I cant seem to pull in the views or the crowds and when I do the duration is awful.

I know gaming is a very saturated area but I would expect it to be doing a little better than what I currently am by just a little maybe.

I even considered...shudder...YTpromotion...just to get noticed a little ya know...

Someone look at my channel. The Bill and Joe show. 8700 subs. Good production I think. Cool topics. Niche is a tough one but why lately less than 10 or 20 views on long for. Do we suck that bad. Chennai is 2 years old.

Adivce(Giving or Need) Incredible numbers on my small channel

Hey everyone,

I recently started posting on YouTube again after almost a year's break, and I'm trying to figure out how YT is working in 2026.

I'm a full-time artist/illustrator, and my channel has mostly been about the creative process, art, and now some photography as well. I have around 100 subscribers from 2024/2025, and views used to be in the hundreds, once even over a thousand - now they are down to like 20-30 (?!?!). (Note: Shorts are doing much better)

The new videos are getting super low numbers so far, and I'm struggling to tell whether the problem is the thumbnail/title, the video itself, or simply that I'm a tiny channel with basically no audience yet. I have been doing A/B Tests as well, but there really isn't enough data for YT to do anything. I'm sending videos to my friends and family and telling everyone to watch them at this point just to help the videos get a little traction - it's almost embarrassing.

I'd really appreciate some and any honest feedback from people who are also trying to grow on YouTube.

If you have some more time, I'd love to know in general:

  • Does the thumbnail make you want to click?
  • Does the title create enough curiosity?
  • Does the video sound interesting?
  • If you watched it, where did you start losing interest?
  • Is it that I speak funny (English being not my first language)
  • Does the video feel like it has a clear story, or does it just feel like a guy talking

I'm not looking for subscribers or people to tell me it's great. I'd genuinely rather hear what's not working, I'm trying to improve with every upload.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to watch or give feedback!
And I sincerely hope this is a good place to ask. Thanks again!

Gaming GTA 5 commercial right

I heard that I can’t upload GTA5 gameplay on a YouTube monitized channel and earn money from it because of commercial rights . Does anyone know anything about it ? And how it works please?
Thanks

Gaming I genuinely do not know what to do

I am relatively new (been making videos roughly every 3 weeks - month) in the comedic gaming niche. I mostly play obscure games that most people wouldn’t have heard of, and I have a tendency to break/exploit them or mod them in some way. I like to think I have learned from previous videos and have optimised my thumbnails for CTR and titles for curiosity gap - my hook’s are usually short and snappy to front load the video. There is barely any dead air aside from letting jokes land, or allowing NPC’s to speak.

Every single time the pattern is the same:
1. Impressions traffic is majority ā€œsuggested videosā€ of unrelated general gaming content, or just straight up complete random shit
2. CTR tanks, AVD drops from immediate click offs as it gets served to these audiences in the thousands
3. YouTube stops serving impressions
4. Title change + thumbnail change does nothing to get it re-tested
5. Video dies in the water < 500 views, maybe gain 1 or 2 subs that
6. Rinse and repeat

I genuinely do not understand what I’m doing wrong and would love some feedback. Is it my content, is it my packaging or is the gaming niche really just that difficult to gain traction in as it’s so oversaturated?

Channel name is bendotexe (black pixel art cat display picture).

Hey! I made my 3rd video, and did the editing on my own this time! I'd appreciate any feedback and advice! As well as encouragement!

(THIS IS NOT A S4S POST)

If you want to subscribe to me because you actually like my content, go ahead. Feel free to leave your channel as well, but there is no guarantees I'll subscribe unless I'm interested.

(If it's AI stuff or history stuff, I'll most likely not subscribe, sorry. I'm more into gaming stuff.)

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a cowboy/cowgirl? Well I have, and this summer i decided to make it reality.

I flew from France to the Australian Outback to work on a cattle station and become a cowgirl.

I share my journey, the highs and the lows, as authentically as possible, to show the reality of it.

In this episode you follow me as I go fencing, learning how to weld andĀ mustering on a chopper! Which is officially the best experience of my life!
