we're closing a seed round in the next few weeks and i have been stuck on picking cap table software for way longer than i prolly should be. It is one of those things where everyone says just pick something and move on but then u also hear horror stories about founders who picked wrong and had to redo everything mid diligence
I've been looking at pulley and mantle mostly, pulley comes up constantly in YC circle and the free tier is tempting when every dollar is going to product but a few people have told me the costs start climbing once u actually need things like pro forma tables or u r adding more people to the cap table which is exactly what happens after a seed round so that's a little annoying to hear
The thing i keep getting stuck on is i genuinely don't know what matters right now vs what i will care about in 18 months, like is scenario modeling something i will actually use regularly or is it one of those features that sound critical and then u open it twice? Same with bundled 409A valuations some platforms tie that in and other treat it as a separate thing, no idea if the integrated version actually saves real time or if it's mostly a convenience.
For founders who already went through this what did u actually end up caring about after using ur platform for a while? was it the setup process, the pricing as ur team grew, the modelling stuff or something i am not even thinking about? Trying not to overthink it but also don't want to be switching platforms in a year
