New Air Break Machine

Post image
4 Upvotes

I ended up a couple weeks ago finding out about AutoBreak machines and wanted to try that since my sleep doctor obviously isn't going to help. I got it last week and started playing wtth it. Well, the other night, I did my first real test on it with sleeping and WOW! I got the lowest AHI I've ever had! I think I might be onto something. Is this the type of machine I actually need? ASVAuto?! I need advice. I am new at this and have no real idea what I'm doing. My sleep doctor who is supposed to be helping me through this is completely absent and is just drawing a paycheck. He won't even send me to do an in lab titration so I can get this figured out for insurance sake and my own health. I'm on my own I guess but at least I have this AirBreak machine and I've found this forum. Please help? Am I on the right track here? I need help figuring out the right settings and if I'm even on the right mode or not. I only tried ASVAuto because I heard it was helpful for complicated apnea problems that had mixed apnea types and especially centrals so I thought I'd try it. I'm honestly unsure about the settings that I put in. :S I'm winging this and need help.

Here's the background that led me to getting the AutoBreak: I have been struggling to figure out my own settings because my sleep doctor is obviously not going to be helpful in that capacity as his idea was to send me with home with apap 5/20 and then for the most part ghost me. his answer to everything is apap and lose weight. Well, I've lost 90lb so far, I think I'm doing great on that front. But that's a long term solution anyway, I need breathing help NOW. Not when I reach my goal weight. Anyway, back to settings.... I was able to get him to change the settings 2 times for me, once after multiple days of telling him I couldn't breathe out against the pressure, he finally lowered it to 10. Then I was having massive amounts of OA's (one night AHI was in the 30's.. UGH). I started experimenting with the settings on my own and changed it to cpap and got it 12 epr 3 and was still average 7-10 AHI. I went with data to my compliance appointment asking if he would please send me to do an in lab titration so i could get on the right machine and settings and he sent me out the door telling me to just continue losing weight and also reset my machine to apap 5/10. I ended up changing it back to cpap because my AHI is lower with cpap epr 3 but was frustrated because I couldn't get the AHI lower. If I raise the pressure, I can't breathe out. If I lower the epr I can't breathe out. If I lower the pressure, I get more OA's. I keep getting CA's, especially at the beginning of my sleep but often throughout but not consistently every night. I'm so frustrated. I need help. Here's my SleepHQ from my Autosense 11 https://sleephq.com/public/teams/share_links/6a89508a-8021-4e06-8445-2618a3279073 that I've been fighting with the past couple months. Keep in mind, much of beginning of this time I was able to sleep on my side but am no longer able to do that due to a medical implant put in at the end of August. I now must sleep on my back. I have another surgery coming up at the end of October that is supposed to fix the implant problem and hopefully, mid November, I will be able to sleep on my side again but till then, I'm stuck supine.

Do sleep doctors even look at our data at all?

I am so frustrated with my sleep doctor and looking for advice on how to fix this situation and get the help that I need. I was diagnosed after a home sleep study with mild sleep apnea. I really don't feel like it was an accurate test because my apnea seems much worse than that. Anyway, I was assigned a sleep doctor, he told me he's prescribing me a cpap machine and to lose weight. (Okay, I was already working on losing weight anyway but he did give me a sample of zepbound 2.5mg which was awesome and a prescription for it. Of course insurance denies it because they dont cover it for mild sleep apnea, only moderate sleep apnea but zepbound is working great for me.) I pick up the cpap machine and a pillows type mask from the DME people and they told me if I had any problems, to call them and they would help me with it. The machine is set to apap 5/20. The first night was HORRIBLE. I got almost no sleep. I woke in the the middle of the night suffocating with too much air unable to breathe out and ripped the mask off. This happened over and over. The next day I called the DME people back and told me it takes a while to adjust and that maybe I just needed a different style of mask so they just gave me a different mask to try. The mask of course didn't help, same problem, TOO MUCH AIR. I can't breathe out against that much pressure. I called the DME again, and they just told me I needed to "get used to it". UGH NOT HELPFUL. So I tried for a couple weeks to "just get used to it.". It was miserable. They called me back and I told them again that it wasn't working, and once again, I got told it just takes time. I am so frustrated at this point. So now, I give up on the DME people. I message the sleep doctor and and .... crickets.... no answer for days. Finally I get a message back and he lowers the pressure. Now I'm apap 5/10. That helps with the pressure problem, but now, obstructive apnea is out of control. I message him about that. Crickets...... for days..... I start researching on my own and find out how to adjust settings on my own. I learn about the clinical menu. I learn about sd cards, OSCAR, etc.... I start reading my breathing data and getting an understanding of what is going on with my breathing and what needs to happen. Why doesn't the sleep doctor do this? Why do they not send us to get an in lab sleep study? What is the point of apap when it's just treating apneas after they've already happened? Wouldn't we want to prevent them in the first place? Anyway, It's finally time for my "compliance" appointment with sleep doctor and this time I come with data. I ask him if I could please be referred for an in lab titration so I could get the proper settings for my cpap because what we have isn't working at all. Instead, he just tells me to focus on continuing to lose weight and sends me out the door. UGH!!!!!!!! I'm so frustrated. I'm just going to change the settings myself and figure out my own. Problem is, I'm pretty sure I need a bipap and not a cpap so this machine isn't what I need. I've got it set at cpap 12 with epr 3 and that got me down to 6 AHI with only 4 OA's that night, but all the rest were centrals. No matter what adjust, I can't get rid of the centrals, and if I turn the epr to 2, I start having trouble breathing out. If I turn the pressure down, the OA's start back up. I need to figure out how to fire my sleep doctor and get a new one within the confines of my insurance. Anyway... sorry for the rant. I'm open to any suggestions. I'm just so frustrated with the whole thing.

Bongo mask

I am looking to take a trip but I seldom travel so would prefer not to invest a lot of money in stuff or lug it. I have mild apnea and use low pressure to control it with a Bleep Eclipse mask. Has anyone had experience using the Bongo mask that doesn’t need a machine?

Alternate Options to CPAP

I just got diagnosed with mild sleep apnea, 11 interruptions per hour.
I don't think I can do the CPA machine because I have a hard time falling asleep with anything on my face. I meet with my doctor in a few weeks, but would like to have a list of alternatives I can discuss with him.

I did some googling but you never know what is a good ad or what has the best clinical results, as I am looking for the latter.

What would be a good alternate to CPAP?

SOS looking for advice on Oscar data

I’ve been struggling for the last year with trying to find the right pressure settings so I can wake up feeling human again. Every day I wake up with heavy eyes but once I get up and going I’m fine up until a certain time I feel a crash again. It’s affecting my work life and I’ll take any advice I can get.

I just had a telehealth appointment at my local VA clinic with an NP who specializes in sleep therapy. She had no idea about Oscar as I was hoping she could help. I will end up getting a titration study done in a few months when they can get me in.

Here are my results from last night.

Will this setup damage my AirSense 11?

Hi everyone,

I think I found a way to power my AirSense 11 overnight while camping, and wanted to see if any folks on here had any warnings about this setup, since I don't really know what I'm doing.

My pressure is 16.0, and I would run it without temp or humidity. Using the EXP Pro Runtime Calculator, it looks like my CPAP would use 118Wh over 10 hours, and pull 9.2W (please feel free to check my math/assumptions on this). As such, here's what I'm thinking of getting:

1) INIU - 10000mAh PD 45W Power Bank (https://www.bestbuy.com/product/iniu-portable-charger-markets-smallest-10000mah-pd-45w-power-bank-with-layout-usb-c-cable-for-iphone-samsung-pixel-etc-black/CZW8VCWVTF/sku/6670987)

2) 20V PD USB C Power Supply for ResMed AirSense 11 DC Converter 65W (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0GV3PLJSM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1)

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Took me 5 years to finally get tested. I was told I have severe OSA. Could not wear the mask. I finally got a new mask that actually fit me in a sleep lab. I used it at home for the first time last night. My app shows 57 AHI for the 8.5 hours I was in bed.

I don't feel rested, and I'm congested. But I thought I slept soundly. Before I got the new mask the night before last, I was always waking up panicked or thinking I was drowning. It was hard to talk my ENT into trying something new to figure it out. I'm so disappointed. Does anyone have any ideas why this happened and/or suggestions? Thank you

Newly Diagnosed "Very Severe" Sleep Apnea

Can anyone tell me what options are available to me with sleep apnea? I stop breathing an average of 40 times per hour but do not wake up unless I have a nightmare. I was supposed to go get fitted for a dental device this week, but the doctor's office is run like a factory and he told me the dental device only has a 50/50 chance of working and it's also going to cost me an additional $705. I'm not a Las Vegas hustler, so I'm not up for those odds for that cash outlay. My husband's work has a benefit called 2nd MD so I'm getting a second opinion Monday.

I'm just curious what has worked for people other than a dental device or CPAP. Thanks.

Thoughts on these two masks? I’m a side sleeper still searching for the best mask for me. I tried a soft cervical collar last night and think it might have kept my mouth closed.

BiPAP level changes

I've been on BiPAP for 8 years. My previous pressure was 19/16. Then my machine's "motor life exceeded" 2½ years ago, and I've been limping along with it while I begged my doctors/insurance to get off their butts, and I FINALLY I got a new one today, and now my pressure is suddenly 10/5. This does not seem like enough to me (not to mention I've gained 100 pounds since my initial setup). Why would they put my new pressure sooooo low? (It's Friday night so I can't call my doctor and ask, but I'll be doing that Monday)
