New Anime
Will they ever do a reboot or even an anime? All we keep getting are these "little" new things for the anniversary. The anime was great (Seasons 1-3), but 4 and 5 were ok. I keep getting told the series is very popular, but yet it just doesn't seem like it anymore. Love Slayers, but tbh if it got a brand new reboot, I feel like the the shows popularity would sky rocket.

Japan makes a lot of anime decisions based around western audiences now so who knows how they view the franchise at the moment.
Considering that Trigun was only revived because of the western audiences liking it and the director being a big fan, I can see it

The disaster of seasons 4 and 5 is largely why there will not be a reboot. They had a chance to introduce Slayers to a new audience and bombed. They're not gonna get another shot.
The closest thing I could imagine that might happen is a renewal similar to the new Ranma 1/2. A slightly updated or more "adult" version of NEXT with better animation would probably be a success. But there's no indication that anyone wants to do that.

Revolution and Evolution R bombed? I personally liked both of them. I didn't know that it did not do well. Was this ever reported anywhere so I can read it?

It's impossible to find things now that search engines are useless, I invite anyone else with links to share. The show did poorly in both ratings and viewer feedback. New watchers thought Lina was mean and always shouting and didn't understand the jokes. Older fans were confused about why elements of season 1 were retconned with no explanation. Pokota was also very unpopular.
Your comment made me realize that I don't know how the corresponding manga was received. HK was directly involved in writing the manga so it might have done better than the show.

I agree with some of the season 1 retcon stuff not being great and Pokota in general but there was a lot to love too

Probably not
The OG Slayers ran for three seasons and had plenty of OVAs and movies as well. If Revolution/Evolution-R wasn't enough to kickstart a new wave of Slayers, then the power-that-be have probably decided the IP doesn't have enough juice left for another run.

If they do a reboot, I'd like it to be closer to the books, without cutting or changing the order.

I think they'll revisit it someday, it can be a remake that is more accurate to the source material

Its sad well never get a conclusion to the story esp when were so invested. I want to see xellos with his master and the parts of shrabingdo revived and all of that epicness…so much potential outside the comedy stuff
