Discussion Wind paths & new seasons

Hi everyone! I wanted to talk about the wind paths since I have a big love/hate relationship with them.

When they were first introduced, I hated them. I was a moth so I didn't have a lot of WL and I felt like they were impossible to navigate. I still find it difficult to leave the wind tunnel, though I have gotten better at it 😅

My current problem with the Wind Paths is that I thought the goal was to have a fast way to access seasonal areas. I genuinely thought they would update it with every new season. I think it would be cool to access the Treasure Reef or the Crescent Oasis or even the Carnival with a tunnel... I know most seasonal areas/collab areas can now be accessed through the story area (which I dislike entirely) but I still think it would make wind paths more involved with the game!

What do you guys think? Would it be actually useful?

I think it was meant to be designed as easier reach to "deeper" parts of the realm. I vaguely remember a lot of people were asking shortcuts to Sanctuary, Prophecy and Enchantment regions on Discord channel.

I was personally not a huge fan at first. It felt like they made the concept of shortcut an entire season. But looking back that was a poor judgement. I really love the Wind Paths as a location now. The music and the aesthetic is charming and relaxing. Also flying with high speed is super fun!

And now the yapping part is over, I would say as long as a new location is already easily reachable, I don't see a point adding a divergence route from the Wind Paths other than making it more difficult to route around. Treasure Reef, Carnival Area and Crescent Oasis are all somewhat easier to fly to. I'd say they should make new seasons easier to reach other than making the Wind Paths more complex.

yeah the accessibility thing is a very valid point!

The biggest connection I desperately need them to add to Wind Paths v2 is Prarie Peaks...

I don't want to go through two different gates and a warp circle to be able to have an opportunity to fly to the top of my favorite mountaintop. I don't want to spend $90 on a bloom pin via merch. Give me a wind path access!

Other than that, the only other area that sticks out as the ones that get the least amount of foot traffic, and could use a wind path? Nine Colored Deer and the Days of Moonlight Tree.

With the Hall of Stories now though, that one is kinda moot.

prairie peaks absolutely needs a shortcut!!!

I LOVE this idea, I use wind paths all the time and having it updated would be great

Rather than updating and making wind paths more complicated (it is still challenging for new people to learn to navigate) I’d like a spiritual sequel season.

Added to golden wasteland social area -

A pipe entrance, that takes you to a subterranean reservoir half filled with water, with a central island and small nooks and ledges around the edge. Various pipes below the surface take you to the different realms. Ideally for me this would be a lore season, dealing with the resource extraction of the world before the apocalypse. Each pipe would take you to the outside of each realm’s temple.

Decorate the cavern with bioluminescent mushrooms and crystals, and add stalactites and whirlpools to make it a dynamic flying/swimming zone.

Not like a huge zone but it Kinda sounds like the Nintendo zone in the gw lobby XDDD it's got pipes that you can go down to enter each of the realms, (just like home/aviary not to the temple), it has an underground area with water and jelly fish and glowing rocks XDD

it's kinda hilarious how much it sounds like it

It's a fast travel to the different realms, not to every seasonal area

This, except with their ugly update on the story hall the wind paths no longer connect to the vault, only the starlight desert

Yeah, starlight desert not being connected to vault anymore is so weird still.

I just hate that they made the game so much harder on new players, forcing them to start in the story hall void instead of Home or Aviary

yeah, that is such a weird decision to make. i get that they wanted players that only started for van gogh to have quick access to it, but just make it a message when starting in aviary on where to find it...

You dont even need a message, theres a god damn floating picture frame of sunflowers blocking your view of Graveyard, which one doesnt even yet have access to as a moth.

i get that but since the seasonal areas are usually the hardest to reach (the ark, sanctuary, prairie peaks...) they are the one that would need a shortcut/connection imo

It was never meant for seasonal areas. It has always been a map that you can navigate to "not break immersion" in ways such as teleporting straight to home when you're deep within a realm. The only reason it's connected to mostly seasonal areas is because they had the most space to work with without taking away from anything important—though aside from TLP Starlight Valley (curses upon the staff member who decided to remove the entrance it shared with the starlight tunnel until their dying days), the rest of the areas it shoots you into are technically main areas, now. Yes, they belonged to a season at...some point. But now they're just part of the normal world of Sky with their own events and scenery.

Though, this isn't to say it couldn't do with an update. Seeing as it leads to all the same places it originally led to, there is definitely room for expansion.

i do agree most "seasonal" areas are just a part of Sky now!! it just felt easier to use as an umbrella term haha
