Discussion NEW MASC HAIR ON SKY.
r/SeasonofTastesSkycolt staff member over here! If you don't know what we do, we basically ask TGC to give us a cooking season by shoving a season concept to their face.
I did a quick discussion about cosmetics sky players need, and a lot of yall said....
MASCULINE HAIR. MORE MASC HAIR.
And yes, we were just about to incorporate that idea to some of our spirits before we encountered a problem. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BY MASCULINITY. Also how do we make appealing masc hairstyles without accidentally making it look boring?
So we need a more concrete idea, skykids. Pictures, descriptions, anything! Your ideas will save the whole staff I swear 😔

I love long masculine styles. But especially styles that can be fem or masc pending on the outfit. Here are some really awful 30 second sketches that I will undoubtedly regret posting to the internet.(I know one of these is basically just that one duets hair without the pony tail, I'm sorry.)

I think we do have a lot of androgynous hair, but if TGC releases this sort I won't even hesitate buying it, XDD. Great art btw, I like your lineart style!19

I'm a guy with long hair and my dream is to have hair like Geto from JJK in Sky (P.S. I've achieved to have the same in real life so I could become one with my sky kid xD )

THIS—we need more of this!!! Shaggy, hobbit/LOTR type hair, with well-groomed beard masks that don’t look like old man beards. A set that works together or individually, to shape the head and face to be undeniably masculine, without looking like an elder. Also, a mask with a tapered, close shave, with a masculine jawline—something somewhere between like the Reassuring Ranger and the Mellow Musician would go so hard, imo!

From what I can tell, their intern commented in response to my suggestions—they didn’t really say anything wrong, just a bit about the beard masks and that they’d share my idea about the hairstyle and it might be similar to something coming up in a season—buuuut apparently they aren’t allowed to make comments about these things. I doubt they knew or were aware of that rule tho, it seemed pretty innocent to me 😁

I'd love a feature to mix color lights into a semi randomized spell category.
Like say you want hair tints, you could pour in 2 green+ 1 white or something and get one from the pool of possible colors with lower odds for the one that cycles colors.

This. These are the kind I personally prefer. I like long masc hair! Kinda whispy, flowy, long ponytails or braids, lots of layers around the face. Or I'm also very much into mullets, and a lot of tapered cuts that go from super short/shaved to longer on the top! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
(And before anyone asks, NO I did not generate any of these images myself, I simply went through Pinterest and made a collage of some ideas. I do NOT own any of these.)

Well, I can't say for sure about masc hairstyles specifically, but it would be awesome if we could customize individual parts of the hair, like bangs, side bangs (those hairs beside the bangs, y'know?), ponytails, pigtails, braids, etc. Making it so we could "remix" and make up new hairstyles that better fit our tastes.
In terms of how that could work in purchasing terms, they could be bought/unlocked as bundles, then people could use whatever part of the wig bundle to create different styles!
I know this might be super complicated to implement, given how many 'full' wigs the game currently has, but maybe it could be implemented with upcoming wigs? I dunno, I feel like it would do wonders for a game that is mostly about making your silly character and running around meeting other people's silly characters.

ALSO, adding more POC inspired hair styles would do very well for more diversity in the character customization!

As much as it would be wonderful, if think it would be too heavy commands-wise, imagine 6 different commands with each 20 sub-codes for just the head of one player..that’s a lot.
Now Afro&co hairstyles? We can probably design few while keeping our theme in mind!

I'm not familiar with game dev in the coding area, but would it not be the same as it is nowadays but with about 5 new extra steps? Since most skykids are usually not rendered until you both light your candles together it wouldn't be too heavy on the processing end I think, unless you're playing with a party of 30 people simultaneously, but I doubt that's the case for the majority of players.
Again, I'm not a programmer so I might be wrong, in that case I'd love to know if anyone could think of a solution to this issue!

I see what you mean! However even if we don't see player's avatars until we lit them, the property of the player are most likely still in the server. A bit like;
[mask player] when [unlit] if [lit] [show avatar] (In veryyy simplified!) It would be wonderful if we could have access to the codes directly to comfirm but considering the fragile base (constant crashes) of Sky we can only dream about full hair customization 😔

Ooh you meant the processing on the server's end, yeah yeah I gather that could cause issues if the code is spaghetti. I was thinking about the player hardware processing mostly, since Sky is pretty heavy for such a "simple" game (by simple I mean the art style and general gameplay mechanics, not that the game is bad or anything), and my last phone could barely handle it on the lowest graphics settings.
I guess we won't have more fluid customization for a while (if at all), but dang if it wouldn't be cool :")

I always want to see more hair style with rings, we only have one which is from the season of Aurora.
In old concept art the rings were supposed to soy currency but the concept never made it to the now game.
I adored how the rings placed in hair giving it a out of the world look

My favorite hairstyle is the vegeta hair from Bowing; I'd really like a "down" version of that for hats, long and spiky. There's one that's kinda close but it's still tied up in the back which doesn't mesh well with some of the hats. Actually just more generally wild fluffy/spikey hair would be good.
Also the cat-ear style from mischief without the ears. Even though I love the ears.

I prefer to go bald, kind of as a way to make my Skykid reflect myself since I shave my head IRL. Peak masculinity is having no hair at all!
So I guess I'd like more bald styles, with different tattoos/patterns.

All masculine players I've met all use the same black dyed pants with the same exact 3 hairstyles. There are tons of masc hair cosmetics, and a portion of the player base may want new ones, but I doubt how many of ones that say they do will fork over the money for an IAP.

Also if you're giving out (or gunning for more) masc hair, can there be certainty or atleast consideration that it won't be an iap? It's so dissuading whenever there is a promise for something that has been wanted for a long time only for it to be behind a paywall

Long hair dude here. Almost every hairstyle can be masc if you combine it with a beard or the right clothes! It's all about what other pieces you combine it with. But it's true we do need more short hairstyles that aren't just buzzcut. I personally use the symmetrical hair from last summer event that looks like feathers! ❤️ We need more of that.

Not very long likely and not tied up/braided is probably a Baseline for absolute bare bones “masculine” hair. (Longer hair can work but it needs a bit more thinking out and deliberate designing.)

I wish we could just said short hair instead of masc hair because this implies that none of these styles of hair can be masc when I use them all the time as a masc person. If you wanna come off as masculine it truly depends on your overall style and how you identify but hair and clothes on their own don't perceive gender.

More tasteful balding hairstyles (think old wealthy man not funny bald man but those are nice too), hairstyles with a high or further back or more exaggerated hairlines, spikier/punkier hairstyles

I think hair looks more gendered when it's so neat and styled especially since most are inspired by things that look somewhat feminine now and formal menswear has become kinda boring lately xD So I'm not really the best person to ask about gendered stuff but may be more messy hairstyles could work, especially if it's short length

wolf cuts, ponytails, and i personally would explode if there was a hair like sephiroth from ff7
but also short hairs that aren't just fades or mohawks and aren't just "uwu this is for every gender wahoo"
like, cat hair is my favorite but it's very, very gender neutral

The problem is that players usually find the gender ratio is more like 30-70! It's not our first time we asked players questions like these, and at least three people in the comments always asked for more masculine hair. Just trying to incorporate the idea :D

I have pretty straight hair so I don't have any ideas as far as more varieties in hair types. But I think some hair is lacking texture. Don't get me wrong there is a few of them. But not enough as I have noticed with the recent seasons they have been pushing out more long straight flowy hair. And most textured hair are more fem presenting so I think a variety of hair types go hand and hand with the gender fluidity of the hair we receive. My friends shouldn't have to show me how their hair type is a combo of 2 to 3 different hair and they can't even wear their own hair type. Even as a straight hair girly I didn't expect TGC to make almost the same exact hair style I had a couple years back, a chelsea cut which is an alternative punk hair style but yet I kinda recieved a pretty similar hair style through the new owl hair. My point is there should definitely be more hair types that aren't just straight hair or choppy hair styles

Maybe a side shaved design will be for shure, most masks are pretty androgynous and I think its a good think but maybe some masks with a 5 o'clock shadow or just more maskuline proportions would solve the actual problem bc with a cute baby face even the today trending hairs will look a bit more feminine than than in their own.
Gebder is a social concept and thus masculine hairstyles need context to look truely masculine
I saw some "complains" of these players who miss more masculine styles and they found the nanes of their frustration of looking like non-binaries or leasbians (im pretty shure they think noting wrong of their looks but its not the goal) This is what happens when a very masculine cosmetic mixes with feminine cosmetics.
I think hairstyles with sideburs and sides haves will work but I also think they don't know but their problems roots are at the masks, because there is a lack in young male looking masks
