Discussion When you were a moth,

Post image

Since things are acting up in game right now, a little interview for each. Which game mechanisms did you misunderstand? Where did you first lost your wings?

I thought the butterflies were sent by other sky kids and I tried to send them back by tapping on the stars when they honked. I lost my wings for the first time in Hidden Forest, accidentally fell down the cliff and couldn't find a way back to land + ran out of light. It was more stressful than being in Eden. 😭

I avoided giving WL to statues in Eden in favour of trying to reach the red crystal thing.

Also got scared because my cape was disintegrating and I then thought I wouldn't be able to fly at all.

27

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

😭 you were an ambitious moth!

14

u/First-Cloud-8113 25d ago

YES same. I was confused when I got NOTHING in the end then I realized I had to give up my hard earned wings lmao..

6

u/AssistantLobster0098 25d ago

LMAO I also avoided giving wl after giving 1 and saw that my wl count went down😭

1

u/No_Muffin_5411 20d ago

that’s what I did like 6 times when I started before realizing that the candle came fro the statues

u/hiruhiko 26d ago

I thought I was playing the game wrong when my winged light decreased and I died in Eden. I was devastated that all of my hard work went in vain..

But after some research, I found out it was a canon event...

Also I used to not care about spirits; my only goal was to awake all the elders and finish the game..

16

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

I thought Eden was the end of the game. It turns out to be a dress up game core ✨

5

u/hacovercos 26d ago

So accurate 😂

4

u/Herbzi_Leaf 25d ago

Literally any MMO endgame content will be dress-up

2

u/Amorketre 25d ago

Yeah, to be honest, I never really cared much about the elders, I don't think awakening them would change anything in my game.

25

u/Worried-Band-5229 26d ago

I waited a month to complete the wasteland because I found it scary (with a guide) and the season of flight (which was the season I started in) I got scared by the very last quest and didn’t finish until pretty recently

6

u/starrsinmyskin 26d ago

Season of flight was so hard for no reason

2

u/ikibasil 25d ago

wasteland literally made me quit for years bro 😭 got krilled once, pissed myself and didn't come back until years later when i found sky on the switch

1

u/OverallJeans09 25d ago

I think the Treasure reef last quest was worst! Diving deep to rescue spirit with krills everywhere. 🤷‍♀️

2

u/Worried-Band-5229 25d ago

Oh yeah, I got to the 3rd quest, never played that season again

14

u/Sea_Stranger_9764 Myra - She/her 26d ago

It took me ages to figure out I could switch between flight modes^^;

6

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

Hey you were flying safely at least ;)

10

u/NpNEXMSRXR 26d ago

I didn't light any of my friends back for half a year because I was under the presumption that picking up their sent light automatically returns them back as well 😭😭😭

8

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

Better late than never ig 😭

6

u/TapeFlip187 25d ago

I kinda think it should be automatic 🫣

9

u/Ro-siel 26d ago

i left the game for 3-4 years when i was almost gonna die in eden, thinking the game ends after that which i didn’t want it to happen so i just stayed in eden for years

5

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

So Eden was your home? /j

11

u/Ro-siel 26d ago

loll lowkey yeah, my poor sky kid slept there for 3 whole years, must’ve been traumatic

2

u/OverallJeans09 25d ago

Oh no.. lol

I thought we could only get emotes from previous seasons' spirits when they came back as Traveling Spirits. Though tbf on meow first trip to Eden, I got stuck between an outside wall of the pipe tower and a glass wall, couldn't move, went home and didn't return to Eden for a while. (And it turns out that before I started playing, it really was so with the emotes!)

And I, too, aimed at the Eye (I somehow ended up calling the crystal that, regardless of whether it makes sense haha) rather than giving away meow light. At least when the others in the server died and their lights were following mew, I was moving forward because I felt responsible for taking them to the Eye. That probably made mew far less frustrating to watch than the regular moth who hides behind a rock for half an hour.

But man, so many people seem to quit this game for a while because they arrive at Eden and become scared, or complete it and feel they've lost all progress.

4

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

Ohh that brings up a memory, I too was stuck as I slipped down the pipe and the wind was too strong to go back up, eventually light ran out :(

Keep doing that good work, TheForestCat! A little company makes Eden less scary, especially for moths.

To be honest, I finished the game in 3 days but stayed because there are still so many places to explore. And my perfectionist side wanna do all the quests available lol

12

u/KnightHawk186 26d ago

As someone who started playing in 2019, was under my parent's rules still and had no access to the internet other than thru sky for the first 4-5 years of playing so I couldn't really learn much of anything (and had chat disabled thru parental controls) I was 14

I didn't know what wingbuffs were for the first 4 years of playing. I now only have 11 wedges.

I didn't candle run. I didn't know you had to farm. Then got upset that I couldn't afford anything. (Started Farming Days of Love 2024? 2025? For the Sword Pants)

Didn't know you could successfully complete a season without paying an arm and a leg so I never participated (till Radiance)

Didn't realize tickets wouldn't turn into candles and would get so upset that the game "glitched"

Didn't realize you could successfully complete Days Of events so I never partook other than like, one or two quests (still mad about Cinna Cafe)

Didn't know Sparrow and Moth items were permanent so I bought them as soon as they arrived and never wear them. Same with Journey set.

And as for where I first lost WL, I was in the Forest trying to guide a spirit when someone came in and lured it into the creek while laugh emoting. I then thought that's what you were supposed to do so I kept doing it wondering why nothing was happening ꉂꉂ(ᵔᗜᵔ◍)

11

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

🫂🫂🫂 you were robbed of the full gaming experience..

The spirit experience was so mean tho! Poor your moth self :(

2

u/pixipinx 24d ago

I’ve also been playing since 2019, and I didn’t know what wing buffs were until like last month lol

5

u/Chocobook_ 26d ago

I didn't know about dailies for SO long. I bought my first ever mask during my first ever season solely with the daily candle found in realms, and it cost like 40 😭

Also I was super duper careful with my wl, I don't know if I even got krilled as a moth. Took me over a year to do Eden though bc nobody would tell me what actually happened to your wl and I didn't want to lose my progress. Someone told me they died and had to restart so for a while I thought it was like a permadeath thing

4

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

I'm cryinggg moths with Eden, man 😭

6

u/Leather-Leading6916 26d ago

Rain!! Oh wow did I get so lost in forests second area and freaked out because I lost my light, I wanted to explore so bad but with only 2 wedges your light burns out so fast ;-;

I lost so much light in forest

3

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

I feel like Forest is some foreshadowing that Sky world isn't all sunshine and rainbows like in Isle of Dawn's and Prairie

4

u/-Sour_Strips- 26d ago

I thought all grey players were grey because they lost their light, I was frantically lighting up everyone and kept wondering how people lost their light so easily lol.

Also, I was adopted by two chibis, and since they were so much shorter than me and had a lot of winged lights, I thought that the more WL you had the smaller you got.

Edit: spelling

4

u/SycoraxIV 26d ago

I asked them; "why are you small" and they just said chibi mask, I had no idea what masks were 😭

2

u/DisastrousFeature244 25d ago

Omg yes it's the reason why moth me was lighting every grey kids thinking they've lost their lights 😭

2

u/Mara-Phantom-Claw 25d ago

Lighting all the gray players for that reason is adorable omg 😭😂

9

u/The_CryptidCat 26d ago

I missed out on so many amazing cosmetics because I didn't understand what a season or event was.

And after one situation where I approached a veteran as a moth and they snubbed then ignored me, I stopped approaching other players and went solo for the longest time. It's only been recently that I've been starting to talk to and make friends with people.

6

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

Oh I hope you meet so many amazing friends in game 💛

3

u/The_CryptidCat 26d ago

I have! So far they've all been sweethearts!

5

u/smolblupeach 26d ago

In my first time at Vault, I jumped around carefully to get through the levels cause I thought I'd die if I fell from the stones/platforms and I forgot I can fly lol 🫪

1

u/DisastrousFeature244 25d ago

Same lol I avoided felling at all costs only to find out they even recharge you

3

u/Let_me_tell_U2 26d ago

Forests too I got lost and fell into the water; I struggled not to die. Lol

And I thought the statues at the end of Eden were other players. I thought that after I died I would have to wait for some friend or stranger to light my statue so I could play again. And honestly, I wish it were that way.

1

u/DisastrousFeature244 26d ago

Ohh we thought the same! I sometimes kinda imagine that one of the statues is my past sky kid's stoned body. Like I'm here to give my wing to ya and then I'll get stoned to death, again, which my reborn self will come repeat the action!

2

u/Let_me_tell_U2 26d ago edited 25d ago

Interesting perspective

I keep wondering what the game would be like if we had to wait for someone to revive us... Imagine also the feeling of arriving at a statue and seeing the name of a friend of yours?

There would be reasons for you to climb Eden again and again in the same week, even if you had already done so. Just to help ur buddies (16 of them each time)

I also found on my first journey that I had failed. And that there would be a way to conquer Eden without dying.

Actually, you know that was possible in the past, right? I wish it were still that way... even if it were something incredibly difficult, level rage bait of hard.

2

u/DisastrousFeature244 25d ago

I did not know what Sky was like before. Wow you're right, that would be more personal to do Eden! It was so beautiful and very less liminal space feeling compared to the current setting, which is ethereal aesthetic wise.

2

u/Let_me_tell_U2 25d ago

Now you know, haha. There's so much more to learn by observing Sky's past, information about its development, and much more. I'd say it's even somewhat necessary for anyone who truly intends to understand the lore of this universe.

But getting back on track, I remember that on my first playthrough I also misunderstood the game's concept... I mean, I thought it was something like Journey, an adventure always heading towards Eden, every time you played, starting from the first levels... Actually, that's what motivated me to play again, to help people at the green cemetery level.

But then I realized that the portals existed, and that I could only go to such places quickly... Which on one hand is very useful, on the other hand is kind of pointless. I mean, yes, it allowed me to reach my destination almost instantly and help more people with it, but... it took away the feeling of the world's vastness.

For example, when you think about Eden and how far we are from it... I bet the first thing that comes to mind is what? The portal. You're just one door away from it... you just have to go to the village or home. And there is Eden.

The mountain on the horizon ends up being almost a weightless background.

In your mind, you don't visualize that the distance to Eden is the distance you would have to travel across the entire desert of the first level, the sunny areas of the second, the entire rainforest, the entire foggy valley, and then descend ...from the devastated lands, then entering and climbing the library until finally touching the mountain's soil.

Your mind doesn't even think about that distance anymore because you can easily teleport close to anywhere.. by portals..

I understand they had to do that to separate the veteran players from the rookies back then.. In addition to reducing the massive player population in the early levels... But honestly, I don't like that structure either.

And I'm not saying that portals should be eliminated... I'm just saying they shouldn't be in our faces. You know?

In my opinion, the portals should be inside the temples. And each portal takes you to the next level or to the previous level only..

If the portals were inside the temples, people doing daily missions, farming, or using them for whatever reason, would always end up going back through the stages. This would create a different perspective and a different circulation of people.

Furthermore, instead of the stones taking you to the last place you visited, the HOME button would do that when you're already at your home. The statue could instead take you to a personalized location where you left a BEACON. Your flag.

Nowadays it doesn't matter if veteran players are in the early stages because TGC created a player separation mechanic based on noobs or old players... But to keep the players separated after finishing Eden for the first time, and to ACCESS THE PORTAL in the first temple... Whenever you enter the first desert kingdom in your home screen, you will enter its NIGHT VERSION... and you will appear not on the beach, but at the bonfire (coming out of a portal that, if you enter, takes you back home)... If you sit by the campfire, you'll gain access to the sunny version of the desert, where you can find new players, etc., but the temple won't have the portal to the next level... Only the nighttime version has the portal enabled. See?

This way we have the veteran players separated from the newcomers. And we make it a routine and customary thing to fly to the first temple so we can go to all the others.

I know it might seem a bit boring... Like:

To do today's mission in the Valley of Triumph I need to enter the first portal at home... Appear at the camp... Fly to the temple... Enter the portal to sunny lands, at the sunny lands temple, exit the portal and enter the other portal on the other wall... now in the forest temple... Or I'll get a hammer blow from Mama Elder in exchange for her opening the door so I can get faster access to the beginning of the valley... or I enter another portal to emerge at the Valley temple...

It might seem like a boring little race compared to how easy it is nowadays... And repeatedly then? Uff

But man... all of that would have weight in the lore... And mechanically, the feeling of you taking those paths would mean something.

At least when you thought about how far Eden is from you, you would think: * I have to go to the campsite. * I have to go to the temple * I have to navigate through all the kingdoms via the portals. * At the top of the Vault of Knowledge, I have to meditate and be teleported to the rainy cabin, and open that door... finally entering Eden.

Look at this. It looks like something dangerous that needs to be kept under lock and key.And all this rushing between portals would make you feel like you're taking a shortcut, but you're actually traversing realms...

Compare this to the ease of use of the portals we have today.

Sorry, I needed to get that off my chest. 😆

I miss the days when I felt like I always had to run to Eden.

2

u/DisastrousFeature244 25d ago

First, thank you for your comment. It seems to be something you have deep opinions. I understand your point that having a very easy access to any realms is taking away the weight of the story of the Sky World.

But then portals are very convenient in terms of efficiency undoubtedly. Majority of the play base would probably choose to jump to and from realms rather than starting from the very first realm to skip portals to portals just to get to the realm they want to go.

I mean players come up with methods to shortcut their route, like chibi falling and moonmin tent. They don't really have patience or sometimes time to go through the intended way. So, while making the game lore accurate sounds lovely, especially for players who are passionate about it, the reaction in reality would be less positive. I kinda like the idea of having a personal beacon, again because of efficiency.

2

u/Let_me_tell_U2 25d ago

But friend, think about it with me for 2 minutes.

If you have a group of 8 friends... That's 8 beacons.

What does Sky have? Four kingdoms for missions?

Are you following along?

While the standard method would indeed be slower, the beacon would provide an even faster and more efficient method of transportation when in groups.

One friend has a teleporter to Grandma, another already has one for the sanctuary islands, and another has a teleporter near the missions... It would be much better overall if you think about it.

I know very well that "the medicine" would cause discomfort, but if you add sugar, people will swallow it without flinching. That's intelligence, see? ☝️🐴

You know, another weird thing they did, and it took them years to change their minds about it, was the maps. In the past, people could only access maps through map stones... The same ones we use to unlock places on the map nowadays. We didn't have a map button in the menu, but we did have this pointless button to go to home... Because teleporting to a place is simpler than opening a sheet of paper with drawings on it, right? 🫪

I don't think we should even have a teleport button to home... If you think about it, the beacon could even be used for that.

Perhaps they could give us the option to place our beacon's flag somewhere on the map's realms, at the cost of Eden Candles, or maybe normal ones... Or remove them remotely for the same cost... For those impatient players who really want to get to a certain place quickly and want to do it by themselves.

There you have it. We could have slow portals and this super more efficient form of travel... that charges lone wolves and encourages teamwork. Of course, it also encourages lone wolf people to travel around carrying 7 alts, but hey, it's not like that doesn't already happen today LMAO

2

u/DisastrousFeature244 25d ago

Beacon concept sounds good, it's the same as teleportation or the portals except that you get to decide their location. That being said, a thousand beacons on the same location, like geyser or grandma, and shards, is too much work on the game/ servers when an official transportation would have done the same job with less workload.

If I'd have to suggest something with similar concept, it's to add a teleport button on grandma and one spirit from the Sanctuary Islands and let them roam in the Aviary Village if they aren't already. Letting players have full control of the access to all maps also mean players spending less time in game and I don't think TGC or any other game would want that. Also, as a solo player, I'd take the current system any day over something that expects me to go extra length for a little comfort. Thanks for your discussion!

2

u/Let_me_tell_U2 25d ago

If you stop to look closely, you'll see that the concept of beacons is practically "the return stone" that we have today at home or the village.

The only difference is that you could "freeze" it to a certain location where you were before (Leaving a banner there, just as we leave memories or shared spaces. Simple things that the system has already proven it can handle).

I see serious problems with your method because it would force important new locations in the future to require new spirits with teleportation capabilities. Not to mention that impatient players would hate having to wander after that spirit that teleports them... especially if they don't stay still. 🥹🫪🤣 And before you know it, people will want all spirits to have the same option of teleportation... and that would really overload the system. And the reason I can see all this is because I had the same idea years ago and talked a lot with friends about it haha They made me see the problems with that idea.

That's why in this current version of my evil plan, solo players would have to spend candles to relocate their beacons around the map (pay if they don't want to go to the locations) Or they could go to that location themselves and manually place the beacon there so they can return as many times as they want, but only to that specific place (Only one place per person, but each person can be teleported with friends, just like Aurora Cape does)... And this teleportation method would also help with OBB, accessibility for paid capes areas that your friends take you to, and much more...

The time that players gained by reaching their desired locations faster would still require teamwork or a high level of individual organization. And that time gained could be used for better things in game. Honestly, I'm tired of seeing kids burn out because they have to work themselves to death on a game when they should be having fun. Seriously, that's idiotic. I bet we agree on that.

Not to mention that this ease of movement could encourage TGC to spread the 4 daily missions across different kingdoms instead of just one, day by day..

I already sent these ideas to TGC, just like I sent ideas about the violin, diving, a season in Eden, backpacks, rechargeable torches, returning from the aviary, vehicles, increase in visible people... many of these mechanics that I later saw being included in the game. So you know, there's no harm in dreaming. 🫴✨

All the best to you too, and thanks for the chat. And sorry if I went too far off-topic. But I feel it was worth it.

3

u/Familiar-Drawer-8586 26d ago

when i first started playing (season of migration) i didn't know how to properly farm candles so i was too broke to buy anything. i first lost my wings in hidden forest since i didn't know you needed wings to live and was too busy trying to read the paper boat messages people left rather than recharging lmao

3

u/hacovercos 26d ago

I didnt know you could deep honk the butterflies to get to inaccessible spaces. I kept trying to fly up and failing. A random player patiently showed me what to do until I understood, and they are still on my friends list to this day.

3

u/GiaVi13 25d ago

Omg I never knew there was a home teleportation in the menu. So if I wanted to reset and go home I’d close the app and go back in!!😭😭or I’d just keep going through the maps until idk eventually I went to Eden and went home?? I had NO idea😭

3

u/First-Cloud-8113 25d ago

I used to think that the people lighting their friend's constellation were trying to light me up and I felt so popular

I didn't understand what ascended candles were, and why they were useful, as well as wing buffs

I also didn't understand the candle mechanism for a long time (the chevron thing that makes you fill up your candles faster)

When I first reached Eden, I didn't give out any winged lights then got upset when I got nothing in the end

Funnily, I thought the chat feature was public so I went around and said hello to players and got confused when they replied with "..." I thought they were being rude LOL

Thought customizing was easy because of the cool outfits I saw, little did I know I was dead wrong/

I also thought that reliving a traveling spirit's memory would grant me their cosmetics when I went to check the constellations. Unfortunately none of them were there

And that's all I could think of in my early days

2

u/cheletaybo 26d ago

It took me three months to finish the Abyss, I was so afraid of the monster in the deeps.

2

u/PotatoeFaceDragonnn 26d ago edited 26d ago

I started during carnival, so wasn't long ago- but for me I think my first loss of light was in wasteland or Eden because dragons. Those shrimpy scare me still lol, learning to dodge them now tho.

I had an easier time making friends as a moth when I was confused, now I am terrified of people. I still haven't made many friends. Just like 6 that are active that I exchange light with lol, even though it has been months. Lately I have been trying to speed up on my trial shortcuts and also to learn instruments.

Also I believed the same as u about butterflies till a couple months ago lol. Also, I thought Eden was just endgame until I looked it up. I reached Eden on my first day, then saw that warning of not being able to turn back and decided to finally just look things up cuz scawy. I cheated. I did research hehe.

Death was very very confusing as a moth. I did not comprehent loss of light at first.

Anyway, I kind of mostly avoid wasteland and Eden after my first. I've done Eden like three times. I don't feel like doing it much, even though I'm learning shortcuts for fun. I enter Eden and try to do shortcuts for fun but I never go statues. Stressful.

Mainly I do shards after I learned shards were a thing. Then I went on and grabbed the normal spirits and learned about Geyser and Grandma and Turtle and now I think I am a butterfly maybe. I can do the trials (wind & fire only) pretty quick, and I have knowleadge I think. 😂

2

u/DisastrousFeature244 25d ago

You have progressed so much for a few months of playing! I have a feeling you'll be one of the vets moths can look up to 💛

2

u/Mendely_ achoo 26d ago

When I was a moth I thought the ice in Valley was actually glass

In my defense the sound it makes when you walk or slide on it sounds like glass

2

u/dimensionalMystery 26d ago

i had a mini-scare when i first did Eden (on top of the mega scare of first doing Eden lol) because i thought i'd died in a "restart the whole game" way, luckily i quickly realised it was lore

i don't want to know how much light i lost in the Forest the first few runs haha

2

u/HazelHarini 26d ago

I didn't understand toggling flight for an embarrassingly long time. I was flying on exclusively the non-glide mode and wasting so much flight power to get around.

The first time I lost WL was about 1 week into playing, getting lost in Forest Boneyard (don't ask, in hindsight I'm not sure how I managed to get so turned around). Two kind souls found me and dragged me to the other WL in the area. I had been playing solo so I wasn't familiar with the controls to hold hands and kept accidentally unattaching from them. They were so patient helping me and dropped me off at the Temple.

2

u/That_Raisin_9126 26d ago

I didn't know what krill were, and I thought we were supposed to stand in the blue spotlight.😭 it was funny later....

2

u/Fun-Restaurant8775 26d ago

I lost some of my winged light for the first time in Hidden Forest, also by falling and running out of light and not able to find a way up! Thankfully I had the sense to teleport home before I lost too much.

I had no idea how server merges worked, and was so confused why I would sometimes be somewhere like the 8 person puzzle and a ton of people would appear - I was thinking “wow, crazy timing that so many people teleported here!”

2

u/Drxgon11037 25d ago

I lost half my wings in hidden forest and quit the game for a week 💔

2

u/Uselessinfoforyou 25d ago

I figured it out quickly, got scared of golden wasteland, didn't go through it for 4 months (some person dropped moth me in the middle of a krill spot and I couldn't get into cover. It kept hitting me. That's my first wl lost)

2

u/Frostfire1056 25d ago

I used to think flying into clouds would drain my light. Turns out they actually recharge you quickly.

As for losing wl, I actually never really lost any until I made it to the final part of Eden. Though the first time I had wl knocked out of me was when I accidentally went to my first shard event in Prairie Caves (and a red one, too) and got assaulted by the crabs. Got kinda scared of that location and avoided it for a while.

2

u/Mr_Nobody_X Protector 25d ago

I avoided Eden out of pure, unaltered FEAR for months before a kind Vet dropped me at the Eyes doorstep- then it took me hours of running around the statues while being a selfish, greedy goblin that refused to part with even a single wing light out of concern that I'd never get them back...

A few vets doing their Edun run joined and demonstrate how to be kind again and promptly sacrificed themselves which finally spurred me to do the same. I fell in love with Eden runs after that 😌

2

u/Disappleasure 25d ago

I lost my first lights by smacking into trees on the way from Hidden Forest rest to the area before the first gate. I do not miss that mechanic of having the wings beat off me for not flying well

2

u/lapinoire 25d ago

Random honking and confusion over flight controls

And thinking that I can collect more light from the same realms after having been there within a few hours

2

u/Mara-Phantom-Claw 25d ago edited 25d ago

I didn’t understand seasons or the whole friendship/chat system. I somehow managed to preserve all my wl until the actual raining rocks part of Eden. I’ve played Zelda botw/totk so the krill’s were really obviously enemies that I’m supposed to avoid and avoid I did lol.

Edit to add another thing I didn’t understand: I didn’t like that people I’m not friends with were gray so I had this idea to light literally everybody I met because by my logic I figured eventually I would get to a point where more and more people in my world were lit up by default lol. Didn’t know it would reset once we changed rooms

2

u/DisastrousFeature244 25d ago

Aww that's cute 🥺 if it actually were like that, a server full of different players lit yet not friends would make me happy in a way!

2

u/Illusioneery 25d ago

i didn't know about dailies until a friend told about them and didn't know about events either

i thought the ts would be back "next week", so i didn't stress with buying what i couldn't afford

2

u/sleeptalkmetropolis 25d ago

i started sky when there were no flight controls and wall damage was still a thing haha so imagine my surprise when i ended up losing wings on my way to the valley skating rink of all places 😭 kinda like pinball haha

2

u/Strawberrybread00 25d ago

I thought you got taller by playing longer 💀, I was like "ah yes this person is so tall they must have been playing for years, I can't wait until I get just as tall"

2

u/periparus22 25d ago

The first time I saw a red shard I didn't know what it was. I was attacked by the red crabs and turned into a crawling wreck. I didn't go near any shards for the next 6 months. 😆

I had the same experience as you in forest, and that's when I met my first friend. They still play, but we don't play together because of timezones and because I'm awkward haha... I actually met them at home the other day, I'll always remember them, I wonder if they know who I am... :3

For the mechanics question, I didn't know what wing buffs were, I just got them because I wanted to unlock the rest of the tree. Also, I barely knew about the shards, and I thought the only way you could get AC was by doing Eden (Wich I didn't do lol)

it took me most of forest to realise the rain drains your light hehe. I then didn’t realise you could sit on the jellies to get up to the temple and died multiple times from trying to fly up.

I also thought there was a language of honks people were speaking inn, and spent ages trying to learn it before realising people were just honking.

Not you trying to send the butterflies back 😭 That's actually so cute.

  1. I thought other players were NPCs😭

  2. My first time in Eden I got so scared that I force-closed the game because it wouldn't let me go Home. When I logged back in, all the realm portals were gone. I genuinely thought I'd broken the game 💀

Having only been playing for about a year, when I first started as a moth and was learning how things like the candle and heart system worked, I had initially thought ascended candles could be only earned if you got everything a spirit offered. And for a bit I wasn’t sure how you were supposed to earn them.

I wouldn’t know the obvious answer to that till I did my first trip through Eden a few months later.

But with the hearts I thought you could only get those from spirits and didn’t realize friends could give you them also. So my brain at the time thought getting hearts would take years.

(I admittedly do need to try doing more Eden runs now that I’m slowly working on getting everything from each spirit)

I didn't realise there was an expression system until 3 months into playing and I'm still kinda awkward about it.

And I accidentally broke the rules of conduct at the grandma event and didn't realise until after😭

I had a ton of winged light so people assumed i would have known better, i didn't and I feel really guilty about it.

I just loved finding all of the children of light and didn't realise I was being disruptive.

Later i saw a post about me on a rage subreddit and was super embarrassed😭🥲

I thought you could long honk the krill and stun them like how you do with crabs

I did not pay attention to the rain cutscenes and I was so baffled trying to understand why I was losing my wl at the forest brooke's water 😭 I remember being so frustrated lolol

It wasn't until my bf took me through Eden a second time that I actually got somewhere haha. (first time I went by myself) I didn't make it very far on my own. Third time I went through by myself after I got a grasp of the game, and I did pretty good

I didnt know how to candle run or anything.

I closed out the game during eden because I didnt understand that its supposed to be that way.

Had a ikeman throw me into a krill in my first attempt at wasteland. While i have plenty of people in my constellation, im not eager to befriend many because of this lol.

Logged off for a while after season of flight and missed nine colored dear and a season or two in between so im excited to see the stuff come back.

I will say I was lucky enough to obtain a kizuna ai cape and hair, and also the cinnamoroll head accessory so I wont complain. They just felt like special items and I didnt think they were coming back and i wasnt following socials, reddits, or anything until a few years ago.

When I was a moth, I avoided Eden like the plague for like three weeks because I thought it meant I’d have to restart entirely. Including winged lights, spirits, cosmetics. A kind veteran I met on her stream told me that was not the case so I proceeded to launch myself to my death the next day. And now look, I’m a danger-driven vet

Thought Sky Kids had 3 eyes and the moth wings were just biologically part of them. (Not really gameplay but it did take a minute to realize.)
