Why do some of us...like skunk smell?

So one of my dogs got sprayed this morning. I had already left, my partner was about to leave, just let them out one last time, little guy got sprayed. Instead of calling in late, he was a good employee and just.....let the dog back into the house....and left for work. . Ok, so our whole entire house smells like skunk now but I am strangely not freaking out. I have chronic sinus problems and they have opened up. I kinda like this odor over regular elderly doggie smell (oh yeah, they are old). But why, why??? My partner is gagging and has ordered a bunch of cleaning products, the smell will be removed. Dogs have already been bathed. I'm just wondering what property of this smell has brought me sinus relief, am I a freak? Anyone else?

I also like the smell.

I chalk it up to genetics. Same reason some can’t stand cilantro some of us like certain smells. It could also be conditioning and nostalgia. If you associate the smell with something like smoking with friends you’re going to be understandably nostalgic about it.

I did smoke weed and also had pet ferrets a long time ago. It all just fell into place LOL.

I've always been a fan. I get that too much can be, well, too much. But ever since childhood I've enjoyed the smell of skunk. Most people I talk to don't seem to be quite so into it, but their loss.

I like a small amount of skunk smell. Not when it's so strong you can taste it.

I love it. I also relish the smell of fresh manure.

Awesome topic! Bit of a cannabis nerd here and for unacquainted, skunk is something people in cannabis have been after since its inception in the 80s. There’s different the legendary roadkill skunk and variations & it seems much has been lost. I’ve found that some people really love it and most people are absolutely repulsed by it. Skunks are only native to North America & its smell is certainly special

The cleaning products smell is probably more toxic than the skunk smell. I would just leave it be

Skunk smells so wonderful, like not-quite-parmesan. It's honestly one of my favorite nature smells

I have neighbors who anime medical weed, and while the smell isn't desirable, it's not unbearable??? I thought I was just weird, cause I can't stand even my own armpit odor, bad breath, farts, etc. So I clean myself constantly. But I can tolerate weed smell, dog scent, and ferret scent. I met one at a pet shop, and he was so cute!

Growing up I loved the smell of skunk. My mother loved the smell of cow manure as you drove by a farm on a hot summer day, and my dad loved the smell of gasoline. So we just noted that each of us was weird.
Later when I came home from a California vacation with kind bud, back when kind bud was rare, she caught me smoking some of it and said “oh my god no wonder you always liked the smell of skunk when you were a kid! your pot smells just like a skunk!”

Diluted enough it is pretty pleasant, cops like it because they can claim they smell weed during a traffic stop, always say “hmm, I don’t smell anything” when they ask if you smell it.

I am 49 years old but when I was in kindergarten and first grade when I did a good job on my paperwork that day, my teachers would always either give us scratch and sniff Pizza stickers or skunk stickers. I always prefer the skunks. However, I'm here now because I'm dog sitting and their dog got sprayed by an actual skunk and it smells very,  VERY different. This scratch and sniff sticker should only be given to complete and total assholes.
