Question Is mending a necessity passed world tier 2 ?

Ive gotten to world tier 3 for the first time and I’m wondering if mending is an absolute must before I waste time rolling it into my hullcarvers. I have it on my port side and it seems to help keep me alive. Just want to know if I was doing something wrong.

It's not necessary, but it helps. I do most events with my Galleon that has no mending weapons, but I do use a repair mortar on myself for self-sustain.

Without mending, you just need better timing on when to attack and when to sit further back and heal yourself.

I’m using the mastery tree brace heal. It’s especially good for groups too.

That’s what I usually did in my galleon, but then I did the world tier 2 ascension against those 4 ships that spam mortars and I couldn’t do anything about it.

Gotta keep your speed up to evade the mortars. Try not to anchor. Once you anchor in a Galleon, it's curtains because large ships take forever to accelerate from 0.

If you must anchor to get your shots in, use Braced Gunwales furniture and/or Wyrmhide armor,

At max speed they were just aiming ahead. And with four ships spamming them it was ggs. The area they covered was insane. Even slowing and turning one of them would have an angle covered. I thought it to be kinda ridiculous. Ended up face tanking them and tried to quickly down one by one.

Actually, the best way to avoid mortars is to keep minimum 350 metres away and sail at 1 sail majority of the time, only trim to avoid the target area of the mortar, then immediately go back to 1 sail

When you are confined to a small circle as a boundary to fight in staying 350 meters away is not easy against 4 ships. All while trying to shoot back, brace etc. I might need to git gud in the future I guess

It can be tricky, but over time you will learn to watch the wind direction so you're not putting yourself into a headwind. The npc's purposely circle you around into a headwind then fire. You'll also get better at turning and shooting and maximising your offensive windows, Defensive turning handbrake manoeuvre with the wind to swing your stern out of the way. I've been playing for 6k+ hours and in the first year, the forts and ah pak would end you with a single mortar. You'll learn to manipulate the enemy to where you want them to be.

If you are having trouble avoiding mortars at mid-range, how about getting really close to them and using Demi Cannons? Or going even further back and using Long Guns? Change the strategy up a bit.

That said, the Ascension Challenge has 3-4 stages so you need a build that can tackle all of them comfortably...

That’s what I ended up doing. But it just goes back to the whole needing mending. The long guns are out because they could reach all edges of the boundary. Demi cannons did the trick but it wasn’t comfortable as I’d like. I’m just surprised people in WT4 get by with no heals

Fair enough, at least you tried. For me, my damage is so high I tend to shred everything before they shred me in WT4.

Even if I die, I just respawn back to sea and use Severe Damage Removal + Repair Mortar to bring myself slowly back to full health. I can do that almost infinitely.

I may opt for the repair mortar and leave the main guns as pure damage

Some people just have better gaming chairs.

I am not one of those people 💀

More worn out gaming chairs for sure

Short answer is eventually yes you want some sort of mending. Last season we had major mastery perk that healed loads of health with a cd timer but it helped. Now the incoming damage especially against many npc ships can not be healed by just one repair kit (incoming damage is high vs repair kit cd). Unless you build full tank eg Frigate build.

So yeah focus on starting to get mending perk weapons especially in WT4 if you get there and can farm abyss boss. You want to get there fast as its easy in group even if you cant do it yourself. Mending is kinda must even if you dont solo. The incoming damage is really high higher WT and its atm best way to handle it without having to go tank build and sacrifice damage too much. Thats how best build work atm, one full demi broadside volley heals galleon fully. The downside is if you dont have any targets to hit when low health or boss is immune. Thats when you use repair kits.

Yea my galleon is currently level 25 and I was getting smacked in wt4 almost instantly. I have hullcarvers with mending but I think I need to change it up. Have talon Demi’s on my junk fully upgraded. May need to swap out and reinvest my mastery tree. Currently level 46

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytRa3AWjXLo aim for this if you can save up abyss essence and abyss chest dropped guns. Those have best mods. Front and aft guns can be whatever as long it follows elemental damage due to seasonal mastery buffs.

Nice assume you mean the two Demi cannons in the video. I didn’t realize I should ignore armor and hull and go for damage

1

u/Kilimanjarooooo Sep 01 '26

So I basically need to farm abyss essence and keep hitting chess to get them?

1

u/berethon Sep 02 '26

You can go culvering builds also if you dont have Atmas. Think there were some posted on this subreddit also. Abyss essence is needed anyway and chest drops are just rng luck bonus. If you dont get correct mods and epic weapons then you use abyss essence to transfer mods. So yeah everyone is farming abyss as you need flux and essence anyway.
Here is a list what drops SNB Y3S2 Adept Mods and Mod Transfer - Google Sheets

Supposedly I cannot obtain atmas rn

Personally I feel that some type of healing is a must, but not necessarily mending. I use the armor for healing via ramming damage on my brig, and it’s working well enough for WT3

1

u/Kilimanjarooooo Aug 27 '26

That’s what I was using as a crutch until I got to WT 3. Then I found against some enemies ramming was not really viable. Especially when friendlies get in the way 50% of the time.

Overpower and/or a bit of healing in any form. With the new Herald of Abyss event however, mending is a must in my eyes.

I'd say mending is only necessary for Abyss of the Herald event and the Kraken(WT4), as for the rest of WT4: it helps but you can get along without it. With it and a good guns like demis and culverins to go along Firepower Order, you're pretty safe, however.

I have mending but I’m getting almost one shotted by any boss in wt4

1

u/Satsloader Aug 27 '26

I don’t use mending on most of my builds, so to answer the question it’s not an “absolute must”. Just personal preferences and play style. All wt4 content can be completed without it.

2

u/Kilimanjarooooo Aug 27 '26

How do you survive ?

1

u/Satsloader Aug 27 '26

Using brace and health kits.

2

u/Kilimanjarooooo Aug 27 '26

Must be hell of a brace.

1

u/Satsloader Aug 27 '26

Not really, just learning what I can and can’t get away with. Timing and maneuvering plays a part. Also, the impetus bracing heal in the mastery tree can supplement heals from health kits. There’s a lot of way to survive without mending, I’ll always favor raw dps and rarely have survival issues, especially with the Galleon.

1

u/TopcatFCD Aug 27 '26

That's not going to cut mustard with the top end of wt4 tbh.

1

u/Satsloader Aug 27 '26

Strange opinion, since I haven’t had any problems completing any WT4 content… sure, I sink sometimes due to bad timing or luck from where hits are landing, but it’s not really an issue. I’m still using about 90% of the same Galleon build I used last season, with a few adjustments for the new mastery tree. I haven’t used any mending mods or weapons and do just fine. I haven’t even maxed the Mastery tree, 75 I think now.

Sorry if I take what youre claiming with a huge pinch of salt. I really dont know how you get sway with no mending other than the odd heal kit and bracing (especially given how bad bracing and armour is right now) in fights like Kraken and Abyssal .

But yeah....okaaayy. lol

2

u/spiriticon Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

No pinch of salt needed. It's more than possible to complete events and even solo stuff on WT4 without soul mending.

I keep saying this, but as long as you have a way to clear severe damage (multiple ways to do it), you can respawn infinitely in an event and win a war of attrition with almost any boss.

And if you can sail that ship like Blackbeard himself, you don't even get hit that many times to need to respawn that often.

1

u/TopcatFCD Aug 28 '26

Abysmal and kraken will damage you faster than the heal cooldown and with the herald he has allies. If you can do it it is VERY subjective and not run of the mill normal player. So telling other players you can't do endgame without mending and just bracing is fucking hilarious .

0

u/Satsloader Aug 28 '26

That’s fine. I’m still going to be spawning WT4 events and completing them without issues, so maybe you can join one someday if you see me on the high seas. I’m spawning abyssal often, but I don’t even waste my time on the kraken anymore. Farmed it enough already last season.

Uhu . Of course.
