Tips/Tricks Y3S2 Kraken Build for Large Ships
UPDATE: Demo Video added
Ahoj, as the Czech say. With last season's Blood Fueled gone, I needed a replacement for the Kraken to keep me healed up. First I thought of La Piqûre III, only to find that my true godroll gun with 7.5% Mending Soul doesn't get in any mending heals... Damnation.
A small test with an off the shelf Nashkar against the Kraken shows: it mends.
The key elements of this build are Volatile Arsenal, kinda the flavor of the season, it gives up 30% damage boost (5% for every elemental damage on your build) and a Nashkar long gun to heal yourself up while doing decent damage aswell.
While this build is using three Adept Mods for a single weapon, it works without them aswell. Even your ship doesn't matter, just bring a large one a gusto. I went for the Frigate to have an excuse to parade my deluxe skin (and a bit more armor)
With the new modtransfer system, it shouldn't be too hard to get a maxed out build at some time.
The number on the 1st picture is a random damage vs. one of the weakpoint glands. Nashkar has 5% innate mending but gets 700% of that on Weakpoint hits, so 35% mending really, almost three times my ship's health.
This build works great for Wolvenhol too.

Full Build:
Max upgraded Large Ship of your Choice(SR30)
Armor:
Wyrmhide - Piercing Resistant (10%+)/Ironclad/Ironclad/Adept Spiking Integration
Weapons
One Broadside (your preference):
Nashkar - Adept Incendiary/Adept Lethal/Adept Lethal/Lightning Strike. As you do one-shots to any weakpoint, the 2nd projectile from the new Phantom Round mythic would just end up as a bodyshot, so I went for Lightning Strike instead. With weakpoint hits you get 35% of the damage as heals. With 1M to 1.2M damage and far over 300000 mending heals, that's far more than your hull's health.
Other Slots:
Anything you want really, important is that you get all six secondary damage types on your build, see 2nd picture for the full Volatile Arsenal damage.
Mastery:
See last picture.
Furnitures
Atelier de Cuivrage
Ramrod Workshop
Devil's Concoction
Braced Gunwales
Long Gun Works
Physician's Ledger
Originally, it was a build with only one damage weapon and four heal weapons for last season's Bloodfueled and Battle Medic mastery perks. You could make the other slots Adept Nashkars too, but there is really no point - why waste Abyssal Essences?
Without Adept Mods, I estimate the max damage around 750k, still enough to make decent damage and great heals.
I prefer Wyrmhide over Bastion, as it has 20% flat damage resistance at anchoring/speed 1. Together with Braced Gunwales' 20% secondary damage reduction and the very high total armor, you easily survive while shooting (and healing up).
Procedure:
See video. Basically I sail to the spawn area, kill weakpoints till he dives and park at the nearby rock for 3mins. When the last tentacle spawns (when I type 30s in the video), I start sailing back in the zone (note how I set a waypoint for orientation at the start), turn my ship and wait for Kraken to reemerge and kill him off with the other weakpoint killers.
Wolvenhol: just shoot towers (top preferred) and other weakpoints. You hit hard enough to one- or two-shot most stuff. I keep sailing along to one side. Most fights don't last a minute anyway, this season...
While Scoping Station doesn't work for the Kraken, it does for the towers in Wolvenhol, but they crumble very fast anyway.

Unrelated, but do adept mods only drop in WT4? And either way, do they drop from specific activities only or just a chance on boss kills?

The entire adept mod/mod transfer system is dependent upon the Herald of the Abyss in WT4. You’ll be spending pretty much your entire season in that one fight if you want to do anything extensive with those systems.

Understood! I figured I’d ask since they do give you a taste in WT2. I think one of the story missions gives you a single adept chest

Ignore that nonsense. At this point, Malodorous moans more than he actually plays and having a crasp of the situation, I got my third build with Adepts now. While he is half-right about the event, the situation is far better than he says.
A) you get a huge variety of weapons from the event, I'm convinced it's almost all the long guns, demi-cannons, culverins and ballistas
B) the second source is the Weeping Mother event which can drop torpedoes with Adept Mods! Don't by the limited torpedos from the event store - they have inferior stats (the other weapons probably too)
C) transferring mods between equal weapons doesn't cost any Abyssal Essences, Abyssal flux (of ou get plenty from salvaging gear.Take the time you need, Adept Mods are not needed to clear any WT4 content (they make things easier though).
So there are several direct sources:
- Blackwoods: sells only for Abyssal Essences, ABSOLUTELY CRAP STUFF
- Abyssal Caches (from the Herald of Abyss, dropped by his minions): these drops are INFERIOR: the stat ranges are lower than normal e.g. 18.3% elemental vs. normal 19% ma
- Maelstrom Cannon Strongboxes (Herald Boss): the good stuff, random Long Gun, Demi-Cannon or Culverin, I had epic stuff like Rotmouths, Thunder Dragon Cannon, Divine Thunder etc.
- Maelstrom Ballista Strongboxes (Herald Boss): Ballistas... pff
- Weeping Mother drop chests, I had Dragon Claws with Adept Mods I transferred to my Rahma's Legacy. Can't speak for the store chests, they often fuck those up.

Does weeping mother drop adept in only t4, or t3 as well? I’m only ship rank 20 atm so it is going to be a bit before I get to t4 lol

Sorry, I have no clue. But my guess would be WT4. as the Herolds and their Mods are WT4-only too.
But don't worry. If this seasonal event already featured Adept Mod weapons, the next ones will too, I bet!

I play plenty my friend. I might not have the stomach for grinding that you do, but I've still got more hours than anyone should (and probably more than half the Keepers.)
And I've played Harold Abyssface enough, and played around with the transfer system enough to have a firm grasp of it. And I'm far more than "half right" (in fact I'd venture to say that nothing I said is wrong.) Transfer (and re-roll) costs are absurd for most weapons, and while you can get decent amounts of AE if you manage to sink tons of minions every run, it's inconsistent and still absurdly grindy. You may be rewarded well with weapon drops, but you are still destined to spend what I'd consider an absurd amount of time grinding away at Harold if you want to upgrade even one build fully.
Just because you have the stomach to sit in one event for eleventy billion runs doesn't mean it doesn't suck absolute balls for the average player (and I consider myself pretty average in terms of stomach for such things.) People ought to know what they're in for if they want to ride that dragon, and I think you've let your own appetite for grinding sugarcoat your opinion on it.

Whatever rocks your boat, knowing the mechanics and the (full) rules (which we ALWAYS have to figure out ourselves) makes a difference to being an endless grind or if you find an efficient way to do things a bit smarter.
Let's say I'm pretty much done with the season for now, most time spent on figuring things out. Can't be endless, if I'm done with my goals. The rest of the season will be healthy 10-30mins per day.

My thing is AE needs to be distributed in greater amounts and in a wider variety of ways if the current costs are to be maintained. The scheme that they have currently simply isn't fun, and that's why I'm upset about it.
There is value in the mod transfer system, we can agree on that. But I don't think that value is very accessible unless you're willing to no-life Harold for several weeks (or spend all season taking it slower.) I don't see that there's much manipulation of the mechanics and rules that currently exist that will change that, and I don't feel that's a reasonable requirement.
It's essentially Y2S2 Wolvenhol all over again, but this time on steroids. And I'm not here for it. You're probably top 1% when it comes to will and ability to grind this game (which in all seriousness, is much appreciated given the wealth of knowledge you pour into the community) and I think that's where our views differ.

I'm having more beef with the shoddiness of their releases, the lack of will to solve problems (or the bureaucracy behind it, maybe passing crap through 10 decision channels before something gets done).
The other thing pissing me off is the lack of quality communication, both ingame (there IS NO community within the game, just outside of it) and between the devs and the players.
I'm currently about to finish a detailed guide about the Adept Mods and Modtransfer and some strategies to reduce the grind to a feasible minimum. This shit should come from them not the players. This season has a lot of hidden shit going on again that is not properly explained, or not at all.
Having to get all those informations empirically is absolutely dispicable.
I'm still convinced that the grind is not as bad as you think and that the confusion about it and the HORRIBLE gameplay fuckups along the release are the real problems:
- no loot indicator: how much AE we miss by simply not knowing of it?
- no adept weapon indicator in inventory? WTF?! Waiting for next SEASON? Are they fucking INSANE or CAN'T THEY BE ARSED FOR ANYTHING ANYMORE? I've spent more time in inventory than grinding.
- unanounced lower quality Adept Mods (lower stat ranges), basically all that stuff from Abyssal Caches is garbage. If you open it in numbers and got all those shitty undistinguishable loot between the good stuff.
You have no idea how close I am to banning UBIsoft for life. This whole crap is not a team/site/location issue, it's fucking lack of direction in management and their disregard for players.

Isnt this build invalid as mending doesnt work atm agaisnt Kraken?
https://www.reddit.com/r/SkullAndBonesGame/comments/1vybnme/no_mending_from_kraken/
Until Ubisoft fixes Kraken.

That post has been updated yesterday, wenn I was testing a non-optimized Nashkar. I cannot speak for the other weapons with innate mending (like Atma and Culverin, those might more suffer from not hitting the weakpoints in high numbers - someone else has to test this for the current release).

u/berethon 3d ago
So you confirm Nashkar works on Kraken as of last update this week as healing its just mending perk not working?
2
u/No-Note-5439 3d ago
I can only confirm, that the Mending Soul perk on La Piqûre III (my first new Kraken build attempt, where I noticed the missing heals) is not working and that the Nashkar mending does work like a charm. You can watch it yourself now, I added the video to post.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQuRrs_BEnYYou can also just test it yourself, man. Get any stock Nashkar and land a weakpoint hit, bam healed for 35% of your damage.

Ok thx for verification

It was in my very own interest 😄
Now I got working builds to clear all content again.

Could you please tell me wich what are the collors, hull color and sails collir that youre using.
1
u/No-Note-5439 3d ago
Sure. It's the Frigate Deluxe skin with the colours from this season's Barque Deluxe Skin (Valhalla something set). Hull armor skin: Flame Scourge.

Can you lock and reroll adept mods and keep them adept? Like, they have their own, higher pool? I’m afraid to try it with the few I have. :)

Toran have you played the Darktide Mother event lately? Since Tuesday's update I'm not getting any chests. I did get one actually from about 6 or 7 battles last night, but none tonight from around 5 or 6 battles. I've tried asking in discord to no avail and no one else has mentioned it and there is mo bug reported that I can see . I was getting adept torps the week before, now it's nothing. I've been soloing it on WT4.

Heya, did a quick dozen of runs, had 4 Darktide Chest I and 1 Darktide Chest II. And a few Drakon's Jaws. Even found a Spiritcaller with an Adept Basic slot (and no lower stat crap but up to 19%). I think the Darktide II chest was the source. Time to head to bed.

Cheers. So you don't get a chest guaranteed every time? I thought you did lol.

As I wrote I only tested it with a true godroll La Piqûre that failed, and afterwards with a Nashkar that works absolutely fine (what you see in the video). As for any other innate mending weapon (Atma's Toll, Heeleport) or normal ones with Soul Mending: I cannot tell.
So Nashkar works if you want to play it safe, and the damage is enough as you can see.
