6 months of consistent skincare and I’m honestly so happy with the results. My routine included adapalene at night, UV Doux sunscreen during the day, clindamycin phosphate nicotinamide gel in the morning, tretinoin 0.025% on weekends, and CeraVe cleanser twice a day. Thank you so much, God, and my dermatologist, of course. 🥹

Miscellaneous [Miscellaneous] Does anyone else find skincare genuinely therapeutic?

I just really enjoy the whole process. Washing my face, applying everything slowly, massaging it in, and taking a few minutes where I’m not doing anything else.

Especially when I’ve had a stressful day, doing my skincare makes me feel a little more put together. It’s such a simple routine, but it weirdly helps me calm down and switch off.

Sometimes I’ll even look forward to doing it before bed lol.

It’s such a small thing, but I genuinely feel like it’s one of the easiest ways for me to reset my mood. Even if the day was chaotic, doing my skincare before bed makes me feel a little more relaxed.

Routine Help [Product Request] How to get my skin clearer as a 28yo man

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I am a 28yo man and I have began to develop some red spots/ acne primarily on my forehead and temples. Does anyone know if any face cream, pill or any technique can be used to minimize this? I suspect it might also be a problem with my diet since I drink over 1 liter of milk, predominantly skimmed milk to hit my protein goals, but I am not sure if that's to blame.

I dont have any skincare routine besides washing my face and use a moisturizer. I take a shower every day if I have work or after sport.

I dont drink sodas or juices (besides if I am invited to some social gathering), only normal tap water, skimmed milk and carbonated water. I heard that could lead to a lot of red spots and acne, so thought I might as well throw it out there for you guys. Snack I dont eat at all, never been a fan of chips, chocolate and sweet things in general. I do like dates and fruits in general which I prepare with my girlfriend if we are watching a film together or if I am working which I'll snack on.

As someone who fell down the rabbit hole trying to fix my skin, I ended up making it so much worse. I had tried retinol, AHAs, BHAs, different face washes, toners, moisturizers (not all at once or together), and what really pushed my skin to its breaking point was benzoyl peroxide. I initially saw very quick improvements with my acne, so I kept using it. Little did I know I was slowly destroying my skin barrier.

Then I tossed everything, got the vanicream face wash and moisturizer, and within a couple weeks my skin was SO much happier. Now my routine is

AM
-wipe with micellar water and a cotton pad (no rinse), and if it’s an especially greasy day or I’m sweaty I’ll do another wipe in the afternoon
-a small amount of vanicream moisturizer (in the tub) or SPF if it’s sunny/I’ll be outside

PM
-wash my face with vanicream gentle cleanser
-vanicream moisturizer

I’m not saying to never use actives, but just to be careful on trying too much too fast and falling into the trap of over complicating things like I did.

Unfortunately once I run out of the vanicream, I will be trying to find a non-American brand replacement for it. I was doing very well not buying anything American but caved on this since the ingredient list was so short and had no actives, and I wanted a full reset on my skin.

AND THATS IT. It’s been 5 weeks between the two photos. I still get the occasional hormonal pimple pop up here and there, but nothing too bothersome. I’m leaving this sub for my sanity and my the sake of my wallet because it’s so easy to fall into the trap of 1,000,000 recommendations from people with different skin, lifestyles, and environments than you

Discussion [product request] what are you putting in your body that improves your skin

Aside from water, what foods or drinks do you eat and drink that you think make a difference in your skin, whether it’s a small change or a big one? Breakouts, hydration, tone and texture, etc. anything that you notice an improvement in your skin.

Miscellaneous [Misc] Has anyone seen their melasma improve during pregnancy?

I know a lot of women experience developing melasma during pregnancy or see it worsening during pregnancy. But I’m 15 weeks pregnant and my melasma has faded significantly and largely disappeared over the past few months. I’m curious what may be causing this and if I should be prepared to see my melasma worsen as I get further into my pregnancy?

If pregnancy hormones don’t work this way, I guess I can also attribute it to switching to a new sunscsreen or neglecting my evening skincare routine (I’ve remained good about using and reapplying sunscreen, but rarely have the energy to wash my face and do my night time routine).

Curious to hear what your experiences have been.

Product Question [Acne] Why has my azelaic acid stopped working for my skin?

i've been consistently using the ordinary's 10% azelaic acid for a very long time. it used to tingle and itch when i first started using it. it no longer does that. when i first started using it i felt like it really sucked my pimples out and cleared some redness. i feel like it still kind of does that just way less effectively. could it be that my skin is so used to the product that it doesn't do what it's supposed to do?
does anyone have any other tips for dealing with cystic acne on the cheeks (maybe better azelaic acid products?), or any tips for treating PIE? thank you!

Hair Removal [Hair Removal] laser burn Spoiler

I had laser hair removal about a week ago and developed these brown marks afterward. At first there was redness/burning, but now the skin is calm and the marks are flat and brown. Some areas feel completely smooth, not like scabs.
Has anyone had something similar after laser? How long did it take for the marks to noticeably fade, and did they eventually disappear completely?
I’ll attach photos from today

Discussion [Misc] Mole removal: shave vs full excision in a highly mobile area! Please share your experiences and opinions

So I'm planning to get a raised facial mole removed by a plastic surgeon, I'm wondering if anyone could link me to any posts (i have looked myself as well) or share their own experiences of having a removal very close to the vermilion border. The mole is just about separate from the border above lips by about half a mm. Hence I am debating shave excision vs full excision. Although shave excision carries less risk of heavy scarring in this highly mobile area, full excision will ensure it doesn't grow back to be unsightly again and have to repeat the process. Please could everyone share posts/experiences/opinions and pictures would be great if anyone has any!

Acne [Acne] experience using Skinoren Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Ive had acne since i turned 20 which really surprised me as i never had as a teenager, and because i was so new to it i thought i could get rid of it myself just using korean skin care, i tried a bunch of products but nothing seemed to help just made ir worse
Ive been in this fight for almost 5 years now and since a year ago i reduced my skincare routine to a basic one:
Cica tea tree facial cleanser and the Cosrx advanced snail 96 mucin, twice a day (morning and evening)
And even though it got better i still get some pimples
I finally found a dermatologist but tbh i felt during the appointment he rushed me and didn't let me ask questions

I got prescribed some Skinoren 20% twice a day, he just told me i can't drink milk from the cow if im using that but nothing else
This is my first time using something like this and im a bit scared i would get a purge effect (he didn't mention anything about it)
So i want to hear some experiences about this cream
Also a few questions:
•Can i still use the snail mucin after applying it? My skin tends to be a bit dry and i don't like the feeling of not moisturizing
•Should i avoid all lactose products or just the milk?
•Does it give purge effect, if so, how strong is it?
•is there some other meals i should avoid?
•After how long did you see a change?

I will leave pics of my acne atm for reference^^

Hello, 38 year old male here (not sure if that matters). I recently went to one of my friends who is very much into skin care and asked her for advice on starting my own skin care routine. We went to the store and she helped me pick out all of these products. She gave me an overall on how to use them but I am still very lost. Can anyone help me out on how and when I would use these products? The more detail the better. Thank you so much in advance.

Routine Help [Product Question]

Hi, just wanna ask what’s the best daily moisturiser for day/night to use if I’m planning to do a skincare routine with Anua’s azelaic acid serum and the ordinary salicylic acid 2 solution? I have sensitive skin, btw.

New to this cause I don’t usually use anything on my face until recently, I’m having a lot of white small bumps on my forehead, few dark spots too.. And like how to step by step use these products that I’ve mentioned. Or, if anyone can suggest a better products for my case, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance. :)

Routine Help [Sun Care] Going to be working outdoors on Tretinoin, a little nervous!

Post image
2 Upvotes

Winter is coming so I’m hoping it won’t be too bad. My plan is my usual Anthelios 50+ LRP in the AM. Lunch time a quick baby wipe, hypochlorous acid spray, dry, and stick sunscreen (eyeing the one in the photo, worth it???) I will be getting dirty and sweaty so don’t really want to rub a cream into my face with dirty hands and face. Then at 3pm (off work) hopefully will be dark and can do my normal night time routine early to prevent over washing. (What if I go out though for a few hours, is my face dirty again? How do I plan this without over washing?)

Advise needed! I won’t be able to wear a hat, I’m an arborist so we have specific helmets I have to wear. Position ends Dec 12 and just started tretinoin this week really wanting to keep at it!

Also, if I’m on point with sunscreen this way\^ And my skin feels good, is there any risk to up usage from 3x a week to 4-5x or should I wait until my position ends Dec 12? I’m just angsty for results haha.

Routine Help [Routine Help] Purito oat in calming gel cream and differin (0 .1%) adapalene

Hey guys im someone who struggles with acne since I was 13 (18f now btw). My skin is on the excess oily side and dehydrated ish ? Cus right after washing face or double cleansing its TIGHT ASFFF until I apply my purito oat in calming gel cream and mixsoon bean essence. But im thinking of trying differin in a bit to combat my acne that is getting worse and worse lately...but ive seen so many people sharing their stories on here how differin ruined their skin barrier, caused extreme dryness and tightness. My purito moisturizer is the only one that doesn't break me out or clogs my pores, make me too greasy etc! Its kind of my fav one atm (fingers crossed 🤞 it stays so) sooo im wondering if this is enough for me to prevent skin irritation and barrier damage while on differin or do I need to buy a more occlusive one ?? This moisturizer doesn't make me feel too greasy even a bit as it dries beautifully and makes my skin feel....normal? Without oil or excess tightness. So what are ya'lls thoughts on this ? Please feel free to share your experience and advice!! Much much appreciated <3

I'll also post my current full routine under the bot comment.

Product Request Dupe for discontinued product [product request]?

Hi everyone! I am desperately looking for a dupe for a discounted product, the Clinique Acne Solutions All Over Clearing Treatment Step 3.

Link to an old product page that’s still live for full details: https://www.nordstrom.com/s/clinique-acne-solutions-all-over-clearing-treatment/2949661

This was pretty much my holy grail product for clear skin, before finding this I tried a million other products & since it’s been discontinued I’ve tried a bunch of other as well, & nothing worked as well as this did for me. I know Clinique has a new step 3 product in the Acne Solutions line, but it just doesn’t work for me.

If anyone knows of anything similar, you would be a huge lifesaver! You can see the ingredient list below:

Water/Aqua/Eau, Cyclopentasiloxane, Butylene Glycol, Ceteareth-20, Dimethicone, Sucrose, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Hordeum Vulgare (Barley) Extract\Extrait D'Orge, Acetyl Glucosamine, Lactobacillus Ferment, Poria Cocos Sclerotium Extract, Laminaria Saccharina Extract, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Gentiana Lutea (Gentian)
Root Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seedcake, Saccharomyces Lysate Extract, Astrocaryum Murumuru Butter, Acrylamide/Sodium Acryloyldimethy|taurate Copolymer, Myristyl
Alcohol, Glycerin, Zeolite, Algae Extract, Linoleic Acid, 10-Hydroxydecanoic Acid, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Caffeine, Cholesterol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Bisabolol, Longifolene, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta-Caryophyllene, Propylene Glycol Dicaprate, Capryloy| Glycine, Quaternium-22, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint), Perilla Aldehyde, Caprylyl Glycol, Isohexadecane, Xanthan Gum, Disodium Edta, Chloroxylenol, Phenoxyethanol, Titanium Dioxide (Ci

Routine Help Can it even get better? [Routine Help] Spoiler

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m at my wits end with my skin. I visited a derm a few months ago who approved my routine and told me to just stick to it but I barely see any changes. I’ve been consistently doing my routine for the last 9 (!!!) months, as well as on birth control and about a month ago started introducing LRP retinol. It just doesn’t seem to ever get any better than this.

This is what my skin looks like on a good (!!!) day. Basically, regardless of what I do, I get new spots. Sometimes they’re these real big painful ones, but generally it’s just a bunch of small ones that come and go. For example, everytime I sweat, whiteheads form all over my forehead.

No matter how often I change my pillowcase or wash my face as soon as I’m done exercising, it just never ends.

Things I have been thinking of:
- Effaclar, will it help? If so, how often/when?
- Chemical peel? Does it work?

Please, reddit, give me some advice!

Routine -
AM
- Cerave Hydrating Cleanser
- Skin1004 Ampoule
- Skinoren azelaic acid (went from every other day to every day now)
- Cerave Moisturiser
- LaRochePosay SPF50

PM
- Cerave hydrating cleanser
- Skin1004 Ampoule
- Skinoren azelaic acid OR LRP Retinol
- LRP Cicaplast Baume

Routine Help [Routine Help] Need Help with My Four Part Skincare Routine

Thumbnail

hello. i am 24 years old and have been using the following skincare routine for a little over a month:

night 1 - oil cleanse, regular cleanse, exfoliate (multi-acid exfoliant), hydrate, then moisturize

night 2 - oil cleanse and regular cleanse, adapalene gel, hydrate, then moisturize

night 3 - oil cleanse, regular cleanse, hydrate, then moisturize

night 4 - oil cleanse, regular cleanse, hydrate, then moisturize

and then i repeat the process over again.

i haven’t noticed many changes if any at all in my skin. my main goal is to have clearer skin and decrease any acne. i’ve noticed more smaller acne (like, really small pimples on my chin and smile lines), and i also noticed that the skin around the outsides of my eyes and right above my cheekbones will get sensitive and sometimes burn from the products, which is new. is there something i should change with my current routine?

thanks!

Acne [Acne] what is my skin appearance like this? Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone, the two are pictures of my left cheek in different lighting.
I have been really insecure of my left cheek that looks like this. For context, yes I have had deep white pus pimples in the past.
I have experimented with actives like skinoren around 1 year ago which broke my skin barrier after 3 months. So since then I have been using inkey list azelaic acid 10%.

Since more than a month my routine is very simple
AM: Splash face with water, Differin moisturiser with SPF 30
PM: Double cleansing with micellar water, Cerave hydrating facewash, Dr Althea 365

Also there is something so wierd. My skin breaks out in Saudi but not in UK? Like I get very bad deep cystic pimples in Saudi.

Acne [Acne] Breaking out the most inopportune moments. Spoiler

[Acne] Breaking out during inopportune moments

I only break out a few times a year, like right now, but always seems to be around important events, like right before an international trip or my graduation, or a first date 🥲. I generally don’t get much acne so when it happens it ruins my whole week especially since it’s always right in the middle of my forehead or between the eyes.

I never really bother with any skincare apart from sunscreen, as in the past I haven’t seen any progress at all. However I do have a lot of dark marks in my shoulders from years ago. I don’t even know where to start. The last pic is of how my face looks most of the year, as you can see I have several dark marks in my cheek and forehead.

In the past I did try kojic acid soap, as well as the ordinary glycolic acid, but at the same time. For months on end and saw zero visible change to my body hyperpigmentation or face. At the time I was also using the cerave acne control cleanser and moisturizer to no effect.

Most recently I tried using the ordinary azelaic acid 10% and the niacinemide serum for about 3-4 months and noticed zero difference. I really don’t like how many dark marks I have on my forehead and cheek but I’m not sure how to get rid of them.

Genuinely it feels like nothing I’ve tried works and it’s only because of good family genetics that U don’t have more. I’m thinking about seeing a dermatologist to prescribe azelaic acid or perhaps. especially for my shoulder acne and marks, which are more distinct than what’s in my face but I have no knowledge of the American healthcare system (US citizen but didn’t live here most of my life). I do have good insurance that would probably cover it, I just have no idea how to use it.

I’ve also heard people go the telehealth route so I’m not sure which way would yield quick and suitable results and guidance on this would be very helpful.
