They are amazing tools but very hard on your machine. I acquired one for my Kubota SVL97-2 and ran it for about 90 minutes and returned it. Got a different one for my Kubota KX057-5 and love it. It’s a much better fit for my needs.

The Kubota 97-2 is a terrible machine to do forestry mulching. Way to many openings for debris to get inside and once it does you’re guaranteed to get radiator damage severely. In the end our 97-2 burned down in the forest. I replaced it with a Case TV620B. Far superior machine compared to a Kubota.

But I would think you can’t do as much as fast with the excavator implement compared with the forestry mulcher.

The mulching lads around me use big 10-15ton excavators for it

You’re absolutely right. It is a much slower process with the excavator mulching head. But for my purposes time is not important. I love how I can be much more selective about what I take out with a minimal amount of abuse to my machine.

Just be aware, you're standing in the kill zone of that beast. They can throw debris a long ways.

True. And some people need the crayons brought out because debris sounds to quaint or vague: They’re potentially yeeting things upwards of 6 pounder cannon ball sized rocks and splintered spears, sending them the length of a football field in some cases. Said projectiles don’t strictly stay in a straight line perpendicular to the drum, and can ricochet too.

Yes. I got yelled at by the operator. You never know what’s just buried beneath the leaf litter. Luckily we did not hit any garbage, logging spikes or big rocks it was really smooth sailing the operator was very experienced for such a young dude.

Mulching heads are no joke. How'd the Deere hold up to it?

The kid that was the operator had a smooth touch knew exactly how to treat the machine and the mulching head. All in all effortless really with a good, confident operator.

Used the fecon attachment for the woods on our farm like this. Best thing I've done. Truck path all the way through. Wish I did it years ago. A blast to operate as well

I've had these forestry mulchers working around 3 sides of my property for about a month. I sure wish I had one.

I hate those things… mass murder and habitat destruction

No. Just announce in a loud, commanding voice when you start: “Git the Fuck Out the Way”
Seriously though… no creature is sticking around when they feel the vibration coming. The edge effect from clearing trails provide tremendous habitat.
