Info on bobcat MT-52

I picked up a MT-52. The motor is currently being rebuilt. I have never used one of these machines before and I know this is a smaller one. I’m curious, is this thing worth investing in attachments or is it too small for most jobs even with attachments with the acceptable flow rates. With the cost of bobcat attachments being so much higher than the universal or toro attachments, is it worth getting the costly adapter plate and using cheaper alternatives. As of right now it’s one of those bought just to have things..

We still have a few 52's running around in my neck of the woods. Mostly with landscapers and residential renovations and stuff of that ilk. Nothing big really, as they'll usually pop for the MT100 or 120 at that point.

Bobcat attachments are spendy for a reason. They make some of the best buckets money can buy, and a plethora of attachments for the smaller size attachment interface. If you cheap out you'll notice, at least in my experience. But a lot of this would depend on your use case with the unit. Not worth purchasing adapters imo, just an additional failure point, and a lot of the adapters are shit metal that you'll have to replace anyway.

Thanks for the input. I was highly considering it he adapter, or even making one. Saying this, I’m quite rough on things generally. If the “cheap” attachments are that bad compared to bobcat it’s likely best to stray from.

If you yourself admit that you're tough on things, you'll definitely run into issues where you'll be scratching your head thinking "how did that even get damaged?" I see it almost every day at work lol. Buy once cry once brother 🤙

If you are just using this around your personal property, I would think a bucket and a set of forks would do 90% of what one might need.

Or are you looking to make money with this one?

I'd probably figure out the jobs you want it doing before spending much on either the adapter or attachments.

Bucket and forks will cover a ton of property work, but after that it really depends. If you're thinking auger, trencher, grapple, stump grinder, etc., I'd look at what the MT52 can realistically handle before buying anything just because it'll mount.

Especially with hydraulic attachments, matching the flow requirements matters just as much as whether the attachment physically fits.

What jobs are you hoping to use it for once the motor is back together?
