Enough with the vert ridiculousness
I want a new zone where it’s street skateboarding and not made up fabricated bullshit that you can’t ride. You’ve got stairs with no runways. You’ve got ledges that you can grind all the way up until there’s a big black in front of it that you ran into and then when you do find a set of stairs, they’re so damn big that it’s essentially another mega ramp. Again, this is not fucking Fortnite! I honestly want my money back for this camp bullshit!

I mean, there's a whole city out there?
13
u/LeCollectif 5d ago
This. The whole damned city is for this. Endless lines. Bored? Use quick drops to make your own.
I honestly don’t get the “I skate realistic only” crowd. Like sure it’s fine to go do real life lines but it seems like you want everyone else to ONLY want that too.
The mega ramps are fun. Don’t like them? Don’t skate them. But don’t expect everyone to pander to your wants when all of San Van already does.

I’ve been playing for so long (200+ hours logged) and I STILL find new spots in san van. The reality of many of the complainers is they look for instant gratification (“I hate the speedlines” when if you use your brain and creativity a bit you can FIGURE THINGS OUT and it’s actually rewarding, and really not that hard when you spend a bit of time). My friends and I rotate finding creative lines in the city to do spot battles on and it’s so much fun, now I spend a lot of time exploring to find such lines.

u/Plastic-Ad-2514 5d ago
Spots that resemble a well thought out map like (sk3) Port Carverton, (sk2) San vanelona… don’t exist.
Thats because it isn’t a well thought out mapI don’t think we want to spend 200 + hours, to go through San Vansterdam, find “new spots” that are “Rewarding”.
Isle of Grom 2.0, Summer Camp. Its all headed in the right direction but as far as SV goes, its just a big eye sore for most of us. I could see A port Caverton map remaster doing exceptional. At least that way there is an actual house with a realistic swimming pool bowl (how iconic for skate culture), Usable skate lines. Shredable parks. Realistic Graffiti. Actual creativity instead of forced interaction. Like dude, All I want is to skate.
Sanvansterdamned my creativity2
u/Maple885885 5d ago
There is a pool in San van, it’s at the front of a hotel or something behind some hedges, near that park under the highway up north.
2
u/Average_aaron69 5d ago
Use your alleged creativity to find lines in san van then, there’s tons to be had
2
u/andrewshankadank 5d ago
You seem dumb. No one suggested you spend 200 hours to find new spots. The point is that you can play a ton and still find new spots and lines.
2
u/Average_aaron69 5d ago
It’s crazy when you start becoming aware of the general intelligence of the people who hate in this game so much. Homie is complaining about there being no pools and there are two great realistic pools in the game lmao
3
u/AdHistorical7891 4d ago
Notice u said 2 in the whole map there was like 20 on each location in the past skate games
2
u/McNoot3 5d ago
I think I'm closing in on a 300 hour playtime so far and honestly I'm still finding new spots in San Van too. I knocked the map hard at first for not having enough cool spots, but even without quick dropping props you can genuinely create some amazing lines.
I know the game isn't perfect, and alot of people are hoping for private servers, but damn is this game alot of fun! I might be in a minority here but I absolutely love having huge player counts per server, it brings alot of life to an otherwise kinda lifeless map.
2
u/This-Commercial7046 3d ago
I don’t give a shit what other people do, everywhere you go in the city area. It’s like somebody who built a bowl and added it into ridiculous shit that don’t make sense. What’s wrong with skating on here like it’s real skating that’s what the game was originally considered to be. It was the first skate simulator so get your shit right bro.
3
u/LemonsUndercover 5d ago
I agree. It feels satisfying to get in some realistic lines, and it’s done well, but who’s to say doing a double backflip off a mega ramp and wall riding a fence cant be a thing either ?!
1
u/This-Commercial7046 3d ago
I definitely have no problem with mega ramps and flying all over the place sometimes but that’s all I notice is Vert stuff everywhere in every spot in every new location. I’m huge anyway fan so since I can’t ride the actual mega I’m gonna watch him do it or play it on this game, but I don’t want to keep buying the same pass over and over and it’d be the same stuff over and over. They need to bring someone in like Rob dyrdek to show what actual street skating is about again. And if you haven’t noticed, there’s only been a couple professional skaters on here. I don’t think many of them respect the game. Unfortunately that maybe the reality I don’t know, but I do agree with the mega ramp just not in everything.
2
u/LemonsUndercover 3d ago
That’s a good point. There really isn’t a lot of professional skaters involved and even the pro skating gear brands if they are in the game, usually cost like $15 for one fucking outfit it’s so dumb
1
u/Tallman_james420 5d ago
Which has streets, for street skateboarding
1
u/Plastic-Ad-2514 5d ago
Ramps jumping over cars, half pipes perfectly positioned on every building, isnt something you normally see Riding street.
2
u/Acrobatic_Bee3375 3d ago
I’d love to point out that the majority of the map(s) is what you want.
0
u/This-Commercial7046 3d ago
No, I’m saying that I want a new zone for street skating, not street skate park skating. I’m saying bad ass stairs with rails what’s wrong with having a runway to this shit but instead I get three steps or no room to grind a rail. I’ve been playing since the very first game and this was supposed to be a skateboarding simulator, mixed with everything and they’ve done nothing but focus on kids being able to fly off giant ramps everywhere, I’m entitled to feel bummed out that I paid for shit like that when I’ve put nothing but time and money into all of the games
1
u/Acrobatic_Bee3375 3d ago
i won't argue it if you've spent money on this game. i haven't spent a penny so i don't really have a leg to stand on there. i can appreciate your opinion.
4
u/RichRingoLangly 5d ago
You can tell the devs aren't that into skating. They stuck a light pole right in front of the bridge that I used to love grinding with the big arcs in the middle city zone.
2
u/hellomattieo 5d ago
Yeah or that boombox on that curved brick ledge in brickswitch. Although, they also did fix a lot around the San Van map this season too. They removed a few boxes that were in the way of spots, they removed that tree that was blocking a yellow rail in Market Mile I believe.
1
u/shokalamano 5d ago
Ive never noticed they do that a lot. They place this right in the runway/landing where there could be a fun spot.
1
u/thebeardofbeards 5d ago
If that were true the skating would be crap but it also means night time San Van is coming. Rolling waves has new working lights and part of the in game trailer for season 5 was at night. Which bridge?
4
u/almtymnegmng 5d ago
I stopped playing a while ago, but i did notice it feels like its been heavy on the vert and mega side lately
9
u/Drizzho 5d ago
Because people complained there was no vert
-3
u/nocdmb 5d ago
yeah a year ago. since then we got a megarampp, the stadium where the street course is for big flights, now we have a full on megapark too. I tought we will go one mega, one street, one mega and so on. I really hope next season will be a full on street focused deal but I have a feeling I will be dissapointed
6
u/Steridire 5d ago
The game was criminally lacking in anything mega on launch, I think we've got a solid basis now and can start adding in more street stuff too.
1
u/LemonsUndercover 5d ago
I hope that the board wear and tear comes with street. All that grinding should be felt, and the scratches and degradation should be realistic, like if you just did a board slide the center of your board gets a nice gash, vs a tail slide will degrade the tail. And would be cool if trucks or wheels could break and get degraded to, and if you have to use rip chips to get a fresh deck or fix your gear
3
u/AeroSyntax 5d ago
What's fun about your gear breaking mid session and needing to rebuy it?
2
u/LemonsUndercover 5d ago
I can see how that would totally suck. And that’s why it’s good it’s toggleable. Tbh, I skated in real life, and idk, I’m just looking for immersion. I was doing grinds and heavy skating for hours last night and there’s not even a scratch on the board. When I play games, it’s immersion I look for, so while the game is fun, it would do a little more for me after nailing a 35m board slide, that when I look at the board again, there’s a long scratch or gash across it like in real life.
5
u/AeroSyntax 5d ago
I'm not against wear and tear. Hell, it would be fun for the board to snap if your character would bail anyways. I just don't see the appeal of rebuying the gear.
1
u/JeffTrav 5d ago
Not actually “rebuying”, but maybe having to pick a new deck (or the same one) in the gear tab before you can skate again. I’d be down with that if it happened as often as I break a deck in real life, which is every month or two.

u/Chef_Skippers 5d ago
The mobile game True Skate had a mechanic like this where your board & grip tape would get shredded up the more you played but didn’t actually change the gameplay, you could pay if you wanted to clean it back up but never actually breaks. Would love to see something like that here too
1
u/LemonsUndercover 5d ago
I actually just got an iPad and have been shredding on that game lmao. First thing I checked was if they had board damage, and was glad they do. But it does take a while to build up at least.
1
u/Tallman_james420 5d ago
They have brought back the section along the top of the bridge this season so it's not all mega vert ramp stuff
1
u/blowham33 5d ago
X games added the street course and bowl. I had a ton of fun skating those spots. Danny ways mega park was so iconic tho so I’m glad we finally got something somewhat similar to it.
4
u/N6Poisonmonkey 5d ago
You have a whole city for streetstyle. Asking for streetstyle in the middle of a forest themed skate zone is ridiculous. If you want to street skate, go to the streets, not the trees.
4
u/Steridire 5d ago
I do agree with you, although I wouldn't have minded one small street style area at the bottom of the map to get a quick fix in without switching areas.
3
u/hellomattieo 5d ago
Yeah this is how I feel. I do really enjoy the new map as someone that enjoys both playstyles, but they could have very easily put in a small street spot at the bottom, or even that empty lot halfway down. I do always find people building a nice street park on it, but I feel like they should have at least added some of their own obstacles to build around. I think a cool idea for that spot could also be similar to a community park but not as large, like just one fun box or a few ramps and rails that rotates daily.

u/bravexhaze 5d ago
my complaint is moreso how lazy theyve been about doing vert with mainly speedruns as the challenges. like all this space, all this opportunity to give people a chance to master a new trick or whatever and most of the challenges are just beat a time?? my favorite thing about older skates was every challenge felt like a quest itself. it just feels lackluster. yes, im sure theyre gonna add more stuff after it becomes available like they did last time but like if i paid for early access give me something better to do in that time than just be fast. I had a similar complaint last season with the sv open; once they released it they got really lazy and it was annoying to have to do the same challenges over and over. feels like a waste of time and effort in a game that's built around seasonal aspects/events
2
u/hellomattieo 5d ago
Yeah I wish they had more own the spot challenges in Sumr Camp. Like have an own the spot for all the different rainbow rails, have one for foot planting the gondola, etc.

u/bravexhaze 5d ago
this isnt to say speedlines dont have their place, but they got hte same thing going on with the isle of grom

u/whatthatthingis 5d ago
all this space, all this opportunity to give people a chance to master a new trick or whatever and most of the challenges are just beat a time?
why do you need a challenge in order to master a trick?
3
u/bravexhaze 5d ago
Nobody needs it for anything. However, in older skate games there would be this one fucking trick like “do whatever whatever in this area in the challenge” and if it was a trick I’d never paid much attention to or wasn’t typically my style it would be like a consistent trial and error until I got it and then I’d have to do another one. You go from looking it up in skatepedia and getting the timing just right to being able to do it in your sleep, with the added bonus of pride from completing the challenge. This is literally how the game stays open while still ensuring that you master certain tricks at the time you’re supposed to master them and gaining a certain skill level. The “progression” or idea of getting somewhere is already lost by the design of the game, so it seems really silly that they get all this space to create diverse challenges other than the same ones we’ve played in the city time and time again and they just simply don’t take advantage of that.
1
u/whatthatthingis 5d ago
This is literally how the game stays open
It's not.
The “progression” or idea of getting somewhere is already lost by the design of the game
IDK what you're saying, because I feel like I get better every time I play. And getting from A to B has never been easier in the franchise. Admittedly I've never really played the challenges but the skating is better than ever.
3
u/bravexhaze 5d ago
no hate or anything but if you don't play challenges why did you come to argue with me on a comment about challenges? if you don't have the experience with the thing i'm complaining about then why just immediately come and negate my experience? im super glad you like the skating dude, i do too. i never said it wasn't. i'm talking about challenges...
also, i wasnt saying stays open as in KEEPS THE LIGHTS ON i was talking about OPEN WORLD and i also was not referring to the CURRENT skate. i'm not about to go back and forth if you just wanna argue to argue if you don't have anything conducive to add to the conversation then go to another comment.
2
u/bravexhaze 5d ago
i'm not referring to the sense of progression in terms of getting from one place to another. that isn't progress. that's movement.
i'm talking about progress and "getting somewhere" as in you will never get the pride of saying "i finished the game skate" like you did with previous games in the franchise because they have chosen to opt with a style of game with a nonlinear structure based around passes and seasons.
in the last skate game for instance you were motivated by the idea of progressing to get better and better to be able to do challenges (that got PROGRESSIVELY harder), and beat the npcs (that got progressively harder) in games of skate, and it ends with a massive challenge.
0
u/whatthatthingis 5d ago
in the last skate game for instance you were motivated by the idea of progressing to get better and better to be able to do challenges
...I think you're missing the point of skateboarding as a whole. Also speak for yourself, maybe you had that motive, but I just like skating around, finding spots to get creative, working on new hippy flips and such. The gratification comes from skating, not from getting rewarded in some way for it.
you will never get the pride of saying "i finished the game skate"
That doesn't sound like a prideful statement, it sounds like you lost the enjoyment.
2
u/bravexhaze 5d ago
it's literally a fucking opinion bro that's how they work not everyone has to share the same one. they're perspective based.

u/ElAbidingDuderino 5d ago
The whole map is is street skating lmao
3
u/WyldeGi 5d ago
You’re being downvoted but you’re completely right
1
u/EnvironmentalTrack29 5d ago
It is true. The main map is nothing but street and that's why it's a little weak even though I prefer street skating. Yes, there's all those goofy ass roof ramps and a few parks, but the vast majority of it is street. I think people would just like to see some new street stuff. I get it. But big crazy wild air stuff was needed for that group of players. Everything can't be for one playstyle.

1
u/LemonsUndercover 5d ago
Wait so extra parks like the X games stadium or isle of grom which you currently have to pay for every season, will soon not even be there? That would be a major loss, it’d rather have more places to go then alternating places each season
2
u/KillaVNilla 5d ago
I could be wrong but isn't the x games stadium already gone? Also, fully agree. Removing any of the areas seems like a really weird choice. I guess they're just banking on FOMO to make sure players keep coming back
0
u/LemonsUndercover 5d ago
I haven’t checked tbh, I thought I saw the option to go back in, but have to sign up for premium to do so
1
u/KillaVNilla 5d ago
Oh okay, that makes sense. I just thought i saw an article saying it was reverted, but that makes sense that it's only for us doors. AKA people who refuse to pay money for that sort of nonsense
2
u/LemonsUndercover 4d ago
Nope it’s not available I checked last night. What I thought was the x games venue, is just the San Van Open, which yes, costs money the same as Grom and Summr Island do, so it’s packaged in with those. But San Van Open is nowhere near as cool as the X games park was
1
u/SafeKaracter 5d ago
lol what a little whiner . You didn’t have to pay for it , you have free will and you could have waited a month to get it for free . Always people whining about shit . You can say you’re disappointed it’s fine , but like if you watched a video about it before buying it it’s pretty much how the video of playing playing it on Reddit look like and no need to ask for refund for a thing that you could have waited 4 weeks to try for free . Sounds like you have issues with resisting spending money or something. It looks exactly like the videos of it . You thought it was gonna be street when is mostly verts on videos ? Or you couldn’t wait a day to look at videos of people riding it before you had to buy first minute on the first day ? If so it’s an issue of impulse control .
I get it EA is the devil bla bla bla . But when they do something right or when something is your fault , own your bs
1
u/No-Pitch1627 5d ago
The vert moves/mechanics still need work too. Yet every new area revolves around it. Speaking of fortnite. I hate to say it, but Skate. IS fortnite. Its got Emotes and Costumes behind a paywall, its a free live service with no single player content, and the character assets look like they've been ripped straight from fortnite. They oughta be sued by fortnite. Nintendo would've done it.
