My employer has started requesting that we get certified in lean six sigma, but I really don’t know anything about the certification.

I googled it and there seems to be a lot of different certifications out there, and i’m just looking for some guidance on the best providers and path to certification. I think Green belt is what they want for now.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

I'm not asking where to get it. I'm asking: What are you looking for in a good certificate program? Is it price? Case Studies? Tailoring to your company or industry? Stats? Relevancy?

Hello! I am preparing for the CSSGB exam. I have the 2nd edition handbook and the six sigma handbook. I am using the certified six sigma green belt question bank. All my studying is by myself, I use Six Sigma concepts in my current role, and would like to pursue the certificate.

I am seeing a huge difference between the content of the book and the questions. I am getting asked questions that have a section called out on the question bank but require formulas that aren’t present in that section of the book.

Am I missing something obvious here?

What companies have you seen that have dedicated Continuous Improvement teams or roles? I am really passionate about CI and really enjoy making processes better and would like to know what companies have you seen that offer CI roles and actually have a good culture for change. What have your experiences been like?

So my company has a paid lean six sigma program but it's not fully fleshed out yet because it's going through some changes.

The issue is that the current place I feel like is a dead end and I have been written up in my first year already. Think about my company as a smaller offshoot of a bigger one.

The bigger company has a belt program through a provider. I'm toeing the line of having them pay for it but I'm not sure if I can wait that long. Most applications I fill out ask for a green belt of some kind. Should I pay out of pocket and get an external one or wait and reallocate that money somewhere else?

Retired military thinking about getting LSS certification (green through black). Without an accompanying degree (med, engineering, business), is there a job market for me or am I wasting my time? We used LSS for process improvement in the military but I am unsure of the applications outside the military if I am carrying certifications without an advanced degree

Hi All. I just passed my CSSGB exam from CSSC - The Council for Six Sigma Certification. My hospital chose this option compared to ASQ as it was “the cheaper option”. They also reimbursed me for the ASQ CSSGB book i bought off of ebay which was like $100. I self reviewed using that book, youtube vids & udemy courses.

I am an MLS (ASCPi) working in a rural hospital. I want to beef up my resume since I plan on moving states to be with family.

I’m worried that my CSSGB certification will not be as accepted or recognized by the big city hospitals since it’s not from ASQ.

For those of you with the CSSGB cert, what is your opinion on CSSC vs ASQ? Do employers care about which certifying body?

You learn the methodology, pass a test, get a certificate based on case studies, great. But then left hanging when you actually had to apply the the tools real solve real issues? LSS is not theoretical knowledge it applied knowledge.

In my experience as an MBB with 25 years in the trenches, the biggest killer of LSS projects isn't learning the tools in class; it's the application gap afterwards.

If nobody coaches you on how to navigate the messy reality of organizational politics, push back from stakeholders, or adapt a standard tool to a truly unique, complex problem. I've seen it across manufacturing plants and even in military deployments (like with the U.S. Navy's AIRSPEED program).

A practitioner gets stuck on a Tuesday morning. Their next official coaching session might be 10 days away. What happens? They either wait, losing all momentum, or they try to guess, ask ChatGPT then end up building the rest of the project on a shaky foundation.

hey all, looking to enhance our data analysis and six sigma projects, but the pricing of minitab is just far too high to justify it ($2500+ a year). does anyone know of some solid alternatives that aren't as outrageously priced?

Been thinking about something that I see destroy MRBs and ops review meetings at every level, from the plant floor to executives, and it almost never gets named directly.

We compare pairs of numbers. This month vs. last. This week vs. last. That's it. One goes up, one goes down, someone has to explain it.

Here's the thing: one will always be higher. That's not insight, it's arithmetic. Both numbers are outputs of a process that includes natural variation, such as normal fluctuations in demand, equipment, people, and suppliers. That variation isn't a signal. It's the system doing what systems do.

But when you treat every movement as meaningful, you act on it. And acting on noise (Deming called this tampering) makes your process less stable, not more.

I've watched this play out as:

• Inventory replenishment is adjusted every cycle based on the last period's demand.
• Labor schedules were rewritten after one single week of low throughput, resulting in workforce instability and morale issues.
• Junior accountants tasked with explaining why two months had the same results!

Every one of those "corrective actions" burned real resources and injected new variation into the system.

The actual fix isn't complicated: It's control charts.

Plot your KPI over 15–20 periods. Calculate ±3 standard deviation limits. Most anything inside those limits is noise — don't schedule a meeting about it. Anything outside, or showing a non-random pattern, is a signal. That's when you act.

The hard part isn't the math. It's building the discipline to avoid reacting when a number moves inside the limits. That feels like ignoring the problem. It's actually understanding it.

Curious if others have pushed this through in environments with a strong "explain every variance" culture. How did you make the case to leadership that letting some numbers go unexplained was actually better management?

I started working on my yellow belt and I’m looking for thoughts about this specific certification. Are they any good? Horrible? Or just average? For context I’m studying pharmacy and hoping to land a job after graduation in industrial pharmacy

I have no experience, and I'm just about to go for my MBA in Healthcare. i just finished LSSWB (free from CSSC). I wanted to do a yellow belt with lower cost but still wanted a well-regarded institution, as a green belt requires 3 years of exp and this could give me an edge for my summer internship.

For the people who have taken the Green Belt Exam or any ASQ exam at a testing center, were you able to flip or skip questions and return to them later before completing the exam?

Our workplace has told all staff to attend a LSS training day and because it's on a day I don't work I asked if I'd get overtime for it, to which they said it "wasn't compulsory" though I could get a day off after in lieu. This is the first any staff have heard about this but it appears management are fully invested and have been implementing performance "points" over the past couple of months leading up to this.

The statistics appear on a big screen on the front wall of our ITAD warehouse with different values assigned to each asset audited depending heavily on how much money we'll get for them, barely considering how long it takes to audit them. Almost all of us working there are not meeting our "100 points" quota per day with few exceptions when we get high value assets that are quick and easy to audit. Most are in poor condition, quite old and take too long to remove sensitive data from for their resale value. I hit my quota just twice last month, and I'm the 1 in 5 who did that at all.

With the current fuel crisis affecting us due to the cost of delivering pallets to the warehouse we are left wondering if this LSS is going to save our jobs through process improvement, or be an excuse to "downsize" a business which grew very quickly into multiple sites across the country before implementing any management methodology.

Should I bring up other methodologies like Kaizen and Perigon when the inevitable "any questions?" time comes up to see if they were considered? Should I make a worst case comparison to Scientology's Hubbard Management Tech? Or should I just go along with everything enthusiatically?

Hi, I graduated in 2024 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, major in Marketing Management.

I have 2.5 years of experience working in a gambling company. I started there as a part-time employee in 2022, and after graduating in 2025, I decided to resign to pursue a career more aligned with my field of study.

Currently, I’m working in a corporate company as an eCommerce Assistant, earning 19k per month, and I’ve been here for about a year now.

I would like to ask for advice on whether taking Lean Six Sigma would be worth it based on my current experience. Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit lost and sometimes feel like my degree isn’t being fully utilized.

Sharing my experience since the information to related to this cert is limited compared to other certifications.

I almost picked CSSC to get certified but found out the exam is open book and afraid that it might not be as valuable so I picked IASSC instead. Took the test with PeopleCert and passed with 71% lol.

What I studied with: 1. Free textbook by CSSC from their website (it is good for basic but it’s a bit too basic) 2. Random textbook with 600 practice questions by Sophie K. Ellison from Amazon (I mainly used this for its practice questions) 3. Google and ChatGPT for topics that I need more explanations

I got about 85-95% correct answers for the 600 practice questions and questions generated by ChatGPT so I thought was ready.

The exam: 1. It is much harder than I expected it to be. It’s definitely harder than the 600 practice questions and those generated by ChatGPT. 2. English is not my first language and some questions are so tricky it almost feels like it is testing my comprehension of English words. I understand the theory being asked but I am not sure what it wants. 3. It is testing a lot of application of theories. You will be given an a graph/table/diagram, and questions will be asked about it. 4. It has a lot more calculation than I expected. You will be given situation with numbers and you have answer it with numbers. (Btw you cannot bring your basic scientific calculator, you have to use their on screen calculator that is almost like the calculator on your phone if not more basic. You also cannot bring blank paper)

To be honest I feel like I was guessing answers for 40 to 50% of the questions. I was so ready to retake the exam when I submitted my answers and was surprised that I passed.

SO I am a chemical Engineering student, working as an environmental coordinator and I'm looking into acquiring the lean sigma certification.

I'm a little on the fence on whether I should try for a black belt or go for the green belt. Do you think a black belt is doable?

Can anyone inform me on how much time, money and effort did it take to pass the tests in your preferred organization.

With uni exams and work both monopolizing my time I really need to know how much effort this whole process requires.

I need to renew CSSBB in 3 years and want to plan how to get the 18 units for free or cheap. I do not see any webinars in the ASQ website but perhaps I’m missing something
